01:31C'est parti !
01:34Naomi, congrats on both the win and the look.
01:38I wonder, is it strange or difficult or challenging maybe to come out and make that statement and then kind
01:45of have to switch on, you know, for warm-ups and then get into this match mode.
01:49I just wonder what that process is like for you.
01:53Um, ironically, I think I'm a little used to it now.
01:56I think Australia, well, honestly, if I have to think about it, like my bow dress with the yoon, the
02:04yoon ambush dress kind of first started it all off.
02:06Um, but the U.S. Open, like the roses in my hair, I think that's when I started to like
02:13really get into it a lot more.
02:15And then obviously with Australia, it's like, that was a real conversation starter.
02:22So for me, I don't really feel like it's too much of a big deal to do that and then
02:27play after.
02:28I could see where people would think I feel a little stressed or whatever, but I think that's kind of
02:35the thing about it.
02:36Like, sometimes people say athletes are like in show business or entertainers or whatever.
02:43And I feel like for me, like Grand Slam walk-ons are the only time that I possibly feel like
02:48I'm an entertainer.
02:52Hi, Naomi. I also have a question about your hair. Sorry.
02:55Um, when you're on the road, how do you find people who can braid your hair and do your hair
03:00in the styles that you want?
03:01It's kind of hard enough at home and I can't really imagine, uh, trying to navigate it in many different
03:06countries throughout the year.
03:08Um, honestly, I just talk to other people.
03:12Um, like sometimes, well, Taylor recommended my nail person.
03:16So I feel like it's like having conversations with other people.
03:20And then, um, my hair, the person that does my hair also knows a lot of people in different countries
03:27too.
03:27So that's definitely very helpful.
03:30Okay, good.
03:30Um, yes, congrats on this outfit today.
03:34I'm curious, actually, you talked in your previous press about, uh, sort of remembering the moments that Venus and Serena
03:39had with their reveal.
03:41So I was curious on a somewhat tangential level, what your sort of interest level has been over the speculation
03:47around Serena coming back, uh, this year.
03:50And what, if that's something you're paying attention to, something you're possibly excited about, which is obviously I know you
03:55were following her your whole life.
03:57Um, yeah, I mean, for me, that's definitely something I would be really excited about, just to see her, um,
04:05around the sites and, like, playing matches again.
04:07I think is really cool for tennis.
04:10Um, and yeah, I would be excited to see her outfits again, too.
04:14But also her playing.
04:16I think she's one of the best players in the world, of course.
04:22Hi, Naomi.
04:23Uh, congratulations.
04:24I'm digging into the movement of sliding.
04:27Um, I believe you asked Novak, perhaps, a couple of years ago of, like, how he did it.
04:31Um, can you expand a bit on that conversation, and what are the ingredients that make an excellent slider?
04:39Um, I mean, when I asked Novak, I asked him about how he slides on grass, not necessarily clay.
04:46Um, and he just told me, like, to not feel any fear and to keep going for it, even if
04:52you fall.
04:53Eh.
04:54I guess.
04:56I don't know.
04:57I fell a couple of times.
04:58I said, oh, that might not be for me, but, um, yeah, I mean, obviously, when, like, the best player
05:05in the world gives you advice, you want to, like, you know, listen to it for sure.
05:09And I think I'm a pretty decent slider on hard court, um, on my forehand side.
05:16I think on clay, I'm decent, too.
05:19I'm trying to learn how to slide a little bit more on my backhand, like Ika.
05:22I know she does that a lot, but, yeah, I'm interested to hear what the other players tell you.
05:35I just talked to your friend, uh, Taylor Townsend, and she really wanted to talk about, um, the healing experience,
05:42um, of your, uh, dinner party the other night and what it meant to her and, um, to all of
05:48you to, uh, be a part of that.
05:50Um, so I was wondering if you could maybe talk a little bit more about how much that meant to
05:54you.
05:55Yeah, I mean, um, for me, it meant a lot.
05:58Um, obviously, also, like, to see Mofis there.
06:02He's, like, one of my heroes, and this is his last Roland Garros.
06:06So just to see him come and kind of celebrate him in a way, um, it was definitely really cool,
06:13and I don't know.
06:15I think just being on the road, you kind of build small families.
06:19And I felt like everyone in that room was a part of my family.
06:23Okay, just down with you, and then Molly, and then Courtney, and then we're down.
06:26Yeah.
06:27Good evening.
06:27And just, uh, would like to have your opinion.
06:30Maybe one day here in Paris, you will play in five sets.
06:33Uh, do you think it's a good or bad idea?
06:36Who, me?
06:38Yeah, okay.
