00:00Back at it again, baby, and we got another one with Mr. Ballin'. Let's dive in.
00:05In 2021, police in Salt Lake City, Utah, discovered a strange video on someone's phone.
00:12Now, this video, which at first seems kind of playful, is one of the most disturbing and distressing videos when
00:18you realize what it's about.
00:20Fair warning, we're going to play a portion of that video in today's episode, towards the end of the episode.
00:26And also, fair warning, the ending to this story is just totally heartbreaking and brutal, so viewer discretion is advised.
00:34But before we get into today's story, if you're a fan of the Strange, Dark, and Mysterious Deliberative Story format,
00:40then you've come to the right place because that's all we do, and we upload once or twice every week.
00:44So, if that's of interest to you, please move in to the room directly above the Like Buttons apartment,
00:49and immediately begin hosting tap dancing classes in your apartment.
00:53Also, please subscribe to our channel and turn on all notifications.
00:57That is savage.
00:59Moving to the upstairs apartment and start doing some tap dancing.
01:03Holy.
01:04So you don't miss any of our weekly uploads.
01:06Okay, let's get into today's story.
01:21Caught in 4K.
01:24Oh, you know, you know when he puts the warning on here, we're about to get into some real deep
01:29poop right here.
01:32We're about to get into something serious.
01:34On January 28th, 1976, Daniel Halseth was born in a small town in Oregon called Estacata,
01:41which is located about 30 miles southeast of Portland.
01:45Daniel's family owned a farm, and so from a young age,
01:48Daniel became accustomed to getting up super early and helping out with daily chores.
01:53This childhood experience on the farm instilled in Daniel a strong work ethic,
01:58and it also taught Daniel to really appreciate family,
02:02because the family he had grown up in spent all their time together,
02:05and they all struggled and worked together every day to make ends meet.
02:10In high school, Daniel really began to blossom.
02:12He had this wonderful energy and huge, radiant smile that drew people to him,
02:17and he was just one of those people that was just naturally gifted at everything he did,
02:21and it seemed totally effortless.
02:23Well, we know he survived through high school,
02:26because that picture looked way after high school.
02:29During his high school years, he picked up playing the piano as well as the drums,
02:34and his classmates affectionately nicknamed him Drummer Dan.
02:38Daniel was also amazing with anything to do with computers or technology,
02:42and Daniel was just very handsome and very athletic and fit,
02:46and so he was really the guy that everybody wanted to be.
02:49But despite having all of these things going for him,
02:52Daniel was dealt a major blow in 1994 when he was in his junior year of high school.
02:58That year, his father, who he was quite close with, died unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm.
03:04This was a crushing blow for a young man that still very much leaned on his father for guidance and
03:10support.
03:11But Daniel, like the rest of his family, found a way to just keep on going despite this immense heartbreak.
03:18In 1995, so a year after his father's death, Daniel would graduate high school,
03:23and he would head to Salem, Oregon, where he would go to school and earn his bachelor's degree in music,
03:28and then he would stick around in Salem at another university,
03:31and he would earn his master's in business.
03:33And it was during those years that he was in Salem
03:36that Daniel would meet a young woman named Elizabeth Shorak, who had grown up in Salem.
03:41She, like Daniel, was incredibly hardworking and was just naturally good at everything she tried.
03:47She was also a model, and so when she and Daniel began dating,
03:51they genuinely looked like this beautiful Hollywood couple.
03:55In 2001, which was shortly after Daniel had earned his master's degree,
03:59he and Elizabeth got married.
04:01Five years later, the couple, who now were the proud parents of three young children,
04:06two girls and a boy, they moved to Las Vegas because Daniel had found work there.
04:10Daniel had founded this computer IT company because he was so skilled with computers,
04:14and it was really starting to thrive, and many of his clients were in or around Las Vegas.
04:19But just a few years after getting settled in Las Vegas,
04:23it would be Elizabeth's career ambitions that would take center stage in the family.
04:28Elizabeth had always wanted to get into politics,
04:31and in 2010, she decided she would run for a state senate seat in Nevada.
