00:05This time, on Highway Through Hell, a chain reaction...
00:10I can't believe the traffic.
00:12...puts Otto...
00:13Give it a shot!
00:14...to the test.
00:16Hey!
00:16Close, close!
00:18Woo, doggie!
00:20...quirings in the quagmire...
00:22We got James in there with his boots?
00:24...with an old friend...
00:25No, no, no!
00:26Hey!
00:26Boom!
00:29...and reliable...
00:30Oh, I love winter!
00:31...fighting the deep freeze.
00:37Holy crikey, that wind's cold out there.
00:41Flight's negative 17.
00:43Sub-zero temperatures...
00:46A little late in the air in there.
00:48...have hit B.C.'s Caribou region.
00:51Sure a lot of traffic.
00:52As the morning rush builds...
00:55...on Highway 97.
00:57Everybody coming to us, Tom.
01:03Two semis are blocking all lanes...
01:06...on the vital route to the north.
01:08Uh, it's not good.
01:11Both drivers...
01:12...remained unseen.
01:15So it's lots of...
01:16...I see up there, eh?
01:18Yeah, that's why it happened.
01:20Yeah.
01:21There's no way around them.
01:26Responding in a 50-ton auto record...
01:29...it's good all night long...
01:30...and then 6 o'clock in the morning, it freezes.
01:32...is owner-operator Rob Barber.
01:35The last couple days...
01:37...in our highways department...
01:39...they're going out and checking the roads...
01:40...and they're good...
01:41...and then 10 minutes later...
01:43...they just ice right over...
01:44...and become skating rinks.
01:45Sometimes weather nature...
01:47...will kind of trick everybody.
01:49Wreckers up there now.
01:51Arriving on scene...
01:52You can't believe the traffic.
01:54Rob is met...
01:55...by B.C. Highway Patrol Constable...
01:58...Lucas Dowsett.
02:00The highway isn't opening...
02:02...until...
02:02...until this is at least done.
02:05We're just trying to get the trucks out of the way...
02:06...to reopen the highway...
02:07...so we can get all these people...
02:09...going to work...
02:09...going to school...
02:10...whatever they need to do.
02:12The pressure is on...
02:13...to quickly clear the two wrecks...
02:16...holding up traffic.
02:18If we don't get it off the road...
02:20Stop!
02:21We can come around the corner...
02:22...you're gonna have another accident.
02:24The lights are closed.
02:25The lights are closed.
02:49The lights are closed.
02:52is close just north of quenelle yeah there's two trucks crossing all lanes an icy chain reaction
03:01i'm just trying to get the road opened up has rob rushing to reopen highway 97
03:08prayer is to get the one truck out of the ditch and get a lane open
03:11so that the highways can start to put their salt or gravel on the road
03:19traveling northbound a flat deck d-train lost control spun around and landed in the ditch
03:29hot on its heels a second semi trying to avoid the crash jackknifed before coming to a stop across
03:38the highway okay with the driver at the wheel rob winches the tractor out of the ditch
03:50i think that'll be okay now then drags it onto the road
03:55yeah i'm moving now with the 50 ton the quickest way this is just to pull forward
04:08with another wreck to clear
04:11sir is it drive along rob hopes the trucker can drive away on his own
04:18there's no real big damage done to the truck which will save time and saves me some work
04:25one rig on its way highways maintenance they're gonna sand it salt it and then the traffic roll
04:32and lay down some traction she's open we're rolling
04:40traffic's released there should be less chance of a secondary crash
04:44now rob can turn his attention to the wreck in the ditch well the front tires are hanging in the
04:51air
04:52and it's sitting on its fuel tanks but recovering the unit safely if we just drag it backwards that
05:00will guarantee you a ripoff will require a precision lift it's not good for the environment it's not good
05:06for us i don't have a rotator to lift it up in the air and relieve that pressure with hardly
05:14any damage
05:15i just don't want to hurt the truck yeah the rig should be able to drive away they can miss
05:22their
05:22trip and lose their day's pain so we don't want to hold them up any longer than necessary but to
05:29get
05:29the tool he needs how you doing hello how are you rob calls for backup you kind of got to
05:37think out of
05:37the box and use the equipment that's around you we could be here 45 minutes we're waiting
05:58what's the weather like down here 600 kilometers south
06:06in the fraser valley perfect weather for a hot tub
06:11and 80 000 pound excavator
06:18is mired in mud
06:2230 minutes out at the quiring yard okay let's roll a d9 dozer readies for action
06:31okay watch out heading out into the backwoods to do some old-fashioned fishing
06:37today al quiring is joined by the next generation turn it this way just a bit
06:46his son 31 year old carrie quiring working with family you can't put a price on that
06:54all right
