01:25today's story
01:26the setup michael dipolito grew up in a very rough neighborhood in south philadelphia
01:42where violence drugs and prostitution were just normal parts of everyday life at a young age like
01:49his parents michael became an alcoholic he also developed a very serious drug addiction that he
01:54paid for by selling drugs michael would eventually drop out of high school and not long after that
02:00he became homeless and was living out on the streets sleeping in abandoned buildings at night to stay
02:05warm in 1993 when michael was still in south philadelphia he was arrested for the first time
02:11he was charged with possession of an unknown drug as well as intent to distribute this unknown drug court
02:18records don't specify what drug this was however michael just did not show up for court and so a warrant
02:24was put out for his arrest michael would somehow manage to evade police capture and by 1997 he had
02:31fled south philly altogether and landed in south florida in a town called boca raton oh oh well this is
02:39the um
02:40the whole story that he was talking about at the very beginning south florida all right let's see what
02:47happens shortly after arriving there michael was arrested for a second time this time for offering
02:53an undercover police officer fifteen dollars in exchange for sex michael would plead guilty to
02:59soliciting prostitution however he would just get released a year after the prostitution arrest michael
03:06was sued by a former girlfriend named karen tan who claimed he was the father of her son and so
03:12he owed her child support and karen had a dna test that backed up this claim however michael again would
03:19just not show up for court and before long karen just gave up and dropped the lawsuit michael was likely
03:26very relieved when this happened because at the time he was making almost no money through a temp agency
03:32and so after this lawsuit gets dropped michael decides i need to go out and make some real money
03:38and somehow on his quest to find a more lucrative opportunity michael was introduced to associates of
03:45the bonanno family and the bonanno family is one of the infamous five families that dominates organized
03:53crime across the united states they are literally the italian mafia and after the mafia met michael they took a
04:01liking to him and they did offer him a more lucrative albeit illegal opportunity they gave him
04:07a role inside one of their so-called boiler rooms a boiler room is not literally a boiler room instead
04:13it's a group of fraudsters that use high pressure sales tactics to steal money from unsuspecting victims
04:20typically the way it works is the fraudster will cold call someone and they will tell them that they have
04:26this
04:26great get rich quick scheme but you got to give me your money right now if you want to be
04:30a part of it
04:30and so when the victim says okay that sounds great and they wire the money along the fraudster just
04:36steals their money michael who was very charismatic now that's savage that is savage oh yeah we got a
04:44great opportunity you just got to give me your money right now you know get people's emotions involved
04:48into the situation and you you rush them so that they don't have time to truly think about it you
04:54know and
04:54process the whole thing or go consult with anybody else you just kind of push them through the whole
04:59thing and get their money and gone into the wind see you later sheesh and a natural salesman
05:10got really good at tricking people into giving him their money and so eventually michael realized he
05:16could make a lot more money if he started his own boiler room where his commission could be much higher
05:22on
05:22the money he stole and so fairly abruptly he left the mafia's boiler room we don't really know how they
05:29reacted to this and michael would set up not one but two boiler room scams of his own in south
05:35florida
05:36and by 2002 he had pocketed a hundred and fifty five thousand dollars of stolen money however he had spent
05:44virtually all of it on fancy hotels and cars and phone sex but the good times would not last for
05:51michael because in 2002 the police caught on to michael's boiler room scams and they raided them
05:57and michael was arrested for a third time except this time he would go to court he would stand trial
06:04and he would be sentenced to two years in prison 28 years of probation and he would be ordered to
06:11pay back
06:11the 155 000 that he stole michael would only serve 28 years of probation i didn't even know that was
06:20possible 20 almost 30 yo that is crazy pay back the 155 000 that he stole michael would only serve
06:30seven months of his two-year jail sentence but that was more than enough to leave a huge impact on
06:36him
06:36michael hated prison he hated every second of it and so during those long sleepless nights that he
06:42was laying awake in his cell he made a promise to himself that when he got out when he was
06:47released
