Thaïlande (l’homme malade de l’Asie)

Couplet 1

00:09Hi everyone, by the way, that's really me virtually and that's not my bed behind me.
00:14and this isn't my office and also I don't have a large chest but it's my
00:18head.
00:19Today I'm giving you an update on the economic situation in Thailand. We're clearly seeing a gradual decline which
00:27raises quite a few questions and concerns.
00:30Here is the gist of it and what it means for you Thais.
00:35There is talk of a persistent slowdown. Thailand is sometimes described as the sick man of Asia.
00:43For 2026, the growth forecast is around 1.6%, far behind neighboring countries which are showing between 5%
00:52and 8%.
00:53In other words, the economy is struggling to adapt to the new realities of the global market.
00:59Exports represent 60% to 70% of GDP, but key sectors such as automobiles are vices.
01:08By 2025, automobile exports had fallen by approximately 8.2%, and the domestic market was at its lowest point.
01:16for 15 years.
01:18This strong dependence makes the economy very sensitive to the vagaries of international markets.
01:23Tourism, another important driver of growth, is declining. The number of foreign visitors is down by approximately 7%.
01:30and you're approaching 33 million only, far from pre-pandemic levels.
01:35Competition from neighbours Vietnam and Malaysia, and security issues are weighing on the country's attractiveness.
01:44Household debt is approaching 90% of GDP, which is hindering consumption and investment.
01:52Added to this are stagnant wages, which makes reviving consumption even more difficult.
01:58Population aging, reduced available workforce and increasing public health spending.
02:04All of this puts a strain on the economy and may deter some foreign investors.
02:10Your neighbors are becoming more attractive thanks to a younger workforce and more dynamic growth.
02:17This attracts investors and may reinforce Thailand's relative decline.
02:22The model focused on price competitiveness and low added value is no longer sufficient for rapid growth.
02:31It is time to rethink the approach to adapt to today's economic and technological realities.
02:38Ultimately, we see a dynamic of gradual decline, low growth, and strong dependence on exports.
02:46Declining tourism, high debt and structural challenges are hindering future development.
02:52I am addressing the person who said that Cambodia is in decline.
02:56I think you made a mistake; you underestimated the Cambodian people.
03:01I'm sorry for you, but that's life.
03:04So you see, you should never underestimate your neighbor.
03:08See you soon for more info, friends.
03:30Hey friends, listen carefully to the story.
03:34A kingdom that falters behind the lights and the glory.
03:40The numbers fall slowly, like a tired sky.
03:45And beneath the big smiles, the future seems uncertain.
03:52Thailand, the man is sick and from Asia.
03:54Your reflection cracks at the edge of improvement.
03:56Between ports, heads, and finished seasons.
03:59You're still looking for France in the middle of the night.
04:02Thailand, the man is sick and from Asia.
04:04The maps have changed in the grand scheme of geography.
04:06And those that we used to look at in terms of price.
04:09They are returning today; challenging the established order is yet to come.
04:21Exports are keeping the country afloat.
04:25But when the steel falls silent, everything trembles step by step.
04:30Yesterday's engines lose their bloom and their shadow.
04:36And the market is losing steam as it counts those who are absent.
04:42Thailand, the man is sick and from Asia.
04:44Your reflection cracks at the edge of improvement.
04:47Between ports, heads, and finished seasons.
04:49You're still looking for France in the middle of the night.
04:52Thailand, the man is sick and from Asia.
04:55The maps have changed in the grand scheme of geography.
04:57And those that we used to look at in terms of price.
04:59They are back today, challenging the established order.
05:11Wages are stagnating, households are struggling.
05:14The burden of debt is slowly eating away at the hand.
05:16Time thins the crowd, the years deepen the ranks.
05:19And the future demands a different kind of courage.
05:22Her twin bends under the impact of the machines.
05:24You can't win for long with yesterday's rules.
05:27We need to build higher than mere discipline.
05:29And to stop believing that crossing it is a border.
05:32To the one who said that the camp is your dream.
05:35Perhaps you were speaking a little too quickly, my friend.
05:37You don't underestimate a people who stand tall.
05:40History always tempts and surprises until the very end.
05:43I'm sorry we're getting so worked up, but that's life.
05:47Never forget this in writings, in prophecies.
05:51Never despise the one who walks beside you.
05:57Tomorrow, change your partner without asking why.
06:02Hey, no.
06:07Hey, no.