04:36But in order to do that, she would need to campaign really aggressively,
04:40which would mean she'd be gone a lot of the time,
04:43and so Daniel, who was working full-time with this computer company,
04:46he would need to keep doing that because that paid the bills,
04:50but he would also have to become the primary parent for their three children.
04:54And so when she approached Daniel and said,
04:56you know, I really want to do this, but it requires a lot out of you.
05:00Are you willing to do this?
05:01Daniel was completely supportive and actually really excited at the idea.
05:06He had no problems whatsoever.
05:07And so very soon, Elizabeth...
05:09I think I know what story this is, maybe?
05:14But I guess we'll find out here soon.
05:16Elizabeth would be out on the road campaigning and trying to win the state senate seat,
05:20and Daniel would be home goofing around with the kids
05:23and taking them hiking and going to playgrounds and parks,
05:25and then after he would put the kids to bed at night,
05:28he would stay up super late and run his computer business out of their dining room.
05:32And all this additional hard work and sacrifice that Daniel was making for his wife
05:37paid off when later that year, on November 2nd,
05:41Elizabeth, who had run this incredible campaign
05:43that was built on family values and wholesomeness and morality,
05:47she would win the state senate seat, which shocked the state of Nevada.
05:52And even more impressive,
05:53she would become the youngest woman to ever be elected to Nevada legislature
05:58at just 27 years old.
06:00So it was clear to everyone in Nevada and also outside of Nevada
06:04that Elizabeth was destined for greatness.
06:07She was going to be the next big political superstar.
06:10And anyone who was close to the Halseth family knew
06:14Daniel was her number one cheerleader.
06:16He was so, so proud of her.
06:18But soon, the Halseth's perfect life would come crumbling down.
06:23Uh-oh.
06:24Uh-oh.
06:25So if this is the situation where...
06:28Oh, man, there was like a deranged guy who came in
06:34and unfortunately ended some politician's life?
06:41If this is that story, then yeah, I've definitely heard it before.
06:45But, um, let's dive back in and, uh, find out.
06:53Uh-oh.
06:54...would come crumbling down.
06:56It was not long after Elizabeth had won her election
06:59that Daniel began to notice she was becoming suspiciously close
07:03with another man named Tiger Helgelian,
07:06who was a former golf pro and fellow rising political star.
07:10After noticing his wife constantly texting with Tiger...
07:14Ooh, I was wrong.
07:16Never mind.
07:16...Daniel would actually reach out to Tiger directly
07:19and beg him to stop messaging his wife
07:22and to just leave his family alone.
07:24But the texting and the calling
07:26and the interactions between those two would not stop.
07:29And then finally, in October of 2011,
07:32so less than a year into Elizabeth's first term as a state senator,
07:36Daniel would find out that his wife and Tiger
07:39had been away together alone on this long extended work trip.
07:44And so Daniel realized that almost certainly
07:46his wife was having an affair.
07:48And so when his wife came home from this trip
07:51and she was unpacking in their bedroom,
07:53Daniel walked into the room
07:54and he accused her of being unfaithful.
07:56And the argument that ensued got very heated,
08:00but it did not become physically violent.
08:02Basically, Daniel just screamed and yelled at Elizabeth,
08:06swearing at her and kind of losing his temper completely.
08:09But at some point, Elizabeth just said,
08:11Daniel, stop.
08:12And Daniel would actually stop.
08:14And in fact, both Elizabeth and Daniel,
08:16when they were called this night,
08:18would say as soon as she said stop,
08:20Daniel stopped yelling and he left the room.
08:22Over the next couple of days,
08:24Daniel and Elizabeth would go to therapy sessions
08:26at their church,
08:28indicating that they both were making a concerted effort
08:30to try to salvage their marriage.
08:32But on October 21st,
08:34five days after this big blow-up fight about the affair,
08:38Elizabeth would go to police
08:40and she would claim Daniel had touched her inappropriately
08:43during the fight they had over the affair.
08:46And so Daniel, much to his shock,
08:48was arrested and charged with something called
08:52open and gross lewdness,
08:54which is effectively unwanted touching of another person.
08:58This accusation is quite common,
09:00especially amongst people at bars who are drinking.
09:03You know, there's lots of unwanted touching
09:05that can happen there.