06:48he would never ever come back and so in 2003 when he was released he immediately entered a sobriety
06:55program he also started going to the gym every morning and he began studying for his ged which is
07:01a high school equivalency test because he didn't get his high school diploma after he successfully earned his
07:06ged a couple of months later he would also start a legal business it was a digital marketing firm
07:12that was called mad money inc over the next several years michael would do his very best to stay on
07:18the
07:18straight and narrow and not get in trouble and for the most part he did that by 2008 michael was
07:24still
07:24sober despite a few setbacks and he was still very focused on his physical fitness and his health
07:29and his business mad money was doing quite well earning him nearly a hundred thousand dollars a year
07:35but his love life had become a bit messy michael had gotten married back in 2007 to his longtime
07:41girlfriend named maria luongo who had stood by him when he went to jail but that year in 2008 when
07:48michael
07:48was 38 years old he cheated on maria with a 26 year old real estate agent named dahlia mohammed who
07:55he
07:55met at a starbucks and instead of their affair being a quick fling as they likely both intended it to
08:01be
08:02michael and dahlia quickly fell in love and when that happened michael went to his wife maria and
08:08he told her and then he divorced her just three days after the divorce finalized michael and dahlia
08:14went to the courthouse and they got married the newlyweds would move into a brand new condo that michael
08:20had purchased for them in boynton beach which is a beautiful town in south florida and for a time
08:25their life was perfect they knew it was a little outrageous the way they had met each other and how
08:31quickly they had fallen for each other but they didn't care they got along great and they were
08:35excited about the future but their perfect life it's gonna all come crashing down during the honeymoon
08:41phase you know the googly-eyed oh my god you know butterflies in the stomach yeah it's all about
08:48to come crashing down i i i i can guarantee that and it and it's not you know unnormal for
08:57that i at
08:57least i don't feel that it's not you know abnormal for that to happen you see that all the time
09:03where
09:03people first meet each other and they're super super excited and yada yada yada like they literally
09:09got married right after the divorce like no no time no no years spent nothing just straight to it
09:17so i'm willing to bet that it all comes crashing down and when it crashes it's gonna burn let's get
09:24back to the video there we go and how quickly they had fallen for each other but they didn't care
09:34they
09:35got along great and they were excited about the future but their perfect life would not last long
09:40on the evening of march 12 2009 so only about a month after they had gotten married michael and
09:46dahlia were at home in their condo when they heard a knock on the front door and so michael went
09:51to
09:52the door he opened it up and much to his surprise standing on the other side was his probation officer
09:57and behind him was a whole bunch of police officers and before michael could even ask what was going on
10:03the probation officer told michael that they had received an anonymous call tipping them off that michael
10:10was selling steroids and ecstasy pills and other drugs out of his condo michael would tell the
10:15probation officer that there was no way that was true he is not selling any drugs he's sober he's
10:20not doing that and so eventually michael just stepped aside and said please come in search my
10:25condo i have nothing to hide and so sure enough the police they would go into his condo they would
10:29search it but they wouldn't find anything and they would leave and so after the police oh crap
10:35i guess i was wrong
10:39oh man but i i've definitely seen this story happen the way that i described plenty of times so i
10:44was
10:44just like all right well this is this is another one i was wrong my bad had gone michael and
10:51dahlia
10:52found themselves just standing in their condo completely dumbfounded but instead of trying to
10:57get to the bottom of it right then and there about who had called and why they just decided it
11:02was best for
11:02them to just leave their condo for the night and go stay at a nice hotel and so they packed
11:07up some
11:07bags they left their condo which was a total mess from the police search and they went to the hotel
11:12and they had a nice night together the next morning when they got up and headed down to the parking
11:17lot
11:17they saw up ahead standing around michael's car was michael's probation officer as well as several
11:24other police officers and so michael and dahlia are looking at each other like what is this again and so
11:30they hustle on over to michael's car and before they can even plead their innocence to michael's
11:35probation officer he stops michael and just says look we got another anonymous call this time telling
