00:00Hi everyone and welcome back to my YouTube channel. So in today's video I'm
00:02gonna be paying three artists on Fiverr to make a book cover for me. So back when
00:06I was in grad school for creative writing I took this class where we were
00:09writing all these essays and we were writing all these creative fiction
00:13pieces and our professor wanted us to put all that work together as if it was
00:18sort of like a book and we had to make a cover for it. So what I did was I
00:21went
00:22into Procreate and I'm not an artist I'm not an artist but I picked up a nice
00:27enough picture to work as a book cover and I had to do the back of it as if it
00:31was the back of a book and that that was that. It was it was um I believe I called
00:38it Distorted Bodies. I'll look for a picture for it but that that project stayed
00:44in my mind and then maybe a semester or so later I began working on my thesis
00:48project. Now my thesis project will end up being the book that I'm actually going to
00:53be publishing next year. So that book is coming out in 2026 it's called Disperate
00:57Bodies. But back when I was in grad school still working on it and I was thinking a
01:01lot about that project I had did a semester or two before where I had to
01:04make a book cover and I thought wouldn't it be fun to like have a cover of the
01:08book I was working on. And I finally had a name for the thesis project book which
01:11was going to be called Disperate Bodies and I happened to come across this one
01:14video by Jack Edwards where he was paying artists on Fiverr to make book covers for
01:19these made up books he thought of. And I thought oh cool and so there's one book
01:23cover I really liked a lot and so I looked up that particular artist on
01:26Fiverr and then I asked them to make a book cover for me. And the book covers
01:29they made for me were really cool. I don't think I can show them to you. I don't
01:34think I can show them to you probably until like maybe after my own book comes
01:38out. I don't think I'm I'm probably not gonna be using that cover but just in
01:42case I don't want to get in trouble. But I had this artist on Fiverr make this
01:46book cover for me. And that became such a great way of me feeling like my book
01:51could be a real thing. It gave me another burst of energy to push through
01:55writing all the work I did for that thesis project. I ended up writing like
01:5820,000 words in one semester for that project to add on to what I had already
02:03written so far. And it was it was a lot but I think that having that book cover
02:09and feeling like this book could really one day be a book because I can see a cover
02:14for it. I can see it now. I think that was really helpful. And so I am working on
02:19a book right now. And I I've been having some trouble. I've been having some trouble
02:24with it. One of the main things is that I don't know if it's like good. And I my
02:30many friends many people have told me don't put my cart before the horse or
02:34whatever. And just like do the draft at the moment is really hard for me to like
02:39work on this draft I have like, I think I have like 40,000 words of it. And it's
02:43probably going to be a shorter book. So I'm probably not that far off from the
02:48end. It's been a long time since I touched the draft. And I just I just I
02:53just have like so looked away from it for so long that I couldn't even try to get
02:59back into it now because I literally don't know what I said anymore. So I'd
03:02have to reread it from the beginning and the way in which I just I don't want to
03:06see those words. So I look at the words. What if they're bad? What if they're bad?
03:11I'm like, okay, so it sucks. And all the time I spend on it, I waste it. So I thought
03:17why don't I go on to Fiverr and have some people make some book covers for me
03:23and then maybe I won't feel so bad about it and I can like I can have something
03:28to look forward to to help me push through the doubt and negativity and
03:33help me visualize that yes this can be a bug. So that is what we're going to do
03:37today. So let's head over to Fiverr. Okay, so we are on Fiverr. So I went through
03:44the other day and I just looked up book covers and I just put a lot of ones in
03:51my favorites. So let's look through these. This is not a book cover. But you know, if
03:58you want to get your idea ready for a novel go to Abigail B. But these are the
04:01book covers that I looked at and I thought maybe maybe this could work. So
04:07let's just pick three. These are like when I first started looking at them. Yeah, I
04:13at this present time, at this present time, these higher prices, it's going to be a no.
04:22So we're going to look at these at these reasonable starting points. I think I won't
04:27go with this one because this is a fantasy and I'm not writing a fantasy. This
04:32these two, these three look very um nonfiction. This one might work. So let's
04:41open that one. This one looks a little easy mystery ish romance ish. Okay, so you
04:54know what? Let's open that one too. And since we opened a 30, we opened a 20. Let's
04:59pick one of the 15. So let's see. Oh, very, very, um, very nonfictiony. We'll open both
05:12and we'll just pick between one of these after we look through. Okay, so we have our
05:17$30 one. I will design book cover design book cover design book cover design Kindle
05:22cover by Jersey M. I kind of dig this one a lot. So let's see. Okay, basic package
05:29front cover design, 3d mockup, JPEG and PDF. We only need a front cover. Okay, we only
05:34need a front cover. So one design concept. No back and spine designs. It's fine. We're
05:40only looking for the front cover. Let's go to let's go to that. Let's continue. Let's
05:46see. Okay, so I'm just putting in my information for the book now that I've paid. So book title
05:55author. So I put in the book title and my author name. And then a little description of what
06:02the book is down below here where you can't see sorry. This is the current book title what
06:07we don't say to each other. It's probably gonna change. I don't know if I really like
06:10it keeps changing. I keep showing it, elongating it. Okay, I filled out everything. I'm going
06:17to go ahead and hit submit. Moving on. This is our $20 basic. So this comes with
06:23two design concepts, a source file and a 3d mockup. Okay, let's look at this a little bit
06:29more. Yeah. Mm hmm. Oh, I should have wrote in that other book that this that the book is
06:35like literary fiction. Oops. I'll make sure to do that, especially if they ask. So yeah,
06:42this is by King of Designer. Well, let's go ahead and pay. All right, let's put in our information
06:47title. Uh, my camera died at some point editing media here. So in the part where the video cuts
06:58off, that's where I tell you literally about what the book's about. And I tell you about all
07:03the cover examples that I gave the artist. So what the book is about. The book is a literary fiction
07:10book. And it is an epistolary novel about the strained relationship between mother and child,
07:16basically. And then I gave the artist some examples of book covers that I was thinking of. I wanted it
07:22to be more minimalistic. So I gave, I believe, five examples. So this one, this one, this one,
07:30this one, and this one, I think it died when I got to my last person, but I decided to
07:35go with
07:36Ali for our $15 tier. I've already put in my information and everything just so we can see what
07:43we got. I have Jersey M designing our $30 cover, which came out to $35.15. I have King of
07:51Designer
07:52designing our $20 cover, which came out to $24.60. And then I have Ali designing our $15 cover,
08:00which came out to $19.33. So I will see you guys back here in a few days when I
08:07have all
08:08three of the covers. And we'll look at them, decide which one we like the best. And hopefully
08:14it'll inspire me to finally finish this book. So see you in a few days. Okay, everyone, I just got
08:20the last email. So everything is back. All of the Fiverr artists have sent me their designs. So
08:29we're about to see together what they have sent us. Now I will say that it is Thanksgiving and you'll
08:36probably hear my family in the background. So just ignore that. Just, just ignore that. Okay.