06:59got it that'll do i'm glad i can hang out with him that's what i live for all right here
07:06we go
07:08copy that
07:11my family's business is on its fourth generation operating right now with my dad gone i've been doing
07:18my best to pass out on carrie's slowly working into it and taking over for today's job al is leaving
07:28the heavy wreckers at home i'm gonna steal mom's pickup and take one of the cats for a little joyride
07:38arriving outside a local farm all ready
07:46al rolls out in the 110 000 pound dozer i'm going through the bush but to reach the wreck
07:56i'm gonna be knocking trees down he needs to navigate the rugged terrain
08:07you wouldn't get a wreck here in there not even close
08:13we're just driving through the forest to potentially root up a sasquatch somewhere
08:21there's always a possibility right
08:26all righty 800 meters into the bush
08:32well this is a big machine al gets his first look at the sunken excavator it's a new machine
08:41it's mired down quite far down in the bog it's not very far from taking a gulp full of water
08:48through
08:48the air intake system and killing itself off this is the fun part but they also find
08:56james look a familiar face it's funny to see you in the mud puddle and not chained up on the
09:02side of
09:03the cocahola highway
09:07bam just like that after more than a decade in heavy recovery
09:14this road's not even that bad
09:16james luke sorry
09:20has moved on to other pursuits
09:22did i miss twine uh yeah i miss big wrecks
09:29today what's going on here why are we here
09:32james is helping a friend well one of the machines came across one part here and it sank
09:40i got a panic phone call saying that they were stuck better call al
09:46he's got some pretty big equipment he's just the right guy for this job is there any hope of
09:52getting to that toe lug there trying there's hooks on the lowest part of the machine that would be
09:59the best mud and water is very dangerous very very dangerous but it's quite far down in the bog
10:09and it's too dangerous to attempt to get in there there's no way we can get in there
10:17aye aye aye
10:21anybody give me an update on 97 single alternating traffic seven hours north outside of quennell
10:31we're waiting a b train teetering on its fuel tanks as rob needing a lift if i drag him backwards
10:40or try
10:40to pull him sideways we could rip a fuel tank arriving on site is a 12 ton knuckle boom crane
10:48truck
10:49that's straight ice today with operator alan frisbee rob just calls me if there's a lift out once in a
10:57while i'm called the careful rotator how are you doing okay when it comes down to a lift that's got
11:07to
11:07come out to the side or lift something out i am the guy that uh rob gives a holler to
11:11just that tank is
11:13right on the ground okay as long as i can get the pressure off that tank he has ability to
11:20pick the
11:21front of this truck up so that they're not going to drag on the ground the slick uneven terrain the
11:27ground is covered with snow is far from ideal i gotta make sure i don't slurp out from underneath when
11:34do the lift but it's a good angle for the lift we are working on a hill on a bit
11:40of a icy slope it's not
11:42flat whatsoever for stability i do not want it to start sliding he deploys the outriggers
11:55then extends the crane arm
12:00and rigs to the front and i'm hoping i can lift it that's a ways out for me yeah i'm
12:06gonna try a
12:06spot here rob hooks to the rear of the tractor so once he picks it up i will pull it
12:13backwards
12:16with a line from the 50 ton to the rear and a line from the knuckle boom to the front
12:22of the tractor
12:22they'll lift and pull the unit onto the road
12:30she's shut down traffic is stopped once again give it a shot as the knuckle boom
12:39takes on the 20 000 pound tractor i have to be cautious if something were to break
12:49there's a chance of ripping open the tank and then we have an environmental mess to deal with
13:01anyone hear anything about the 97s outside quenelle closed in both directions a b train's fuel tanks
13:16threaten to rupture i'm worried about breaking the fuel tanks but after closer inspection that's okay
13:24nothing leaking the fuel tanks are in the clear that's good i would call it a close call
13:33why did the road give out i slid off my block you went backwards the ground sank a little bit
13:40i slid
13:41back that's what i was worried about that was my fear is that there was not enough frost in the
13:47ground to hold me up i'm gonna come right up to here you're gonna come up to here yeah he's
13:54gonna
13:54reposition himself onto more solid ground sign this again i'm hoping that it's gonna go a little bit
14:10better in spite of a longer reach alan finds his footing hey rob start pulling just a little bit