06:39Um, um, you know, I'm neutral on it.
06:46Like, I, I think, ironically, it would be good for me, because I'm pretty, like, stable the longer the matches
06:53get.
06:54But I would be pretty interested to see, like, if people sustain injuries and, like, the logistics of all of
07:01that.
07:02Like, I understand it's a pretty, um, entertaining topic, talking point.
07:06But I kind of want to see what happens if people dive deeper into that.
07:10Okay, Molly, and then last one for you, as well.
07:13Hi.
07:13Hi.
07:14Uh, good job today.
07:15Um, obviously, a first round is always tricky at a slam.
07:18Uh, your opponent today, she comes with her own kind of challenges, I guess.
07:22I wonder if you can talk through a little bit about, yeah, overcoming those challenges and, um, getting through the
07:27first round as well.
07:28And what, what you find maybe more challenging about first round.
07:32Um, I mean, I think the first rounds are always really tricky.
07:36Because everyone feels the same amount of nerves.
07:39Maybe some people more than others.
07:41But we're both just trying to get through.
07:43And, um, I feel like today, obviously, my opponent was definitely really tricky with all her drop shots and things
07:51like that.
07:51And she kind of gave me no rhythm at a certain point.
07:55But, you know, I feel like I prepared for that.
07:58Like, everyone on tour knows that about her.
08:00So, yeah, um, it wasn't like I was stepping into a new experience or anything.
08:08Naomi, in your time practicing getting ready for this tournament, like, how much are you and Thomas, like, focusing on,
08:15for example, patterns?
08:17Like, just locking in patterns during first dress or just, like, that you can go to versus, like, shot quality.
08:23And how has that balance between those two things kind of, I don't know, changed, like, over the course of
08:30your career?
08:30Like, when you would focus on one more than the other?
08:33Or, yeah, if you could just talk about that.
08:36Yeah, um, so, honestly, with Thomas, he doesn't try to overload me too much.
08:42Um, and I feel like that comes with him trusting me, too, and my decision making.
08:46Because he knows I'm a little bit instinctual at times.
08:50But I do feel like with him, we talk about the quality of the ball.
08:55Like, because my ball pace is pretty high, I would say, in terms of all the players out there.
09:01So, we just, well, he tries to, like, tell me to, like, you know, keep up the same speed.
09:08Because sometimes I dip when I overthink.
09:11But during practices, he is quite, well, it depends on the opponent.
09:17Like, usually the day before, sometimes he'll give me a lot of patterns to practice.
09:22But it really just depends.
09:25All right, we'll put you to national language now.
09:44Yeah, I mean, I think if I were to go back in the match and try to understand what I
09:50did well, I...
09:56I know I got angry at a certain point, but I would say keeping a level head at the very
10:02important moments,
10:03like the tiebreakers, or even when she broke me, or when I had a couple points to break her
10:10and I wasn't able to convert.
10:12So, keeping a level head at certain moments of time.
10:29Yeah, I thought it was pretty interesting how hot it was because I never use an ice towel
10:35or I try not to use an ice towel, and I had to use one today.
10:39And coming off the court, I was telling everyone, I think I got burned,
10:43and I thought Australian Open was the only tournament or the only Grand Slam that you would get burned at.
10:49But, yeah, I mean, for me, I felt like it was good conditions.
10:53Like, I love the heat, and I'm very used to it.
10:57So, I didn't have any complaints.
11:17I just think it's kind of funny, like, ironically, I say ironically a lot today, but, um...
11:25I really, like, when I first saw the dress in real life, I felt like I looked like the Eiffel
11:32Tower at nighttime
11:34when it's, like, bright and, like, kira-kira and all that.
11:38And then I actually got a little worried because when the sun hits the dress, it reflects a lot.
11:45So, I was a little scared that the umpire was going to, like, kick me off the court.
11:51Um...
11:51So, I got, like, two back-up normal Nike dresses.
11:55Shout-out Nike.
11:56Thank God I didn't have to wear them, though.
11:58But, yeah, I just really...
12:00I don't know.
12:01I thought the reflection of the dress was really beautiful.
12:04But it just reminded me of the Eiffel Tower a little bit.
12:18I mean, I have practice with her, like, a couple days ago, and I do think it's gonna be really
12:24tough
12:24because I feel like she is a sneaky good clay court player because she got a silver medal right here.
12:31Yeah, so, um, it's definitely gonna be another tough match.
12:35I think she plays completely different from my opponent today.
12:38But, um, I think if I had to step up to the challenge, I would be ready for it.
12:45Okay, thank you very much.
12:47Cool. Thank you.
12:48Arigato.