09:06But interestingly, this particular charge
09:08is cited as being one of the more frequently
09:11falsely accused offenses
09:13because the police do not require any physical proof
09:17to actually arrest someone.
09:19Basically, people are, in theory,
09:22able to get other people arrested
09:24simply by claiming they inappropriately touched them,
09:27even if there is not a shred of proof.
09:29It's basically one person's word against the other.
09:32After being found guilty of open and gross lewdness,
09:35Daniel was sentenced to six months of probation,
09:38anger management,
09:39and he had to register as a sex offender.
09:41Shortly after...
09:42Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, what?
09:45No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
09:47That, that can't be allowed, right?
09:50There's no evidence.
09:53Anybody can accuse anybody of that
09:56at any given moment and, oh, well,
09:59you have to register now.
10:01That's bogus.
10:02I do not agree with that.
10:05I don't know what the solution to that is,
10:07but that, no, absolutely not.
10:10What?
10:13I can't be the only one, right?
10:14Y'all let me know in the comment section, please.
10:16After he was found guilty, Daniel filed for divorce.
10:19Their divorce, which was heavily centered
10:21on who gets custody of their three kids,
10:24was very contentious, it was very bitter,
10:26and it was very public.
10:28Because Elizabeth was a state senator,
10:30she was in the public eye,
10:32and because her campaign that she had run on
10:35to get elected was built entirely on wholesomeness
10:38and family values and having good moral character,
10:42that when rumors started to fly
10:44that she had had this affair with Tiger Helgelian
10:46and that had blown up her family
10:48and her husband is being charged
10:50with open and gross lewdness,
10:52it was just so salacious
10:53that despite her denying that she ever had this affair
10:56and acting like she was in the right,
10:58she was still forced to resign
11:00from her state senate seat in February of 2012.
11:03The divorce would finalize later that year
11:05and most likely because of Daniel's new sex offender status
11:10from the open and gross lewdness charge,
11:12he was denied custody of the three children
11:15despite the fact that for the last several years,
11:17he had been the everyday primary parent.
11:20So Elizabeth, she gets custody of all three kids
11:23and she promptly leaves Nevada to go to Alaska
11:27with her three kids to live with Tiger Helgelian,
11:31the man she denied having an affair with.
11:33Shortly after arriving in Alaska,
11:35she married Tiger Helgelian.
11:37Daniel was heartbroken.
11:39It was like his life had blown up in a matter of seconds,
11:41but most devastating of all was that his kids,
11:45who he called his three little angels,
11:47were now so far away from him,
11:49he couldn't even see them if he wanted to.
11:51But just like he had done back in 1994
11:54when his father passed away,
11:56Daniel just found a way to keep on going
11:58despite this horrible pain he was feeling.
12:00Over the next few years,
12:02Daniel would pour himself into his computer business
12:04and really make that his full-time effort.
12:07And he would make every effort to see his children
12:10any chance he got,
12:11but because his relationship with his ex-wife Elizabeth
12:14was not good,
12:16it was really difficult to see his kids.
12:18Eventually, Daniel would meet another woman named Bogdana
12:22and they would actually get married.
12:24That's totally bogus that she can just up and leave
12:26with their kids and just go,
12:29I don't know how far Alaska is from Nevada,
12:32but that's bogus that she can just up
12:35and go that far away with their kids
12:39and just, you know, get on with it.
12:42You know, I don't, yeah.
12:45Y'all let me know how you feel about that.
12:46I think that's bogus.
12:48And when that happened,
12:49it seemed like in the eyes of Daniel's family,
12:51he was starting to kind of finally
12:53get his life back on track.
12:55Around this time,
12:56Daniel began sharing more and more of his life
12:59on his social media channels.
13:00And every post he made,
13:02and he made lots of them nearly every day,
13:04were so overwhelmingly positive and optimistic.
13:08And it really showcased his wonderful personality
13:11that was all about lifting up your fellow person
13:14and just being a good human being.
13:16And he also posted loads of videos
13:18of him goofing around with his three kids
13:20because he adored his kids.
13:22They were the most important thing to him by far.
13:26But despite having this very cheerful outward presence
13:28on social media,
13:30privately, Daniel was dealt yet another
13:33very difficult blow in 2019
13:35when his marriage to Bogdana,
13:37his second wife, fell apart.
