Two more State Railway of Thailand (SRT) operational staff tested positive for drug use and were suspended as Thailand intensifies railway safety checks following the fatal May 16 train-bus crash in Bangkok that killed eight people and injured 33 others.

The train driver involved in the crash had also tested positive for drugs and was charged with reckless driving.

00:08for drug use and were immediately removed from safety-related duties as the agency
00:14steps up screenings following a fatal train bus collision in Bangkok on May 16.
00:20The latest cases were detected during pre-duty drug tests introduced after the crash at the
00:25Asok Dindeng level crossing. The SRT said all 157 employees screened on May 19 tested negative,
00:34but two of the 141 workers tested on May 20 were found positive for illegal substances.
00:41Both employees have been suspended from operational duties pending confirmatory medical tests,
00:47disciplinary proceedings, and rehabilitation measures.
00:51The development comes after the train driver involved in the fatal collision also tested
00:56positive for drugs and was later charged with reckless driving.
