A unique children's orchestra in the rural town of Budai in Chiayi county is bringing together elementary students from five different schools to perform all across the country. The group faces a critical shortage of music teachers willing to travel long distances, but the young musicians continue to find confidence on national stages.

00:06These young musicians are part of a local orchestra in the small town of Boudai in southern Taiwan.
00:12Without their instruments, there are students from five different elementary schools.
00:16But together, they're among Taiwan's youngest touring musicians, performing across the country.
00:22Young flottist Chiu Jun Chang is a proud member.
00:30And you can stand on the stage and have a successful achievement.
00:35Putting together musical talents and resources for the orchestra is Xiao Yu Pei,
00:40who's been working to bring arts and music into this rural part of Taiwan.

00:53And I've been here for some kind of youth to share with the kids.

01:00The biggest obstacle, not enough music teachers.
01:04Those who stay say few of them are willing to travel long distances to teach in these schools,
01:09even with a higher salary.
01:12Principal Huang Kaijie says schools have subsidies for teachers' travels,
01:16all to offer children opportunities that could change their lives.