13:39And so once again, Daniel was all alone.
13:41His social media posts around the time
13:44of the second divorce remained positive
13:47and very optimistic for the most part.
13:49But anytime you saw an image
13:51of Daniel actually facing the camera,
13:53you could just see a distinct sadness in his eyes.
13:56But just as quickly as it seemed like,
13:58once again, Daniel's life was just gonna crumble,
14:01something truly amazing happened for Daniel.
14:04Uh-oh.
14:05What amazing happened to the brother Daniel?
14:09Daniel, he won the lottery.
14:14That might be my guess.
14:15He won the lottery.
14:17You know, all this stuff is crumbling around him
14:20and bam, he, you know,
14:22let me just buy a lottery ticket
14:24and see how it goes.
14:25Kind of, you know, kind of situation.
14:27And everything turns around.
14:29But let's find out the actual truth.
14:34Oh, crap.
14:35There we go.
14:37...wife was just gonna crumble.
14:39Something truly amazing happened for Daniel.
14:42Daniel's first ex-wife, Elizabeth,
14:44and their three kids decided to leave Alaska
14:47and come back to Nevada and resettle in Las Vegas.
14:50This was not because Elizabeth wanted
14:52to rekindle with Daniel.
14:53It was just because she and the kids
14:55liked living in Las Vegas and wanted to come back.
14:58And as soon as they were back,
15:00Daniel suddenly got to see his kids all the time.
15:03He was so excited and so happy.
15:05In fact, by late 2020,
15:07Daniel's youngest daughter, Sierra, who was 16,
15:10she had basically just moved in with Daniel.
15:13Even though, legally speaking,
15:14she was not supposed to be doing that.
15:16And her mom, Elizabeth, was totally unhappy about it.
15:19But regardless, that was just how it was.
15:21She was...
15:22You'll love to see it.
15:23You know, father with his kids, man.
15:25It's a beautiful thing.
15:26...living with Daniel.
15:26In August of that year,
15:28so around the time that Sierra
15:29had basically moved back in with Daniel,
15:32Daniel decided to take his ex-wife, Elizabeth,
15:35back to court to see if he could get custody of Sierra.
15:39Because Sierra was the only minor of their three children.
15:42She was still 16.
15:43And at that point, Sierra was already living with him.
15:46During the recorded video sessions
15:48between Daniel, Elizabeth, and the judge,
15:50Daniel would tell the judge that life in Elizabeth's home
15:54was totally toxic and not good for his children
15:57and certainly not good for Sierra.
15:59Daniel would explain to the judge
16:00that Sierra was really struggling
16:02with some mental health issues.
16:04And what she needed right now was professional therapy,
16:07something he had already enrolled her in
16:09since she had moved back in with him.
16:11Daniel also presented to the judge
16:13a letter that he said Sierra wrote
16:15that basically backed up the idea
16:17that she is better off living with her father.
16:20Elizabeth would generally respond
16:22to all of these things that Daniel was saying
16:24by saying Daniel was a liar
16:26and that he was not fit to be a parent.
16:28And that letter that he claims Sierra wrote
16:31doesn't sound like her,
16:33insinuating that, you know, the letter was forged.
16:35The judge, who at regular intervals
16:37would get very frustrated with both Daniel and Elizabeth,
16:41finally would just say,
16:43look, you've got all sorts of issues
16:44between the two of you
16:45and it's creating a horrible environment for your kids.
16:48And if you don't find a way to come
16:50to some sort of compromise,
16:51the people that are going to suffer are your kids,
16:55specifically Sierra.
16:56Finally, in early 2021,
16:58when Daniel and Elizabeth still had not come to terms,
17:01the judge just ordered that Daniel return Sierra
17:04to her mother's residence
17:06because legally speaking, Sierra-
17:08Oh, darn it.
17:09And I kind of figured that might've happened.
17:11I think he should have just, you know,
17:14gone along with whatever Sierra wanted to do
17:16if she wanted to stay at his house.
17:17Cool, yeah, of course, legally he's not in custody
17:21of his daughter
17:22and maybe there's some legal ramifications to that
17:26if, you know, his wife or ex-wife wanted to pursue that,
17:30but his daughter was staying there willingly.