11:41us that you are selling drugs out of your vehicle and so we need to search it and so michael
11:46is just
11:46totally beside himself but he says look go ahead search it there's nothing in the car and so sure
11:51enough the police would open up his car they'd rip it apart but again they wouldn't find anything over
11:56the next couple of weeks the only thing michael and dahlia ever wanted to talk about was what the
12:02heck was going on who is placing these anonymous calls claiming that michael was selling drugs out
12:08of the condo and out of the car it just didn't add up they wanted to believe that this was
12:13all just
12:14one big mistake but in the back of both of their minds they were thinking about michael's very checkered
12:19past and his previous dealings with the mafia and with people he had clearly ripped off and so maybe
12:27there was someone in his past that was looking to get back at michael and maybe get him arrested
12:31and sent back to jail fast forward to march 29th so 17 days after that first raid on their condo
12:39and that night michael and dahlia had been eating dinner at a restaurant and when they left and headed
12:45out to the parking lot once again standing around michael's car were several police officers clearly
12:51waiting for him to return and so without even needing to ask why they were there michael and
12:56dahlia they go over to them and they just start pleading with them to understand that this is a
13:01setup we do not have drugs in this car we don't know what's going on here please you gotta understand
13:06that someone's doing this to us but this time when they searched his car they would find something
13:15before we go any further i want to tell you about today's sponsor experience hold on wait wait wait
13:21wait wait wait so he got set up
13:27hold on wait no it's the it's gotta be the girlfriend right i'm i'm thinking i'm thinking now that i
13:36was
13:36right and it was the girlfriend the entire time it was her she was the one that was making the
13:44the
13:44anonymous calls about him selling all this stuff and now she planted something in the car but let's
13:54find out let's find out get about my five thousand dollar debt and been a slow and experience web scan
14:02fraud and if at least submit go score okay back to the story all right here we go my bad
14:09after searching michael's car the police would find a small bag of cocaine stuck inside of a
14:15cigarette carton tucked underneath his spare tire in the trunk and when michael saw them pull the
14:20cocaine out he began to cry because he knew even though it was not his and he had not put
14:26it there
14:26that he was going to jail because he was gonna get arrested for possession and he was on probation and
14:31he was screwed and so he just begins crying and check and see whose fingerprints are on it
14:36leading with police to understand that the cocaine was not his he swears it's not his
14:41meanwhile dahlia you know she's looking at the drugs and now she's second guessing herself you know
14:45is michael lying is he actually selling drugs and he's been lying to me too but when she sees her
14:51husband crying hysterically and looking so sincere she believes that he's got to be telling the truth
14:56and so pretty soon she was standing beside michael and pleading with police as well to let them go
15:02that this was totally just a setup and amazingly these police officers who were aware of the
15:07previous raids on michael and dahlia's property they told them look we do think this is pretty
15:13suspicious that somebody keeps calling in about you selling drugs and now magically the drugs are in
15:18your car and so what we're going to do is we're going to confiscate this cocaine we're not going to
15:22arrest you instead go home be safe call us if you see anything strange you hear anything strange
15:27and we're going to begin investigating to figure out who is making all of these calls and so michael
15:33and dahlia were totally relieved to hear this but at the same time they were kind of terrified
15:37because clearly whoever was looking to get michael in trouble now was prepared to break into his
15:44property in order to do it and so what was stopping them from breaking into their condo and yeah that
15:49was
15:49my next thing like how did they get into the car you know um and like you just said what's
15:56stopping
15:57them from breaking into their home that's scary right there planting drugs in there as well and
16:04so after these police officers left michael and dahlia hopped in the car they sped back to their condo
16:09and they went inside and they searched it top to bottom looking for any sign that anyone had recently
16:15been in there or if there were drugs or anything illegal inside of their condo and after looking
16:19and finding nothing they just locked their doors shut their windows shut the blinds and just prayed
16:24that the police would be able to quickly identify who was doing this to them and make them stop but