14:23and with rob's 50 ton helping there we go the b train is coming out of the ditch it's pulling
14:33not too bad
14:35it's moving fairly gently
14:40with the final swing
14:44awesome the tractor is on solid ground he's on the road no damage
14:51the tank no marks no leaks so we did exactly what we had to do an undamaged truck
15:02lets the happy driver get back to work we're not going to do anything away so drive it away
15:10he can continue his day he's going to be fairly happy with the situation
15:14traffic started moving now
15:17awesome thank you driver but before rob can leave you heard about the other no
15:24apparently there's a new one there's word of another secondary accident
15:32caused when traffic was stopped if someone's not paying attention they come roaring up to a
15:39deadline of traffic and a secondary is definitely going to happen we're going to go do that just up
15:45the road i've never had this many after crashes it's kind of an unusual thing
15:59a massive hydrovac truck has rolled into the ditch
16:05a vac truck is just a really big vacuum they're all steel they're just big and nasty
16:12lots of bad things can happen pull on them big girls
16:20seven hours south
16:24in the fraser valley oh that might be the problem a sunken excavator
16:32there's no way we can get in there what can we do
16:36to get this thing hooked on as team quiring in a quagmire it's not safe
16:43being under the engine area something could settle and now you've got a worker trapped
16:51we're gonna rip that out of there over the years today's the day buddy al and team green
17:00go bigger go home have built a reputation winder up give us the throttle for tackling mud bog recoveries
17:13today with the tow hook out of reach we're gonna have to get up on top of the machine
17:20they'll draw on years of experience to create their own pull point
17:27we're gonna do it the old-fashioned way and just work a big-ass cable around the whole machine
17:34with the hook point hidden underwater they'll wrap a cable around the pivot point
17:41and with a line from al's d9 pull the excavator out of the mud
17:50the top corner back corner
17:54a little more you got it yeah
17:59you don't want that big heavy cable around the body work of that machine because it's just gonna
18:04crush it all to bits you gotta get that cable underneath the strongest part of that whole machine
18:09is between the track frame and the excavator chassis i should have brought my hip pointers
18:16just got to make sure that we got the belly wrap on the belly
18:20i won't have the same mechanical advantage as grabbing it lower on the chassis but i'll have a
18:27better hold of it so al we got james in there with his boots volunteers the newbie of the group
18:37in the four and a half feet of water there it's always the question who's gonna get wet
18:44swimming i go
18:49oh my god i am so cold i'm the little man i'm the one gonna get wet
18:59here's the cable but in the freezing water james finds the pivot point it's piled in the mud is
19:06blocked off it's unfortunate that the mud is oozed in around it just push down we'll see if we can
19:14get
19:14that house up and we're gonna wrap a cable around it al enlists the operator's help to push the chassis
19:23out of the mud different situations call for different plans come on even with the excavator
19:31arm is leveraged still stuck the machine refuses to budge but carrie get up to turn it has an idea
19:43good try it yeah rotating the chassis to break free of the mud surrounding the pivot point
19:52okay hopefully this works turning the bearing the rotak bearing keep going that's it
20:00we're doing it blind below the water line
20:05yeah it's got it's under now i'm soaking wet and freezing cold oh my god
20:12attaboy couldn't have done it without you but we're ready to go al's gonna get the job done
20:20okay here we go hooked to the 80 000 pound machine okay
20:30al gets ready for the pull when you engage that winch it's 140 000 pound capacity but even with the
20:39big d9's pulling power get him to run the tracks but tell him not to spin he'll need the operator's
20:47help
20:47okay that machine is buried in the mud good and that's gonna increase the resistance if you just
20:54winch it's never gonna break free okay are we ready yeah
21:08come on come on come on come on buddy he's not even going keep tracking back
21:15the track attracting gear let's go come on put it in here there's mud on the pedals the operator
21:26is just trying to stay all nice and dry the operator finally gets the tracks moving
21:34okay okay don't keep doing tracks but the excavator come on track no
21:46don't spin is sinking deeper in the mud the tracks need to turn a little bit
21:54not too fast because you're just digging yourself in deeper
21:58no no no no no no no no no no
22:09In the Fraser Valley, Team Green's Mudbog Excavator Rescue is spinning out of control.