17:33She was 16,
17:35so she's almost at the age of moving out anyway,
17:39but I don't know.
17:41I would've just left it at that
17:44unless, you know, his ex-wife wanted to pursue legal action.
17:48And also, I would've tried to bring the daughter
17:53onto the live stream
17:57with both parents and had her say her piece.
18:01Whose house do you want to stay at?
18:04I think a 16-year-old kid
18:07should be able to decide
18:08which parents' house they want to stay at.
18:10And also, parents,
18:12put your feelings to the side when you have kids.
18:14Kids come first.
18:15I don't care about your feelings about the other person.
18:18The kids should always come first.
18:19What is best for the kid
18:22should be best for everybody.
18:24That's the way that I see it.
18:25Some people are just so childish, though.
18:27I don't know.
18:28Sheesh.
18:28was supposed to be in her mother's care.
18:30And so, begrudgingly,
18:32Daniel would take Sierra
18:33and he would bring her back to her mother's house
18:35and he would say,
18:35okay, you know, go see your mother.
18:37And then he would drive off.
18:39But later that night,
18:40Sierra would sneak out of her mother's house
18:42and just run back to be with her dad.
18:44Needless to say,
18:45Daniel was not unhappy about that turn of events.
18:49The custody battle over Sierra
18:51continued to rage for the next several months,
18:53with Sierra opting to still remain at her father's place
18:57despite the court order,
18:58despite her mother pleading with her to come home.
19:00And then, in April of 2021,
19:04something very odd happened.
19:05On the morning of April 8th,
19:07several hundred dollars was withdrawn
19:09from Daniel's bank account
19:10from a few different ATMs around Las Vegas.
19:13This particular bank account
19:15was shared between Daniel
19:17and his second ex-wife, Bogdana.
19:19They just hadn't gotten around
19:20to relinquishing control to one or the other.
19:23And so, these particular withdrawals
19:25were kind of uncharacteristic
19:27for Daniel or for Bogdana.
19:29And so, they were flagged
19:30as potentially fraudulent.
19:32And so, the bank sent notifications
19:34to both Daniel and Bogdana saying as much.
19:37And so, Bogdana, she gets the messages
19:38that there's been these
19:39potentially fraudulent charges.
19:41She knows it wasn't her.
19:43And so, she calls Daniel,
19:44but Daniel doesn't pick up.
19:45And so, she texts Daniel.
19:47But again, silence from Daniel.
19:49Thinking this was a little bit odd,
19:51Bogdana reached out to Daniel's mother, Christine,
19:54knowing that Daniel and his mom
19:56spoke nearly every day.
19:58And so, she filled the mother in
19:59about what was going on.
20:00And after getting all the information
20:01from Bogdana, Christine would try calling
20:04and texting Daniel, but still got nothing.
20:07And so, she reached out to her granddaughter, Sierra.
20:10And so, she calls Sierra.
20:11Sierra doesn't pick up.
20:12She texts Sierra, asking to speak to Daniel.
20:15And Sierra doesn't get back right away,
20:18but eventually, she responds to Christine.
20:20And the response just said,
20:22His phone has been acting up, but he's okay.
20:24It should be fixed by tomorrow night.
20:26No worries.
20:27Now, Christine was relieved.
20:29So, that's a little bit of a weird text right there.
20:32I don't know.
20:33That sounds a little bit fishy.
20:35To read that her son by tomorrow.
20:37Uh, hey, Sierra.
20:39I'm trying to get a hold of your dad.
20:41Where is he?
20:42No answer.
20:43So, I left her a message to text or call.
20:46His phone has been acting up, but he's okay.
20:48Why, why, why did she text back, but he's okay?
20:52You know?
20:53Like, it's a little weird.
20:55Like, she didn't ask for his well-being.
20:57She's just trying to get a hold of him.
20:59You know?
21:00I don't know.
21:01Maybe I'm just reading into it too much.
21:03Tomorrow night.
21:04No worries.
21:04Now, Christine was relieved to read that her son and her granddaughter were just fine.
21:09But, at the same time, there was just something odd about the fact that she could not get in touch
21:14with her son.
