Although a cooler breeze is coming to the Southwest in the latter half of this week, it is also accompanied by very dry air that will increase the risk of wildfires for the interior of the region.
Transcript
00:00A dry gusty breeze is going to fan the flames of any fires that might break out across the interior
00:06southwest through Thursday. Fire danger moderate in this area. It's not a Santa Ana wind event. This is interior parts
00:12of Southern California and especially across Utah, Arizona and much of Nevada. This is going to be driven by a
00:19very active wind in the afternoon. Not that far removed from an area that's actually picking up some rain and
00:25some very high elevation snow in the Sierra.
00:27But you'll notice on the map there's not much precipitation. Very dry air in Arizona, Utah and across most of
00:35eastern and southern Nevada. And that's the area where we're most concerned about this dry gusty breeze that will be
00:40gusting over 30 miles per hour. And coupled with that dry air that appears almost black or dark brown with
00:47the dew point map. Very dry air in areas around Arizona moving up into parts of Utah and western Colorado.
00:53That's the area of greatest concern.
00:55So temperatures are actually down a bit, but the wind is strong and that dew point is low. Very dry
01:01air. Fire danger continues.