16:31over the next few months the police would not figure out who this anonymous caller was because the
16:37caller stopped calling and so for a little while michael and dahlia were convinced that the whole ordeal
16:42nope it's it's not over it's not over the caller was upset that he didn't actually go to jail
16:50and is trying to figure out a way to make sure that he goes to jail or to make sure
16:56that he no longer
16:57exists let's see if i'm right it was over and done with and they basically returned to their normal lives
17:04but on august 5th 2009 roughly four months after the cocaine was found in michael's car
17:11the anonymous caller would come back with a vengeance uh-oh see see
17:18they're back with the vengeance and i guarantee you this time it is going to be something that is
17:25so over the top so crazy that something is going to happen either he's going to prison or he's
17:35no longer existing on this earth that's my bet that's my bet y'all let me know what you think
17:43in the comment section what what is about to actually happen here all right let's get back to these video
17:53michael's car the anonymous caller would come back with a vengeance on that morning at around 5 45 a.m
18:00dalia left the condo leaving michael in bed and she headed out to the local gym to get a workout
18:05in
18:06around 6 30 in the morning she stepped off the treadmill and she looked at her phone and she
18:10saw she had a missed call from a number she didn't recognize and this number had left her a voicemail
18:15and so she calls her voicemail she puts it to her ear and as she's listening her heart starts to
18:20race
18:20because it was a boynton beach detective telling her there had been some sort of incident at her condo
18:26and she needed to come back right away terrified dalia grabbed her things and she ran out of the
18:31gym she got in her car and she called this number back and when the detective picked up she tried
18:36to
18:36get more information from him about what this incident was you know what happened and the
18:41detective would only say that it involved her husband and he would explain everything when she
18:45came back and so in a total state of shock dalia turned on her car and she sped out of
18:50the parking
18:50lot and she headed back towards her condo and when she turned onto her street and saw her condo
18:55she hit the brakes and just stared in front of her condo were all these police cars with their
19:01lights on and police officers were walking around and yellow crime scene tape was lining the outside
19:06of her property and inside of the taped off area there were all these crime scene photographers
19:11taking pictures of her condo and so as dalia is sitting in her car at the top of the street
19:17just
19:17staring at this crazy scene she's seeing one of the boynton beach police officers sees her and walks up and
19:23after confirming that she was dalia dipolito he said to her you know leave your car here and come
19:29with me and so dalia who knows obviously something bad has happened but really doesn't know the extent
19:34of it she puts her car in park she gets out and she begins walking with this police officer over
19:39towards this cluster of three people that are standing right in front of her property and it would
19:43turn out one of them was the detective who had called her on the phone and so dalia's led over
19:48and
19:48that detective as soon as he sees dalia he walks over to her and he says to her very matter
19:53-of-factly
19:53that someone had called about a disturbance in their condo and shots were fired and unfortunately
19:59her husband michael was dead dalia who was totally hysterical uh real photo real photo of dalia being
20:09told that michael has been oh yeah
20:19i i figured it was gonna end this way it was one of two ways something crazy to where like
20:26he is going to prison like it's just so undeniable like he has to go you know or he no
20:33longer exists
20:36and unfortunately man was gently led away michael was dead dahlia who was totally hysterical was
20:47gently led away from her condo into a nearby police car and they would drive her to the police station
20:53where they would sit her down and begin asking her questions about her husband and they would say to
20:58her look i know you just found this out but we gotta figure out what could have happened because a
21:03killer is on the loose we need to find this person and stop them and so at first the conversation
21:08was
21:08really just dahlia crying and the detective kind of calming her down but eventually she would tell
21:13the detective about the anonymous caller who kept calling the police and claiming michael was selling
21:18drugs and how she and michael suspected that you know probably the anonymous caller was connected to
21:25someone from his past maybe someone from the mafia or maybe one of the victims of his boiler room scam
21:30or it could be any number of other people that michael had done wrong in the past and so the
21:35detective he's taking diligent notes and he's listening to dahlia and then at some point in a