21:15And that Sierra was kind of acting a little bit cagey.
21:18Not answering her phone, which was unlike her.
21:20And then sending a message that didn't quite sound like her.
21:23But, either way, Christine just let it go and figured she would be in touch with her son over the
21:28next 24 hours.
21:29But, the next day, by 10 a.m., when Christine and Bogdana had not heard or seen Daniel,
21:35Christine, again, reached out to her granddaughter, Sierra.
21:38She called her, but she didn't pick up.
21:41And so, she texted Sierra, this time demanding that she put her father on the phone.
21:46But, Sierra did not put her father on the phone.
21:49Instead, after a few minutes, Christine just got another text message that said something to the effect of,
21:55My dad's in the shower, so he can't talk right now.
21:58Christine, at this point, it was like her radar was up.
22:01And she knew there was a real problem.
22:04She didn't know what it was, but there was a problem.
22:06And someone needed to go over to Daniel's house and make sure he and Sierra were okay.
22:12And so, Christine contacted a woman named Peggy Newman, who was Daniel's landlord and a close friend of Daniel.
22:18And she asked Peggy, would you mind going and doing a welfare check at Daniel's house?
22:23And Peggy would say, of course, no problem.
22:25But, I won't be able to get over there for at least several hours.
22:28So, Christine said, no problem.
22:30But, as soon as she hung up, Christine just was so anxious, waiting to find out what was going on
22:35with her son.
22:36She just went over at herself.
22:37That at 1.46 p.m., when still Peggy was out running errands and had not done the welfare check
22:42yet,
22:43Christine just called the police and asked them to do a welfare check.
22:47Yeah, I need a welfare check.
22:50On who are we doing a welfare check?
22:53For my son.
22:55He's been missing for two days.
22:56His work's called, his family's called, I've called, his ex-wife's called, and there's nobody answering the phone and nobody,
23:08there's nothing.
23:10Nobody can get a hold of him.
23:11And then his work called and they can't get a hold of him.
23:14And it's really, really, he just doesn't act like this.
23:17But, as it would happen, just a few minutes after Christine placed that 911 call, Peggy Newman and a friend
23:25of hers actually arrived at Daniel's residence ahead of the police.
23:29And so, when they got there, they hopped out of their car.
23:31They walked up to the front door.
23:33And as they're knocking on the front door, they look over into the driveway and they see Daniel's car, which
23:38was a blue Nissan Altima, is not there.
23:40And so, they're knocking, they're seeing the car's not there, it's totally silent in the house.
23:45And so, Peggy, she reaches down and she tries the doorknob and she finds it's unlocked.
23:49So, she twists the knob, she opens the door, and she...
23:52Just left the door unlocked?
23:54Like, that's what we out here doing?
23:56I mean, she's Louise.
23:59See, and this is part of the thing, too.
24:02People not using the locks on their doors.
24:08I don't get it.
24:09Why don't people lock their doors?
24:12And listen, maybe something happened and whoever did whatever left it unlocked, but we've checked out plenty of stories where
24:24somebody didn't lock their door and something bad happened to them.
24:28If you're not going to lock your door, just take it off the hinges.
24:30It's virtually pointless to have it on if you're not going to lock it.
24:36You just might as well just take it off the hinges.
24:38Just let people walk in.
24:39They can't anyway.
24:40You don't lock it.
24:41Sheesh.
24:42It has a lock on it.
24:43Please use it, people.
24:44Please.
24:47She twists the knob, she opens the door, and she and her friend step inside.
24:52Just minutes later, Peggy and her friend would come running out of the house, and Peggy would call 911 because
24:58the police weren't there yet,
24:59and she would frantically try to describe to the dispatcher what she had just seen.
25:04Twenty-four hours earlier, a man and a woman were spotted on surveillance camera withdrawing cash from several Las Vegas
25:11ATMs using Daniel's debit card.
25:14Those were the withdrawals that had been flagged as fraudulent and tipped Bogdana off that something could be wrong here.
25:21After those withdrawals, the man and the woman were spotted again on camera.
25:25I'm guessing the man and the woman are the first ex-wife and her lover at that point.
25:38That's who I'm going to guess.