08:40So let me go ahead and get to Fiverr. Let's see. Order. Okay.
08:50Oh, okay. This is very dramatic. This, this is very, it reminds me of like, um, a book cover
08:58from like 20 years ago. Like something that they would make a Hallmark movie out of. No? Does that,
09:07like, are you getting that same vibe? That's what it reminds me of. Let me go ahead and accept
09:13delivery. This is so, you know, this is interesting. It's very interesting. Um, how should I rate?
09:23Should I say like, I'll put very good because nobody's perfect. Uh, next. Very good. I'll say
09:31exceptional working. Um, very good. I don't need to write no reviews. I don't want to. Okay. Next we
09:40have, let's go to the $20 design. Okay. Here we are. Oh, interesting. This is also very like,
09:50oh, they gave me an alternate. This is, uh, this is a different genre. This is, this does not,
09:57this, this is not saying literary fiction to me. That's saying very much general fiction. Um,
10:05okay. I, I like this one a little better. They gave me like three options. I like this one. I,
10:11I don't know if I would go for that font. Not as cute, but like, I like this one. This
10:16one is good.
10:17This one, I don't know about that. But yeah, I do like this one. It's, it's also giving very,
10:23a much more old school vibe. Let me go to our last design. So our last design was the $30.
10:35Okay.
10:35And this is our last one. Okay. This is like the 20 and the $30 are doing very much along
10:43the same lines.
10:44Okay. What we don't say to each other. I, I don't know how a phone figured into this. Um,
10:56but sure. Okay. Just so we can remind ourselves, this is what our $15 looked like. And this was our
11:03$20 tier. So I, I honestly, I like this, this one the best, but I will say out of all
11:11the signs,
11:12this one might be the worst that is also in the, the $20 tiers. So we do, we do have
11:18that. Okay.
11:20And then this was our $30 tier. So we got a few designs for this. So on the first tier,
11:27we only had one design. Second tier, we had two designs. Um, and we have two designs for the $30
11:34as well. So we have this one and this one. And yeah, I'm, I'm going to say that my favorite
11:41is probably this version of the second of the $20 tier. So let me know which one you guys think
11:48is the best. Now during this whole little thing, while I was waiting for all these book covers,
11:53I did kind of get like the creativity bug and I tried to design some of my own covers. So
12:01if you
12:02would like to see the ones I designed, maybe that'll be in the next video.
12:08But, um, just, just a hint for the future, I will say that I kind of like my,
12:13my own designs a little better, but that's for a future video. But I really do. I kind of really
12:20dig this one. I would maybe change the font. Um, so it doesn't have that, like, I don't know.
12:28I don't know. Like, it's kind of very like 2000s religious cover vibe, right? Like, I do have a
12:36couple, uh, religion books. And it's kind of giving, it's kind of giving, you know, religion cover with
12:45that font. Um, I don't know. It's definitely giving like, you see the book and Walmart on those like
12:52little, those little rotating, the little, I can't even describe it, but it's like, it's like a book
12:59that I would see in Walmart in like the religious section or something. Editing Lydia here. So after
13:04looking at the $20 tier option a little bit more, I realized that it, it definitely used AI. Yeah.
13:13I was looking at the little picture and the words on the little piece of paper and you, you read
13:20it
13:20and you can tell it's just AI nonsense. And I was like, why do that? Like, why do that? There,
13:25I am
13:25sure there are so many free use pictures of just like paper with writing on it. Like you best believe
13:34I, I amended, I amended my review. Okay. That very good and exceptional. Definitely turned into
13:44fair and whatever the other option was or bad, bad, very bad, very bad. How dare you? How dare you?
13:52And I was like, when I started this video, I did have a feeling. I was like, with the prices
13:58being
13:58so cheap, something tells me AI might come into play and maybe I should look at the other two options
14:05a
14:05little bit more and give them scathing reviews as well. So yeah, just know in an upcoming video,
14:13I did make covers myself and I did not use AI and my covers look better. So that video will
14:20probably
14:20be coming maybe next week. That's all for editing Lydia. So that's really all from me. Tell me in
14:27the comments, which one you guys like the best and don't forget to like and subscribe and I'll see
14:31you on the next one. Bye.
