00:00Thank you, Update Kid.
00:02It's Carson Anderson, 97.1.
00:05All right, a couple things here.
00:08Open the show talking about Trajan Langdon's news conference yesterday,
00:11which led to what surprised me, a ton of hostility.
00:14I mean, a ton of hostility.
00:16And, you know, after much discussion here, you know,
00:19we tried to find some middle ground.
00:21I've tried to give you reasons why the hostility is unwarranted.
00:24I also don't think any, like, extreme reaction to what he had to say is
00:29warranted.
00:30I don't think it's cause for celebration either.
00:34But I certainly didn't see it as reason to panic and that the organization
00:39is doomed under Trajan Langdon.
00:42And we gave you all the reasons why earlier in the show.
00:45But there was no triggering moment, Scott.
00:47There was no yelling today.
00:48It was a good exchange of ideas.
00:53Okay.
00:54And then also Brian called.
00:57And talked a little bit about the NFL.
00:59And we'll get back to the NFL, specifically the Lions.
01:02Today at 1220, which free agent makes the most sense for Detroit?
01:09Major website has their idea.
01:11And Scott, it feels like the reporting on NFL free agency is starting to pick up.
01:17I kind of think that things are starting to percolate a little bit.
01:20We might see some signings here.
01:22As everything kind of calms down, there's a first wave of free agency.
01:25There's still good players available.
01:27There's the June 1st date, which is, I think, when the next wave is going to happen.
01:31And that this year is coming on June 1st.
01:34Anyway, we will get to who.
01:36Check my calendar.
01:37You are correct.
01:39We'll get to who's available and who makes sense for Detroit coming up today at 1220.
01:44In the meantime, great satisfaction watching Cleveland blow a 21-point fourth quarter lead with seven and a half minutes
01:54to go.
01:54I'm sorry, Doug.
01:54It was 22 points.
01:56Let's make it even better.
01:57My apologies.
01:59Yes, after the hard and free throw, it was 22.
02:01It could have got to 23.
02:02And it wasn't seven and a half.
02:04It was 752 to go.
02:06It's delicious.
02:08I mean, we know that basketball is a game of runs.
02:11And we talked about it before.
02:12We talked about when the Pistons came back against Orlando.
02:15And I mentioned I was out for dinner with my family.
02:18And I saw the score and talked to my brother about it.
02:20I said, well, it's a halftime score.
02:24You got a whole half to make it up.
02:25I said, it's a different thing when it happens in the fourth quarter.
02:28This was in the fourth quarter.
02:30This was a 22-point lead with under eight to go in the fourth quarter.
02:35And they couldn't hold on.
02:40I can't imagine the meltdown that's happening in Cleveland.
02:43I think it's going one of two ways.
02:44Either people are just ripping their hair out, saying it sucks, fire everybody.
02:49Or there'll be some people that say, well, I mean, they did go seven games against Detroit.
02:56They're just tired because they had to get right back at it.
02:58And, you know, the Knicks have had all this time off.
03:01And the Knicks did.
03:01And they had to shake off the rust.
03:03And finally, they did in the fourth quarter.
03:05And boy, did they.
03:06Was it a 44 to 11 run to finish the fourth quarter and finish the overtime?
03:11Yeah.
03:12You know, you brought this up and you're right.
03:15Sometimes you flip a game on.
03:17And let's face it.
03:19These are the two teams that eliminated the Pistons each of the last two years.
03:23There is no love lost between the fans of Detroit and these teams and their fan bases.
03:30And, you know, we can get into the they both major in unethical scoring and highly irritating teams.
03:39And at the end, they're playing one another.
03:41And I thought it was something that I was not going to want to watch.
03:45And now I realize there's great satisfaction in watching and celebrating every failure.
03:52Yes.
03:54I don't even I don't I still don't know who I want to win this series.
03:58I enjoyed watching both teams struggle mightily at times.
04:04I'm just going to lean into whoever loses this series.
04:08Kind of.
04:09I think I was surprised at how I derived enjoyment out of Cleveland blowing a 22 point lead with 752
04:21to go.
04:22Now, something that I enjoyed and then after looking at it a little bit longer is also going to bother
04:27me.
04:28Things like watching James Harden try to foul bait and not getting the call, which is awesome.
04:33But at the same time, why did they give him the call against Detroit all that time?
04:38But I'll I'll let that go.
04:41Nothing.
04:41You can't you can't, you know, relive that whole part portion of it.
04:46All I can do now is enjoy the fact that that SOB is kicking his feet forward every time, landing
04:53on his side, trying to draw the foul.
04:55And it's not happening with the same regularity and frequency that did against the Pistons and watching, you know, there's
05:03old Brunson Harden thing with both guys is just the most unethical players that you can find in terms of
05:08how they go about scoring.
05:10It's great when the officials like, nope, not up in here.
05:13Kang, did you find yourself enjoying last night?
05:17Kang, as a basketball fan, it was fascinating to watch, you know, how it all unfolded.
05:21But yeah, I mean, I had a good time.
05:23It wasn't like, yeah, one of those unbearable.