25:40Let me know what y'all think.
25:42Don't cheat.
25:42Comment below who you think these two individuals are.
25:47Let me know.
25:49Camera going into a Las Vegas supermarket called Winco, and inside, they would purchase a few items using Daniel's debit
25:56card,
25:56and then they would leave, and they would head to a Las Vegas Home Depot, where once again, they'd be
26:01caught on camera purchasing a few items using Daniel's debit card.
26:04Real photo of one of the suspects at the Las Vegas Home Depot?
26:09Huh.
26:11It's a real photo.
26:14Okay.
26:15After these purchases, the man and the woman would make their way to Daniel's residence, where they would spend the
26:20night.
26:21The following morning, Daniel's blue Nissan Altima car was spotted leaving Las Vegas at around 10.20 in the morning.
26:28That was about three and a half hours before Peggy Newman and her friend went into Daniel's residence and then
26:34quickly turned around and ran out and called 911.
26:37When police finally did arrive at Daniel's residence on April 9th, and they pulled up and they saw Peggy Newman
26:44and her friend totally ashen-faced and pacing on the sidewalk,
26:48the police would get out, they would talk to those two, they would go inside of Daniel's residence, and they
26:53would see the horrible thing that Peggy and her friend had also seen.
26:57But the police could not make sense of what they were seeing.
27:01It really just did not add up.
27:03Then, four days later, on April 13th, police in Salt Lake City, Utah, just happened to find the man and
27:11the woman that were seen on camera on April 8th using Daniel's debit card and going to the Winco and
27:17the Home Depot.
27:18The police, they just happened to find these people on a bus in Salt Lake City.
27:22And after going through the man and the woman's belongings, including their phones, the police would discover a video that
27:29these two had taken of themselves in the last couple of days that explained what was inside of Daniel's house.
27:36Oh, no, no, no, no, that's this story?
27:44What?
27:46No.
27:48I've heard, I've seen little clips of this story before.
27:52I had no clue.
27:55This is it?
27:56Oh, my gosh.
28:00I don't even have to see.
28:02Oh, yeah.
28:04Wow.
28:06Wow, it was the daughter.
28:08Oh, my goodness.
28:15Welcome back to our YouTube channel.
28:17After murdering you.
28:19They literally, they literally upload, oh, my.
28:23After murdering somebody.
28:25Whoa, don't put that on the camera.
28:31It was worth it.
28:33The young man and the young woman you just saw joking on camera about murdering someone were 18-year-old
28:39Aaron Guerrero and his girlfriend, 16-year-old Sierra Halseth, Daniel's youngest daughter.
28:46Allegedly, on the morning of April 8th, after Aaron and Sierra had pulled all that money out of all those
28:52different ATMs, they had gone to the Winco and purchased disposable gloves and bleach and drop cloths.
28:57And they had gone to the Home Depot and purchased a circular saw and saw blades and lighter fluid.
29:03And then they headed for Daniel's house.
29:05It's not been made public what actually occurred inside of Daniel's residence, but we can make a few assumptions.
29:12Daniel adored his children.
29:14There was no act there.
29:15He truly loved his children.
29:17And so it would never cross his mind that one of his children or one of their significant others would
29:23ever want to hurt him.
29:24And so when Sierra and Aaron went inside of Daniel's house, it would have been extremely easy to sneak up
29:31on Daniel or just kind of catch him off guard because he's not looking to put up a fight.
29:36He thinks he's around people that love him and respect him because he loves and respects them.
29:41But however the young couple did it, they would inflict up to 70 stab wounds in Daniel's body, most of
29:48which were in the back of his head.
29:49And then at some point during this vicious attack, they stuffed Daniel into a sleeping bag and right in the
29:56middle of the living room of his house, they doused him in lighter fluid and lit him on fire.
30:01It's unclear what exactly killed Daniel or for how long he was actually conscious and aware of what was happening
30:07before he died.
30:08But it's very possible that Daniel had at least a small moment in time where he recognized his beloved little
30:16angel, Sierra, was actively trying to kill him.
30:19After Daniel was either dead or incapacitated, the young couple tossed their pocket knives into the sink and then they
30:26retrieved their circular saw as well as a chainsaw and began attempting to dismember Daniel's body.