22:23The track starts spinning.
22:25It's heavy, really heavy.
22:28Just sticking the back end down into the ground deeper, dragging his heels in.
22:33This way, wait, wait.
22:35For better traction...
22:37Okay, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
22:39Al heads for firmer ground.
22:42It's too slippery, so I'm gonna get up on top of some roots.
22:50Here we go, boys.
22:5150 feet into the bush.
22:55Al starts to winch again.
22:58Okay, go, float.
23:01Push with the stick, like the bucket.
23:04Hell yeah!
23:08It's moving!
23:10Ah, he's figured it out now. Here we go.
23:13With a nudge from the boom.
23:20Yeah, we're coming up.
23:22The excavator walks out of its would-be watery grave.
23:28There you go. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:31That was just enough to get it up.
23:35That's it.
23:36He's out.
23:38Once we got coordinated, it came out easy.
23:42The fella's gonna be able to go back to work tomorrow, which makes me happy.
23:46All right, fellas.
23:48All in all, it was a good day.
23:50They came, they pulled, they went, they did an awesome job.
23:54I would love to work with acquiring family again.
24:00As long as I don't have to be in chest-deep water again.
24:05Awesome.
24:06James, it's like chocolate and peanut butter.
24:10But he was in the mud, so I'm okay with that too.
24:13Sounds a little exciting.
24:16Any day I'm working with Kerry, this is like the best part of my whole life.
24:21Not too bad.
24:21Working with my dad on these jobs.
24:24It is very special.
24:26Yeah, we're gonna get out of here.
24:32Locking the big iron out of the bush.
24:34It's another successful mud bog battle.
24:38All right, let's burn some diesel.
24:39For the acquiring family.
24:42Let's roll.
24:43My family's been well known for handling these big jobs.
24:48And it's just one more thing that keeps us busy throughout the year.
24:53And that's all she wrote.
24:56Safe travels, driver.
25:01Look at the site.
25:04Outside Cornell on Highway 97.
25:07Yeah, it's gigantic.
25:09Another secondary wreck lies sideways in a ditch.
25:13He touched his brakes and laid over.
25:19Minutes earlier, a massive double wreck had traffic backing up over 350 meters.
25:27When an approaching back truck lost control.
25:30The driver avoided crashing into the back of the lined up traffic.
25:36By putting his truck in the ditch.
25:40First to the scene, a 35 ton heavy from another tow company.
25:46It did pick up.
25:47It moved a little bit.
25:48And operator Stuart Haver.
25:51Stu got here and attempted to pull it over.
25:54It didn't quite work.
25:56It's a hydro vac.
25:59A hydro vac truck is used for digging.
26:03Using heated, pressurized water.
26:05While vacuuming the slurry back into its tanks.
26:11Fully loaded.
26:13It is heavy.
26:14Uncomfortably heavy.
26:16The truck weighs 60,000 pounds.
26:19The vac truck probably outweighs both of us.
26:22With Stu's 35 ton outgunned.
26:26Going out then?
26:27Yeah.
26:28Rob adds his 50 ton into the mix.
26:31Feels good to help out another business.
26:34With two of us, it should be okay.
26:35But today's recovery.
26:37I've actually never stood one up.
26:39Will be a first for Rob.
26:41So, I'm kind of unconfident right now.
26:45Okay, you pull it off a little bit.
26:47For the best angle of pull.
26:50We'll jump out.
26:51Rob must block the highway.
26:54For the third time today.
26:58You know what?
26:59Another secondary.
27:01So, we'll try to get traffic going as quick as we can.
27:04But I don't know if I got enough to even move it.
27:07With the 35 ton at the front.
27:11We'll give it a tug.
