Subway surfing is not a game. Riding on top of trains or outside subway cars can cause deadly injuries in seconds. Trains move fast, bridges and tunnels have low beams, and one slip can mean death or lifelong disability.

2018–2022 combined: 5 deaths total
2023: 5 deaths
2024: 6 deaths
2025: at least 5 deaths reported by late 2025
2026: new deaths continue, including the recent 14-year-old boy killed on the J train

From 2023 through 2025 alone, at least 16 people died subway surfing in NYC.