30:32But they were unable to do it and so they just kind of set the saws down in the middle
30:37of Daniel's home with bits of Daniel stuck on the grooves of the saw.
30:41At that point, Aaron and Sierra attempted to destroy evidence inside of the house by scrubbing everything down with bleach,
30:48but it was totally ineffective.
30:59And so at that point, the couple decided they would just burn the entire house down and that would destroy
31:04all the evidence.
31:05And so around the time that Christine texted Sierra and demanded to speak to Daniel and Sierra wrote back, oh,
31:12he's in the shower.
31:13Or he can't talk to you right now.
31:14That was probably around the time that Sierra and Aaron were actively trying to burn the house down.
31:20But the fire they set was just not very big and it kind of smoldered out.
31:24And so they would just kind of leave all of the evidence all over Daniel's house and they would leave
31:28Daniel's destroyed and burned body kind of propped up against the door leading into the garage.
31:33And they would just leave the house, hop in Daniel's blue Nissan Altima.
31:37And at around 1020 in the morning, they would leave Las Vegas.
31:40The only reason police were able to apprehend Aaron and Sierra in Salt Lake City a few days later was
31:47because the couple had made their way to Salt Lake City and hopped on a bus and Aaron had not
31:52paid the fare.
31:53He had just snuck onto the bus.
31:54And so at some point, the transit authority had come through the bus and they were asking people to show
31:59their tickets and Aaron didn't have one.
32:02And so when they discovered this, they asked for his name.
32:04And when they entered his name into their system, it popped up that the Las Vegas PD were actively searching
32:09for him.
32:10While only Sierra knows why she turned on the one man who would forever love her and would forever support
32:16her, what we do know is around the time that Daniel and Elizabeth had gone back to court and they
32:22were having those virtual meetings with the judge to decide who was going to have custody over Sierra, Sierra had
32:28begun dating Aaron.
32:29And she had fallen totally in love with him and it seemed very much like Aaron had totally fallen in
32:35love with her.
32:36And somehow Daniel caught wind of the fact that Aaron and Sierra were planning to run away secretly and go
32:43move to Los Angeles.
32:44And so when Daniel heard this, he told his ex-wife Elizabeth and then they would go and talk to
32:50Aaron's parents and they would tell them about this plan to run away.
32:54And both sets of parents talked and decided it was in both child's best interest if they stopped seeing each
33:00other.
33:01And so starting in early 2021, the parents forbade their child from seeing each other and that was it.
33:07But even though all the parents were involved in this decision, because Sierra was at the time living with Daniel,
33:15it seemed like she focused her rage about this decision on Daniel because he was the one kind of enforcing
33:22the rule.
33:22And so it's believed in April of that year, Sierra decided she would just have to kill her father in
33:29order to get her boyfriend back.
33:30In Daniel's obituary, his family very conspicuously left Sierra out, saying that Daniel was survived by two loving children, not
33:40three.
33:41His family has also come out and...
33:43Well, it does say loving.
33:46Last time I checked, if you take somebody off this earth, you didn't really care about them too much.
33:52So...
33:53...survived by two loving children, not three.
33:56His family has also come out and publicly stated that they hope Sierra and her boyfriend are given the harshest
34:03penalty allowable by law.
34:04Despite the existence of this confession video that Aaron and Sierra took of themselves talking about murdering Daniel, they have
34:12pled not guilty and are currently awaiting trial.
34:17So, that's gonna do it.
34:19If you got something out of this episode...
34:22Holy...
34:23Wow.
34:25Pure pressure at its finest.
34:27I'm sure...
34:29And I don't know...
34:30I don't know this for a fact.
34:31This is just pure speculation.
34:33This is just an assumption.
34:36But I'm assuming that...
34:38Sierra loved her father dearly.
34:41And once she met that guy...
34:44And they were separated...
34:47The guy came up with the idea of doing what happened.
34:51And because Sierra cared so much, she went along with it, bought into it, and that's what happened.
34:59I mean, that could be false.
35:02I don't know.
35:02That's just my assumption.
35:04You guys can let me know what you think in the comment section.
35:07How you think this all played out.