27:12See what happens.
27:14Rob's 50 ton will do the heavy lifting at the rear.
27:19Let's hope it moves.
27:21The center of gravity is really high on a vac truck.
27:24Once it comes out of the ditch, it can roll down into me.
27:28Keep pulling.
27:31I'm gonna run out way too fast.
27:32I'm gonna run out.
27:36Oh, oh.
27:39You want 97?
27:43Oh yeah, I killed this again.
27:46North of Quenelle.
27:48Yeah, keep pulling.
27:49A 60,000 pound rollover.
27:52As Rob coordinating with the competition.
27:57You kind of always want to be able to holler back and forth.
28:01Whoa, whoa.
28:03To get someone to stop or speed up.
28:06Okay.
28:07So you kind of work on the same page.
28:12Oh, I come over really gentle.
28:14To see so much weight safely roll over.
28:18It's impressive.
28:19But before they can open the highway.
28:23Do you want to hold it upright and I pull it forward?
28:26They'll need to swap positions.
28:28Yeah, you'll definitely anchor better.
28:30I can hold it.
28:31To pull the wreck onto the road.
28:34It's still leaning quite heavily in the ditch.
28:37My truck is a little bit heavier.
28:38We'll put it out front.
28:41If you want to run lying down and pull it this way.
28:43I can drag your ass over.
28:44Yep, yep, yep.
28:46I'm gonna get Stu to grab onto the back tires and drag it sideways as I pull it forward.
28:52Give it a little tug.
28:55So it lands on the road.
28:58A little bit more.
28:59Only 45 minutes since Rob's arrival.
29:03Way less grunting than I thought was gonna happen.
29:07And the massive back truck.
29:09Yeah, it's all done.
29:10Is back on its wheels.
29:13Wrecks on the road.
29:15Yeah, it's a good feeling.
29:17Went really well.
29:17They're starting to move now.
29:21I'm amazed it opened this fast.
29:25Traffic's released.
29:26We didn't get another secondary accident.
29:29Can we do the pleasure of my brand?
29:30Yep.
29:31There is competition.
29:32But it's nice to work together.
29:36Now Stu's gonna tow it away and I can just go home.
29:40After clearing three connected wrecks, Highway 97 is finally open.
29:47I have never had a day with that many crashes.
29:50But nobody got hurt.
29:52It was a successful day.
29:54Get the shiny side up, guys.
29:58See you guys, thank you.
30:13That's cold out there.
30:14The next day, 570 kilometers south.
30:19Ah, it's brutal.
30:21On mountainous Highway 3.
30:25He's gonna get real busy real soon.
30:29Early morning freight runs are picking up.
30:32Keeping the economy going by keeping the freight rolling.
30:38There's a lot of responsibility.
30:41Heading to a call.
30:42A reliable towing 50 ton heavy.
30:45Two coals.
30:47With lead operator Andy Cullum.
30:50Currently it says it's minus 30 right where we are.
30:54For BC that's extremely cold because it's very humid.
30:58So the trucks tend to freeze up.
31:01When the weather hits on this section of highway,
31:04we can take some drivers by surprise.
31:07Close behind in a 35 ton.
31:10All righty.
31:12Is heavy operator John Dodds.
31:15Starting to become morning rush.
31:17So we want to be in and out of there as fast as we can.
31:20We'll see what happens.
31:22Just below the peak of Sunday Summit.
31:27Is that a Jack Knight trailer?
31:30That was a wild ride.
31:33Arriving on scene.
31:35You all right?
31:36Andy, make sure the driver.
31:38Yeah, I'm okay.
31:39Is unharmed.
31:41It was scary.
31:42As soon as I took the curb, I started sliding and I lost completely control.
31:47Despite the wild ride.
31:49Might be able to drive it down the hill and we're done.
31:52The semi remains in good condition.
31:56This guy got so lucky.
31:59He didn't even put a scratch in the truck or the trailer.
32:03It's cold!
32:04To swing the cab out of the snow bank.
32:07Where am I hooking this?
32:09Swamper Kyle Crofts.
32:11Back up here.
32:13Hit.
32:14Hooks John's 35 ton to the rear of the tractor.
32:19Done.