21:40break in the conversation he says to dahlia okay it's time to get serious i need to know if you
21:46know this
21:46guy and so dahlia she was kind of looking down and she looks up confused what he's talking about
21:50and then the door opens and this huge guy in handcuffs walks into the room come here bring this guy
21:59in
21:59here
22:01get over here get over here you know who this guy is no you've never seen him before i've never
22:08seen him
22:09before do you know her put your head up what were you doing coming out of her house
22:20get him out of here
22:22it would turn out dahlia was lying she did know who that guy was almost immediately after marrying michael
22:29six months earlier she had stolen two hundred thousand dollars from him but apparently that wasn't
22:34enough for her she needed the rest of michael's money as well as his condo and so she had been
22:40the anonymous caller she was the one calling the police and tipping them off that michael was selling
22:46drugs out of the condo and out of his car she was the one who planted the cocaine in the
22:50back of his
22:51car because she wanted him to get arrested because he was on probation and he would go back to jail
22:56for
22:56a really long time but when her efforts failed and michael did not get arrested and so did not go
23:02back to
23:03jail dahlia moved on to plan b she reached out to one of her ex-boyfriends and she asked him
23:08hey do
23:09you know any hitmen that could murder my husband and the ex-boyfriend at first didn't think she was
23:15serious but when she kept asking him about it and began offering to pay and really was making it clear
23:21that she wasn't joking around the ex-boyfriend basically told her no i don't know any hitmen and
23:26then he the ex-boyfriend called the boynton beach police department and told them about dahlia and
23:32her plan to hire a hitman to kill michael and so when the boynton beach police ah they set her
23:38up
23:41my guy's still alive huh okay all right so originally in my original assumption i was right
23:53because i said that after the honeymoon phase
24:04the police department found out about this plot they immediately had one of their undercover agents
24:11pose as a hitman and set up a meeting with dahlia and so the undercover agent was that huge guy
24:18in
24:18handcuffs that was led into the room with dahlia and so dahlia goes to meet the undercover agent the
24:23fake hitman she gets into his car and there's a hidden camera in the back seat that's filming her
24:28the whole time and she's caught on camera saying she wants to kill her husband she gives money to
24:34the undercover agent and then as she's about to get out the agent turns to her and he says are
24:39you sure
24:40you want to do this because as soon as you leave it's done i am going to kill michael and
24:44you can't
24:44stop it this is dahlia's reaction there's no changing no there's no like i'm determined already
24:51i'm positive like five thousand percent charlotte no when i say i'm going to do something i'm going
24:55to do it like if you told me i need the money from you i went i grabbed it right
24:58away like we were good
25:00to go like with me you're not going to have a problem you're not going to have an issue and
25:03so the
25:04boynton beach police department they have all this information about what dahlia thinks is going to
25:08happen and they decide they can use this information to set her up in the most elaborate
25:14way possible and it just so happened the very popular true crime tv show cops was filming in the
25:21area and so the boynton beach police department allowed cops to be a part of this elaborate setup
25:28so they got to film everything that happened so on the morning of august 5th dahlia got up and left
25:33her condo at 5 45 a.m and headed to the gym knowing at least in her mind that the
25:39hitman
25:39would be coming to her condo right after her breaking in and shooting her husband twice in
25:45the head because that was the plan they had come up with that was captured on film and so after
25:50the
25:50police see her leave at 5 45 a.m because they were monitoring the condo they rushed in they knocked
25:56on
25:56the door and they got michael to come downstairs and he had no idea his wife was trying to kill
26:01him
26:01so he comes to the door he's totally confused but he goes with them and he's kind of ushered off
26:05to
26:05the police station and then for about the next hour the police set up a very convincing fake crime scene
26:12right out front of the condo and then once it was all set up that detective called dahlia and left
26:18her
26:18a voicemail saying that you know there's been this incident you need to come back to your condo
26:22and then a couple of minutes later when dahlia called them back and said okay i'm coming back to
26:26the condo now that's when the tv crews for the cops tv show they kind of set up in the
26:32bushes and
26:32got ready to film what happened next listen we had a report of a disturbance at your house
