Naomi Osaka (n°23) est de retour parmi les meilleures joueuses du monde. C'est désormais un fait. Lundi soir, en huitièmes de l'US Open, Osaka a brillé en dominant en patronne Coco Gauff (n°3), 6-3, 6-2. Si l'ancienne double lauréate de l'US Open a connu des difficultés avec son service (42 % de premières), elle était en revanche impériale une fois le jeu engagé avec 94 % de points gagnés sur sa première (15/16) et 77 % derrière sa deuxième (17/22), ne concédant aucune balle de break. En face, Coco Gauff a complètement coulé avec 33 fautes directes en seulement 1h06. De retour en quart de finale pour la première fois depuis 2021 en Grand Chelem, Naomi Osaka retrouvera Karolina Muchova (n°11).