32:20We're gonna spin it back out of the ditch the same way it went in and have it come back
32:25out as a pretzel.
32:26Andy readies his 50 ton to anchor the back of the trailer.
32:32What the hell's going on?
32:33But the winch line refuses to budge.
32:39It's frozen.
32:40Are you kidding me?
32:42The winch is frozen.
32:45Not ideal.
32:48The coal is taking its toll on the equipment.
32:52Let's see what we got here.
32:54But Andy came prepared.
32:58I carry a torch because success is the only option so we make things work.
33:06Try again.
33:11Okay, stop.
33:14We're good.
33:14Feels great.
33:15Get the winch working.
33:16Now let's put it to use.
33:18Okay.
33:20As they finally hook Andy's line.
33:25Hey, just watch yourself.
33:27The morning rush is inches away.
33:32Just about killed me.
33:33We gotta hurry up and get this done.
33:36See that?
33:37It's not a safe area to be in.
33:39Are we ready yet?
33:41Let's go!
33:43Let's go!
33:44Let's go!
33:45Let's go!
33:52It's a fully loaded trailer.
33:55So, we got some weight behind it.
33:58It's gonna bite.
34:01She's slippery.
34:03Oh, I love winter.
34:07What are these guys doing on the hill here?
34:10There's a recovery.
34:11On Highway 3.
34:15Ah!
34:17Andy's 50 ton is losing a tug of war.
34:21With a fully loaded semi.
34:25Road conditions are super icy.
34:27And all we're doing is dragging Thor down the hill towards the wreck here.
34:32So John booms up on the other end.
34:36There we go!
34:38For more lift.
34:39We got it out.
34:41Now we've gotta get at the front end of it.
34:44Yeah, we're gonna move my rimsling up to the front.
34:47And get the tractor straightened out.
34:49Yeah.
34:50There you go.
34:52Try to keep your wheel turned to the left.
34:54We're gonna get the driver working with us.
34:57With the 50 ton anchoring the trailer.
35:01Yeah.
35:02And the 35 ton pulling the tractor around.
35:06Alrighty.
35:07We're in action.
35:10Team reliable.
35:12Yee-haw!
35:15Straightens out the jackknife.
35:18Yee-haw!
35:20Yeah, we got her.
35:22Working with Andy.
35:23It's always fun.
35:25Okay, pull ahead.
35:27Carefully, slowly.
35:29We like to make sure the drivers are taken care of.
35:32Get everybody on their way.
35:34It's safe and sound.
35:36With no damage to his truck,
35:38the driver continues on with his delivery.
35:42And freight traffic on Highway 3
35:45is back to full strength.
35:49That's it.
35:50Job done.
35:53We're home and going to bed.
35:56We have people that we can count on
35:57when the chips are down,
35:58so we're gonna meet any of the challenges
36:00that come this winter.
36:02Thanks, guys, for doing that.
36:05Ten-four minutes to go.
36:12One hundred kilometers west,
36:15at the Jamie Davis yard in Hope.
36:18I'm checking everything.
36:20His newest hire from the East Coast.
36:23Oh, dear.
36:25Maxim Chamberlain Norman prepares for his first solo mission.
36:32I'm going to the Coca-Cola and helping people.
36:38Hey, Max.
36:39You ready to do patrols up on the hill?
36:41Yeah, I'm ready.
36:42We have to be a little more aggressive and get business
36:44because everything's happening up the hill.
36:46On the coke nowadays,
36:48you're gonna fight for that job.
36:50You know, it's just not coming to you like it used to.
36:52Hopefully, catch a fish.
36:54Yeah.
36:54Okay.
36:56I think he's ready to go out on his own.
37:01We'll give him a shot.
37:04Up the hill,
37:05Maxim arrives at the summit on the hunt.
37:10I try my best to find something.
37:13But the competition is already one wreck ahead.
37:19It's a pressure on you
37:20because you need to bring money to the company, right?
37:2630 minutes into his patrol,
37:28a stopped four-wheeler catches his attention.
37:35I can see that he's looking for help.
37:40Hello.
37:41Do you need a tow?
37:42A closer look.
37:44Oh, there's a flat right there.
37:46Reveals a tire in less than pristine condition.
37:51I don't like that.
37:53Holy.
