Brock Vereen and Alex Curry deliver a hard, unfiltered truth about the future of the Purple and Gold following the historic $10 billion organizational takeover: Ending the "Mom and Pop" Buss family era is the best thing that could have ever happened to the Los Angeles Lakers.

00:00This is a really big offseason for the Lakers and my question is are they finally getting
00:04the Dodgers treatment and the reason we ask that obviously is because they're in a completely
00:09new era not because of what they have to do this offseason but because they are now owned
00:15majority owner of the Dodgers ownership group you have Mark Walters who is bringing over that
00:21Dodgers way of business and that winning and championship mentality like they are the Dodgers
00:27are in the midst of a dynasty right now and the Lakers just got bought by that ownership
00:33group I mean Jeannie Buss still has a little bit in there but majority of the ownership
00:38is the Mark Walters group and he's bringing over Andrew Friedman Dodgers GM and kind of
00:47how they constructed and put that entire Dodgers front office and team together to help reshape
00:55the Lakers front office the analytics the medical the performance system and that's why I think
01:00this off scene is is going to be very telling for the Lakers future especially you guys for
01:06Rob Palenka under this new ownership because he's a core piece of the Lakers bus and Kobe
01:14era right because he was Kobe's agent and before being the GM of the Lakers he was hired by the
01:22bus family he got an extension by the bus family which when you think about like oh they can't
01:28get rid of him he has an extension like no that was just a homie deal because no matter what
01:34happens
01:34that means they're either gonna have to buy him out he's gonna get paid or if they decide to keep
01:39them they kind of have to decide like even though I mean this ownership group has so much money I
01:45don't
01:45think buying out is ever gonna be an issue but I think this is them looking at him and they
01:51announced
01:51they're gonna be hiring two assistant GMs under Rob Palenka I think this is almost like their safety
01:58net like okay we're giving you the tools right and everything that we know it takes to become a dynasty
02:06and win a championship now we're giving them to you this is the off season where you got a lot
02:11of
02:11work to do like you are gonna have to earn that contract earn that money show us what you got
02:16and I
02:17believe in him like he definitely has the experience but is it going to be enough for this Dodgers way
02:22of
02:22winning completely fair question and change is always difficult a new owner in any business is
02:29is always a confusing time yeah so from a Lakers perspective we kind of get caught up in the glitz
02:39and
02:39glamour of the Lakers and what the bus family did not just to the Lakers but to sports and entertainment
02:45as a whole it is majority it has majority been a mom and pop organization like the bus family ran
02:54this
02:54like you would run a deli on the corner that your grandma passed down to your mom that passed down
03:00to you so in comes the big money Mark Walter who says I bought the Dodgers a little over a
03:06decade ago
03:06I threw a bunch of money at it I didn't run it like a mom and pop I ran it
03:11like a corporation
03:12and now that I own the Lakers yeah that's how we're gonna run things here so as far as the
03:16bus
03:16family Jeannie bus as we understand is the only member of the of the of her line the the bus
03:24line
03:25that is still have it has a desk it has input and has things so they were getting phased out
03:30now Mark Walter says hey Rob Palenka I don't know you yeah you were already here when I bought this
03:38team
03:39this is a tryout so what does Mark Walter do he relies on what he does know Andrew Friedman who
03:44runs the show
03:45for the Dodgers before the Tampa Bay and Farhan Zaidi who used to be the Dodgers GM 2014 to 2018
03:53and now works for the Dodgers again as a special assistant but he spent time with the A's and the
03:58and the Giants he brings in two of his baseball guys to facilitate the interviews that Rob Palenka
04:05is orchestrating for his assistant GM so we ask are the Lakers becoming the Dodgers
04:12Mark Walter thinks that he can just run it the same way and we have no proof as far as
04:16if that's
04:17true or not but this is a big experiment and as great as it can go this also could be
04:22a disaster
04:23yeah but in the sense of when you're taking like a family-run business and I kind of compare this
04:31to
04:31if we're gonna do baseball the Angels and the Dodgers okay right because the Angels is still
04:38very much a Artie Moreno family-run business and he's kept it that way from day one and then you
04:45have the Dodgers who wasn't it was a nasty wild transition when it was the family business sold
04:53to then this may have been some bankruptcy here yeah yeah yeah but now it is run like a fortune
05:01500
05:02well-oiled machine and because of that they are in the midst of a dynasty and so when you look
05:11at it
05:11that way it doesn't it's not rocket science okay what it takes to build a championship team and
05:19franchise starts from the ground up and it starts taking care of your product and what's your product
05:24your product are your players so they're talking about like not just the people behind the scenes
05:31but they're they're talking about updating the facilities the way that they train the players
05:36the way that the players recover and we kind of saw this with Kobe Kobe Bryant separate on his own
05:43than the Lakers because we all knew the crazy stuff that Kobe was doing but he was kind of doing
05:48that on his own so it's almost kind of bringing that mentality of we need to think out of the
05:52box
05:53and we need to bring that to we need to bring that to the Lakers way full-time and you
06:00guys we want
06:00to hear from you so you can call us 855 LA fan you can also get in the chat if
06:06you're on YouTube
06:06producer Shay what are they saying on on YouTube right now it's I'm honestly interested by this because
06:11yesterday our guys Bill Ryder they were saying JJ Reddick's here to stay and Palenka might also
06:17be here to stay but our chat is thinking very differently Mike Gonzalez de Los Angeles Palenka
06:23a lame duck dead man walking over there on the clock with a clock emoji I love the clock emoji
06:29dead meow five our favorite what's up Palenka seems to be too dumb to realize that until he gets out
06:35of
06:35the LeBron business he is set up to fail well so as we kind of talked earlier they're not necessarily
06:43in the LeBron business right now they're in the waiting game and LeBron made it very clear
06:49that he is going to wait and see kind of how free agency comes together with all the teams
06:54and he is only going to be coming back and playing for a team in his 24th season that's going
07:01to be a
07:01contender
