Russian President Vladimir Putin has responded to the recent drone incident in Romania, saying no one can confirm the origin of the aircraft until a full investigation is completed. Putin compared the situation to previous drone incidents reported in Finland, Poland, and the Baltic states, claiming the reactions were similar each time. The remarks come as tensions between Russia, NATO, and Ukraine continue to escalate across Eastern Europe, raising fresh concerns over regional security and border violations.

00:00someone told me just before I entered here a drone entered the Romanian airspace
00:05no I don't know what drone so please tell me what's the information in the
00:10media now a drone hit residential building in Romania and they say it's a
00:17Russian drone who says that it's a Russian drone many people many people
00:22means no one precisely who names Ursula von der Leyen well she didn't go to
00:33Romania she didn't investigate she didn't look at the remnants of the drone no one
00:39can say where a flying vehicle came from before they run a forensic analysis
00:49because some drones Ukrainian drones enter Finnish airspace Polish airspace the
00:55Baltic countries airspace Ukrainian drones do that and the first reaction was
01:00exactly the same like they have now in Romania Russians are hitting us they were
01:07saying and then they found out that these drones had nothing to do with Russia Russia
01:16had nothing to do with these drones they came from Ukraine a state visit we are
01:21happy with this visit because we well we drew a line because we discussed what was
01:31accomplished we have a record high trade turnover and we have good growth trends so
01:40we discussed the priorities in our cooperation in all the priority areas and we discussed
01:47all the areas of our cooperation and leading role here is with the humanitarian cooperation
02:01because maintaining good neighborly relations basically familiar relations between our states
02:08between our nationals is of utmost importance because it creates
02:16the long-term important level of trust between the two states
02:25Romania's president Nikis Ordan has made Moscow's position crystal clear he says Russia is fully
02:33responsible for the overnight drone crash no ambiguity no room for Moscow to maneuver
02:40full responsibility and then he went further Romania is now expelling the Russian consul from the
02:48southeastern city of Constanta the consulate is being shut down the Russian diplomat has been declared persona
02:56non grata that is a significant diplomatic escalation that is a country that has just
03:02been hit hitting back through every channel available to it short of a missile but it does not stop there
03:09Romania is now signaling it could invoke article 4 of the NATO charter for those who do not know what
03:17that means article 4 is the consultation clause it is what a NATO member triggers when it believes its
03:24territorial integrity or security is under threat it is the step before article 5 the step before collective
03:32defense kicks in Romania is saying we are close to that line and NATO heard it the alliance responded
03:41saying it is ready to defend every inch of Romanian territory against Russia not some of it every inch the
03:50United States echoed that almost word for word US ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker condemned what he called
03:58Russia's reckless incursion on Romanian territory he said Washington stands firmly with Romania and then he said the line that
04:07will be heard in Moscow tonight we will defend every inch of NATO territory now this is significant for
04:15one very specific reason this is the Trump administration saying it the same administration that has often been
04:23accused of being soft on Russia the same administration that took a different posture to Biden on Ukraine and yet
04:31here
04:31they are unambiguous standing with a NATO ally against a Russian drone that tells you how serious this incident
04:40is being treated at the highest levels now Russia of course has its own version Kremlin spokesperson Maria
04:48Zakharova says the entire episode is being hyped by Western nations to distract from what happened in
04:54Starobilsk last week where Russian officials claim Ukraine struck a student dormitory with drone attacks killing 21
05:02students Ukraine denies targeting civilians Putin himself has been briefed he is quote aware of the incident and
05:12the Russian foreign ministry says it will respond to Romania's decision to expel the consul so here is where we
05:19stand
05:20tonight a Russian drone has hit a NATO member state Romania is expelling Russia's consul NATO is invoking
05:28defensive language the US is backing every inch of the alliance and Moscow is framing all of it as a
05:35distraction two nuclear armed sides one incident and a charter clause that is one step away from
05:43collective war article four is on the table article five is right behind it and somewhere in Galati
05:50there's a building with a Russian drone shaped hole in it that just changed the temperature of this entire war
06:13that just changed the temperature of this entire war is right behind it and that just changed the temperature of
06:21this entire war is right