37:54You never know how the flat's gonna end up.
37:57Do you have a spare tire?
37:59No, we have no spare tire.
38:01Yeah.
38:02With no spare,
38:04Maxim hooks his first job.
38:08I was pretty happy that I found something.
38:12It's chilly out here.
38:13You look like you're freezing.
38:14He offers shelter.
38:16I don't want you to freeze.
38:18To the driver and his girlfriend.
38:21They've been waiting, so you need to do what you can to help.
38:25The customers...
38:26We have a schedule, so...
38:29...have a deadline to meet their tour group in Banff.
38:33Let's do it.
38:34So Maxim gets to work.
38:38The customer always a priority.
38:41This is my first ever tow.
38:46And I try to remember how to do it from what Jamie told me.
38:52So I'm gonna get you into this little tow truck here.
38:55A week ago...
38:57What the?
38:58Jamie gave Maxim his first lessons...
39:02The mixture is straight.
39:04To pull off the dolly tow.
39:07Okay, so realize the pressure that's in here.
39:13Today...
39:15Here we go.
39:16Maxim puts his new skills to the test.
39:19I'm gonna put the dolly in the back.
39:21On his own.
39:23I hope I get it right.
39:25When it's your first time, it's more stressful.
39:29I don't want to mess up.
39:31Under watchful eyes, Maxim gets the first side.
39:36Here.
39:38Locked in.
39:39But on the flat tire side.
39:44Hi, Max. Is it okay?
39:46It don't go in there.
39:47Things aren't going as planned.
39:50Ah.
39:51I can't put it on the wheel.
39:53No, I think I can't...
39:56I can't tow a car with a flat.
39:58I don't know what to do.
40:00I feel a little pressure.
40:05There's a broken-down car down the right-hand side of the road.
40:09On the Coquihalla Highway.
40:13Come on, you.
40:14A flat tire tow.
40:17I can't push it.
40:19Has Jamie's newest operator struggling.
40:23Just because it's a flat, it's different.
40:27You've got a lot going on on your first job.
40:30The equipment, being on the highway.
40:33You have to think about the customer.
40:36I'll find a way.
40:37He's got to roll with it as it goes.
40:40There's a way.
40:40For Jamie, I need to show that I can do it.
40:45With the customer on a deadline.
40:48I think I'm going to need to tow it from the back.
40:54Maxim shifts gears.
40:56If it don't work, you need to find another way to do it.
41:04Repositioning, he takes the tow from the other side.
41:10I have high hopes for Max.
41:13He's probably going through some nervousness and self-doubt.
41:19But he just has to work his way through the problems.
41:23Well, if it works.
41:25And he'll get the hang of it pretty quick.
41:31Hopefully it worked this time.
41:37There we go.
41:40Maxim's quick thinking to switch sides
41:45has made the difference.
41:48Poof.
41:50That's it.
41:51I'm happy.
41:53That's all.
41:55The job is all done.
41:56Sorry to make you wait.
41:58Well, I think you're professional.
42:00Well, I try to.
42:03It's helping people.
42:07And make my day.
42:09Let's go.
42:10Yeah.
42:12Maxim's first solo job.
42:16Kirk towing somebody else.
42:20He's towed away with a win.
42:23Max has done his first job successfully.
42:26I think he's happy with himself.
42:28I'm happy with him.
42:30Good job.
42:31Being able to prove yourself is a big deal.
42:34Not many kids have that ambition.
42:36And he does.
42:39And I think Max will go a long ways here.
42:44Good time.
42:45Good time.
42:46Try it on.
42:49Next time, on highway through hell.
42:52You got one shot.
42:54Reliables balancing act.
42:56How close are we to that truck?
42:58Oh, he come back.
43:00Comes down two inches.
43:02Oh.
43:03Flight just barely do it.
43:05Big green.
43:07Is maxed out.
43:08That doesn't sound good.
43:10That excavator is in there.
43:12And aggressive.
43:14Gets down and dirty.
43:16Okay.
43:17Launch yourself, boys.
43:47We on the IZ, in the U.
43:48Do not go more.
43:48Oh, humans.
43:49Off camera!
43:49We pros of the rest.
43:49That's everything I have to do.
43:49That's what we're doing and fun.
