00:42Spring has arrived, in British Columbia's interior.
00:49I hate the snow, I hate the cold weather, spring has sprung and the sunshine and I'm happy
00:56for that.
00:59Charging down the Coquihalla Highway, the newest addition, to Jamie Davis's fleet, Hercules,
01:12a railway wrecker with a 150-ton lift capacity, triple the power of a 50-ton rotator.
01:25As far as roadway wrecks are concerned, Hercules is about the most massive machine you can get
01:32on wheels.
01:34We're going to do this job today, another company called us out for this to give them
01:39a hand.
01:40Big truck coming down here.
01:42I'm very proud of this machine, and I'm looking forward to finding out what it can do.

01:58Just ahead of Jamie, in the 50-ton wrecker, HR 100.

02:09It's my second time using the 50-ton.
02:12I'm excited to be able to show Jamie what I've learned up to this point.

02:36Looking at it, it's a nasty wreck.

02:42The front's actually broken open.
02:44The customer wants it brought up intact.
02:47So we're going to attempt to do that.
02:50I have mixed feelings about this job.
02:53I think it's a 50-50 deal here.
02:56Having all the muscle you can have on this job, you can lift whatever you want to lift,
03:01but this thing will tear up or rip up.
03:05No, that's not good.
03:30What happened on the coast?
03:32It's a semi-rollover.
03:3330 kilometers south of Kamloops, Jamie's brought out his biggest iron for a heavy recovery.
03:50But it's not even his.
03:52The job belongs to 21-year-old Jasran and his company, Coca-Cola Towing.
04:03Jamie helped me out right when I was starting out.
04:07Since then, we've been pretty good friends.
04:09I've learned a lot from him.
04:11Ten tons, big winch.
04:12Well, that's all we need.
04:14I bought Mighty Moe from Jamie.
04:17But I'm running my 16-ton today just because Mighty Moe is in the shop.
04:23Jas and his brother, Armand Saran, have been running their tow business for two years with support from their dad
04:33to Jinder Paul.
04:35Jas is learning and figuring things out and he's got such a good personality.
04:40This is going to be a really tough job.
04:44Yeah.
04:48Early yesterday morning, the transport lost the road.
04:54Coming to a rest on a head-down angle with its roof lower than its wheels.
05:04This is going to be a iffy.
05:07We've got a head-down wreck here.
05:11This thing's 20 degrees below the level line.
05:17It makes everything a lot harder.
05:19And the cargo.
05:21It's loaded with red and the customer really wants it done fast.
05:24Has a time limit.
05:25If we start unloading this, we are going to be here for days.
05:30And I doubt the cargo will be able to be salvaged.
05:34This is bad because of the load, right?
05:36It's a load of bread.
05:37We have a limited time to save that load.
05:41But to recover it loaded.
05:43These trailers are very weak.
05:45Is impossible with wreckers alone.
05:48The load would go through the side of the trailer.
05:51The only way to do this is with airbags.
05:54So we'll just start with the airbags.
05:57Bringing in the specialized inflatables.

07:17Usually we're dealing with snow.
07:19But in the dirt, it's going to mean some brutally hard work.
07:24A lot more than we thought.
07:25It's holding up everything.
07:27While space is dug out for the first airbags.
07:31Let's get setting up so we're not wasting no time.

07:43And the wreckers get into position for the pole.
07:49We want to be able to get the recovery strap around the back end.
07:53And then look for other places where we can put some more bags under.

08:07Hercules will cradle the trailer with a strap.
08:11And tall on the middle with its deck winch.
08:15While HR 100 puts lines to the tractor and trailer.
08:21And Jazz's 16-ton takes the back end.

09:16As the airbags lift, the trailer is feeling the strain.

10:08Most of the time, we want to let the airbags just do the job.

10:16They actually are needing extra lift from the machinery.

10:22Because this thing is so head down.
10:25But despite the added lift.
10:27The more weight seems to be in here.

10:34I can feel the airbag struggling to lift it up.
10:37Is proving heavier than anyone expected.
10:40So it's not bread.
10:42It's those pita wraps.
10:45That would explain why it's so heavy.
10:48When we were told 20,000 pounds total,
10:51I think we're dealing with a lot more weight.
10:55A load of pita bread could be maximum weight.

17:50In Quennell, logging is our main industry.
17:54It keeps all the guys working.
17:56So they get us coming as quick as they can.

18:03Hey, here comes the tow-and-trick.

18:08Rob arrives to find the logging company crew with a picker truck.
18:16He was here pretty quick.
18:20Unloading the wreck.

18:23It's a self-loading logging truck with a grapple that can lift up the logs.
18:30And then he can take all the wood to its sawmill.
18:34I'm on my way.
18:40With its valuable load removed...
18:43Look and see how much damage there is.
18:48For what it did.
18:50And moving some trees.
18:52Doesn't look too bad, really.
18:56Losing a logging truck is hard because they can't replace the truck overnight.
19:02If I can get it out without hurting it, maybe they can fix it and get them back to work.