05:26This is unwatchable.
05:27This is not basketball.
05:28You know, I enjoyed it as just as a basketball fan.
05:32And did you find yourself actually rooting for anybody or rooting against anybody?
05:37It was funny watching Cleveland get, you know, happy to Cleveland.
05:41I'm not going to lie because not like I went into the game rooting for Cleveland.
05:44But once it started happening, I'm like, is this really happening?
05:47Yeah.
05:47See how you guys like it.
05:49But then it's like, you're like, did I just root for the Knicks?
05:52No, I rooted for the downfall of another team.
05:53I didn't root for the other team.
05:55I just rooted for a downfall.
05:56Yeah.
05:56How do you process that?
05:58Like, you're not celebrating what the Knicks did.
06:01No, absolutely not.
06:03Yeah.
06:03Surprisingly, surprisingly satisfying.
06:08Okay.
06:09All right.
06:10So, and let's see who blows it in game two.
06:14And we can really go all negative here.
06:17We'll go over to the dark side and rooting against people.
06:20Just, there's nothing wrong with that.
06:23Team that beat you, each team beat the Pistons the last two years in the playoffs.
06:27I'm great.
06:29I hope it's an epic collapse every game.
06:32Yeah.
06:32It was fantastic watching Cleveland choke on it.
06:36And then I hope New York chokes on it next time.
06:39Here's what I hope.
06:40I hope next time, game two, that the Knicks have a chance to win it at the end and with
06:46a three-point shot and there's a clear foul and it's not called.
06:51Ooh.
06:51Wouldn't that be fantastic?
06:53Oh, like from the corner?
06:54Yes.
06:55Where the player, a Knick, gets hammered and there's no call?
06:59There's no call.
06:59No call.
07:00Sorry.
07:01We're going to swallow the whistle at the end of games.
07:04We're going to let the players decide.
07:05We don't want the officials to decide that.
07:07And Cleveland's handed another game because an official doesn't.
07:10It's okay.
07:10Then game three.
07:12A Cavs chasing after a loose ball.
07:15Yes.
07:15And gets clearly tripped and there's no call.
07:17No call.
07:18I like the way you're mapping this out.
07:20248-539-9797.
07:22Tony is on 97.
07:23Hello, Tony.
07:25Hi, guys.
07:26What's up?
07:26I feel the exact same way.
07:28I don't have a team.
07:30I can't root for either of those teams.
07:32No way.
07:33However, the thing that gets me to 51 is Dan Gilbert.
07:38I think for Dan Gilbert and Dan Gilbert alone, I got to root for Cleveland because of all he's
07:45done for Detroit and the generosity that he has in his heart.
07:49So I got to go with Cleveland, not because of anything other than Dan Gilbert.
07:56Tony, you take us over here to the deep end of the pool.
07:59We're in the shallow end right now, splashing around and having fun.
08:02And damn it, you made it serious.
08:05Well, that's my job.
08:08Yeah, I mean, I think it rubs people the wrong way that Dan Gilbert busts the people up from
08:12Cleveland to wear in the beat Detroit shirts.
08:15No, not because it was Dan Gilbert.
08:17If it was anybody else, yeah, maybe.
08:20But I have nothing bad to say about or even think about Dan Gilbert.
08:26The guy is a saint.
08:29Sounds like maybe an employee there, but anyways, no, I think one of the reasons why you felt
08:34weird when Dan Gilbert busts those fans to Detroit was because he's supposed to be a
08:38Detroit guy.
08:39And I think that makes it a little weird.
08:41Like if it was any other owner, you'd be like, yeah, that's what owner would do if you
08:44could.
08:44Right.
08:44But Gilbert has his footprint all over the city and he knows how much that loss would
08:50hurt us.
08:50And it did.
08:52So I, you know, the one thing to bust them, but it's another thing to hand them a beat Detroit
08:56t-shirts to at the home games.
09:00I'm going to shelve the thoughts.
09:02I wasn't going to bring it up again.
09:04I think I took a bit of a justifiable beating that day about this, but I'm also going to
09:10sit back and see what the league thinks.
09:12Cause I think when the owners get together, I'm not sure owners would be down with the
09:18opposing owner taking over a stadium and, and you know, the home court's supposed to
09:24matter and any owner would be vulnerable to this.
09:27If another owner wanted, they could buy out a good portion of the stadium.
09:31And I don't think any owner would want that to happen.
09:34Well, but, but there's nothing unethical about it.
09:38There's nothing against the rules.
09:40I just wonder if they might say, Hey, we're not going to do that again.
09:43Well, I wonder how, I mean, how many towns can actually do that?
09:46How many?
09:46It's not a lot.
09:47Yeah, you're right.
09:47I mean, a lot, but it just, when are those actually going to happen when Detroit, you're
09:53not going to see the Portland trailblazers buy out Orlando's arena.
09:56No.
09:56Yeah.
09:58Uh, all right, let's get to some lion stuff.
10:00Which free agent is the best fit in Detroit?
10:03Somebody tells us we'll get to that at 1220 here on 97.1.
