00:00And then that brings us up to those Pittsburgh Pirates
00:03and Paul Skeens in the front end of the rotation
00:05playing good baseball until they're not.
00:07As I said, Craig, to start off this segment,
00:10you take a look at this division.
00:11Everybody's over 500.
00:13Well, the only team not above 500,
00:15it's now the Pittsburgh Pirates at 26 and 26.
00:18Hanging around with those 500 teams here,
00:21six and six and one run games,
00:22maybe a little bit unlucky,
00:23should be 28 and 24 based on the metrics,
00:26but what's up with those Pirates
00:27and the expectations for the rest of the way?
00:29Last place at 500,
00:30that's a pretty good number for any other division,
00:32just not this division, it's competitive.
00:34It's like bad luck again.
00:36Like I feel the same way probably for the Pirates.
00:38They do with the Reds.
00:39I mean, if I would look, I'll tell you the one,
00:42I'll get to the most interesting note of the season
00:45for the Pirates here in a minute.
00:46But look, Ashcraft is coming to the rotation.
00:49He's been good.
00:50Jones will come back and he'll be good.
00:51Their pitching is great.
00:52Brandon Lau, what a huge surprise he has been.
00:54He's been just as good in Pittsburgh as he was in Tampa Bay.
00:57So everything is going right.
00:58Here is the wild stat for the Pirates this season.
01:03Why Donnie can't Paul Skeen's pitch during the day?
01:07I don't get it.
01:08He is undefeated with an ERA under one,
01:12no, under a half a run at night.
01:15He has been the most dominant pitcher
01:17in the history of baseball at night.
01:20And during the day, he's Aaron Nola.
01:23So you tell me, I don't know.
01:25I can't figure this one out.
01:27But yesterday or Saturday again, he lost again during the day.
01:33But then you put the lights on and the guy doesn't lose.
01:35It's a very strange one.
01:37I think we should follow this all season.
01:39Night games at LSU, man.
01:41Those big Friday, Saturday night games.
01:43That's where he's used to pitch and turn the lights on.
01:44Like, hey, man, it was bigger in the SEC here at this point.
01:46It is kind of interesting where you do flip the switch literally and figuratively,
01:50and it does affect Paul Skeen's at this point.
01:53By the way, throwing a football right there, looking pretty good.
01:55Pittsburgh Steelers might need him at the end of the season.
01:57O'Neal Cruz, great season to start.
01:59As you said, Lau, great season to start.
02:01I like that lineup all the way through.
02:03But are we seeing what we thought the Pirates would be here, Craig,
02:06around a 500 team?
02:07And also for you, any chances that they can make a wild card run?
02:11Or, boy, you might have to win this division,
02:13and I don't know if they can do that.
02:14Technically five and a half games back this Memorial Day weekend from the top.
02:18Yeah, if I'm going to be right,
02:21then it would be Pittsburgh and Cincinnati beating up on St. Louis
02:25as we move forward, and then those teams jumping in.
02:28I think that the Reds and Pirates will be in it in September.
02:32I don't know how far it's going to go, but I think they'll be in it.
02:36I don't think that they'll be sellers.
02:38I don't think that they'll be buyers, but I think they'll be in the mix.
02:42I don't know if that's good enough, but that's the way I view it.
02:45Yeah, the pitch, again, Bubba Chandler, ERA, Craig, 4.79.
02:49But the rest of it, keeping in games here, Ashcraft here,
02:51it looks like he's at, what, 2.89.
02:53Take a look at Majinski, your favorite name in baseball, Craig, 3.96.
02:56And Mitch Keller also at 3.86.
02:58So everybody doing their part.
02:59And Paul Skeens, as you said, pitched more night than the day.
03:01It's still a 3 ERA for him.
03:03You look at this and say,
03:04this team should be actually performing better, and maybe they can.
03:07And...
