00:3034 winners today, so you went out and hit big
00:33How do you, you know, coming in here
00:35How do you keep up that, maybe, that aggressive
00:37Greenlight approach on a surface
00:39That oftentimes will reward more patience?
00:43I think it's about
00:45Just being a little bit smarter with the way
00:47You're playing offense
00:48And I would say that's more so
00:51When it's night and it's raining
00:53And it's cold
00:54The conditions are quite lively, especially when you play during the day
00:57And it's so hot, and the clay's pretty thin here
00:59So almost it rewards
01:01Regression in a little bit than some other
01:03Clay courts like Rome or
01:04Some slower surfaces, so I think I can
01:06Get away with being aggressive and playing
01:09That type of tennis, just
01:10A little bit smarter with
01:12Playing
01:14To the corners a little bit more, not just rushing linear
01:21Hey Eva, well done
01:23Where do you think your biggest areas of growth have been
01:26Over the last, over the first half of this year?
01:29Good question
01:30I think
01:31I think I'm
01:33Playing with better shape
01:36My
01:36Shots, both forehand and backhand, have more weight on them
01:39So just the overall
01:41Ball quality is higher, and they're not able to
01:43Attack me as easily, I think my defense
01:45Has gotten better, and
01:47The serve is a work
01:48In progress, but I think
01:51That's making strides as well, so
01:53Those couple things
01:58I actually wanted to ask about that defense
02:01How do you go about getting better at defense?
02:03Is it more of a mental thing, or is it
02:05Something in footwork that you've been working with?
02:07I think getting better in defense
02:09Is one of those things
02:10Where it's just
02:12The good old boring work
02:14You have to be on the court
02:16And you have to have someone feed you side to side
02:18And you have to run, and you have to run
02:19And then you have to run again
02:20Until you drop, so
02:21I did a lot of running
02:22I dug out a lot of balls
02:24I got a lot of clay all over myself in practice
02:26So
02:28That's how you practice defense, I think
02:29And then there's also the mental part of being willing
02:31I think in the beginning
02:32You're not even willing to
02:33It's almost like an ego thing
02:35It's like, what? They attacked me?
02:36What are you talking about?
02:37So you have to be willing to play defense
02:38And then you just have to
02:39Freaking run a lot in practice
02:45Hi Eva
02:46Do you feel it's a surface where
02:48You can have as much fun
02:50As hardcourt
02:51The more you play on it
02:52Or do you feel it's always going to be
02:53The one you have to
02:55Pay a special effort to enjoy it?
02:59I think it's not about the enjoyment
03:01I love playing tennis on every surface
03:02I love playing tennis
03:03But it's just a little bit more
03:06Some tactical adjustments
03:07That I need to make
03:08Because it's not the surface
03:09I grew up playing on
03:10But from an enjoyment level
03:12I love it
03:12And I think it also makes
03:14Tennis a little bit more interesting in ways
03:16Because it's a bit slower
03:17And there's more
03:20Comebacks and momentum shifts
03:21Because it's not as much first strike
03:24And you know
03:25Sometimes on the hardcourt
03:26If you go down a break
03:27Or two breaks
03:28That's probably done
03:29Right?
03:30But here it's
03:31You can come back at any moment
03:37Nice job today
03:38Obviously you're coming up
03:40Against a good friend of yours
03:41I know you guys are all professionals
03:42And you kind of have to do that
03:44A lot of the time
03:45But I wonder
03:46Was there anything strange
03:47About coming up against Alex today
03:49And did anything about her game
03:50Surprise you?
03:52I think there's no secrets there
03:54We practice together a ton
03:55We play doubles together a ton
03:57So I think we both know our tendencies
03:59And everyone was ready for the other one
04:02It was just about
04:03Who was going to play their game
04:04A bit better that day
04:05And she's definitely
04:07One of my closest friends on tour
04:08I have so much respect for her
04:09As a person and a player
04:10So you know
04:11We had a big hug before the match
04:13A big hug after
04:14So no bad blood there
04:16I'm sure there will be
04:17Many more matches
04:18And she'll get me a couple times too
04:19So that's tennis
04:24What are your thoughts
04:25On your next match?
04:27Yeah I think
04:29The French Open handed me
04:30A tricky draw here
04:31Honestly
04:31But
04:33It's really tough
04:34I think Emma's
04:35Obviously I played her last week
04:36So that's going to be
04:37A little bit of a rematch
04:38She's playing I think
04:40Kind of prime Navarro right now
04:42And on a little bit of a tear
04:43So
04:44I'm expecting her to play
04:47At the very highest level
04:48And it's just going to be about
04:50Me making some adjustments
04:51From last week
04:52And being able to sustain
04:54That high level
04:55Throughout
04:56One, two, three sets
04:58No matter how long it takes
04:59And not having
05:00Any dips
05:01Because you know
05:01When someone's playing well like that
05:03And on a tear
05:04If you give them a little bit
05:05Then they
05:06They'll take it
05:08One follow up
05:10Do you have any thoughts
05:11On Emma's journey
05:11Because she struggled
05:12A little bit in the past
05:15I think
05:16I think what she's done
05:18For herself is amazing
05:19I don't know
05:20All the personal things
05:21She's dealt with
05:22But coming from
05:23From college
05:24And then transitioning
05:25To herself
05:25Onto the pro tour
05:26She had a
05:28Incredibly fast
05:29Rapid rise
05:30Onto the pros
05:31Breaking into the top ten
05:32And then a little bit
05:33Of a slower start
05:34To the year
05:35But I think
05:36She's very grounded
05:36Keeps a cool head
05:38Even when she's winning
05:38Or losing
05:39So I think
05:40That's what's helped her
05:41Kind of get back
05:42On track this year
05:43And now she's
05:44Definitely back
05:45Playing at the top
05:46Of the game
05:46So good for her
05:48And yeah
05:49She's a nice girl
