00:00And we're all just celebrating now that Jason Kidd is gone.
00:04And, of course, if you had 105.3 The Fan on, if you were toloing like you should be, tune
00:08in to Gbag.
00:09You heard that news come out just like that.
00:12Well, actually.
00:13Live on the air.
00:15You did?
00:15I know.
00:16I was doing a full of Sandler.
00:17Oh, you were doing the well.
00:18The well, actually.
00:20I thought you were going to be like, were you not listening?
00:22Did you listen at a different time?
00:25But, no, it is.
00:27So you're thrilled about this.
00:29This is a great day.
00:31This is, you know, I, you don't always believe in the justice system, but I believe in Masai Ujiri's justice
00:38system.
00:39Okay.
00:40This needed to happen.
00:41Yeah, I mean, I'm not surprised it happened.
00:47No.
00:47I'm not surprised.
00:51Are you anything, then?
00:52No, it's like, it does, I was, I saw it and I was like, whoa, okay, whoa, that's a whoa.
00:59Like, I wasn't expecting it to happen, but I'm also not totally shocked that it happened.
01:03I, I don't know.
01:05When we heard Masai Ujiri talk, he had, because you were out when he had his press conference.
01:12And Sean Sharif is out today.
01:13He's attending kindergarten graduation.
01:16So, everybody congratulate him on.
01:18By the way, 15 years I've known that guy.
01:22Uh-huh.
01:23I did, I'm proud.
01:24I did not expect him to miss a day of work for kindergarten graduation.
01:28He will never do this again.
01:30He did it last year, did he not?
01:31No, I'm saying he will never do this again now that he's missing the Jason Kidd news.
01:36I'm dead serious.
01:37He was.
01:37We've got to go through and find what he's missed just by being out.
01:40He missed the Luka day.
01:41He missed Luka.
01:41And that's the thing.
01:42It wasn't even like he was out for a full week.
01:44He missed those days.
01:46He missed the day of reaction for Luka.
01:48He missed the day of reaction for Jason Kidd.
01:51When Sean's going to be out for just one day, as long as it's planned and it's not R.I
01:55.P. Sean's butt.
01:56It's a, it's a, it's a big sports day.
01:57It's going to be a big sports day.
01:59We got the Masai Ujiri news.
02:00You were out.
02:02There's always, what I can say for certain is that if somebody's out, we're going to get big Mavericks news.
02:06And so, I don't know.
02:08If you, if you want a sale of a team, Sean may have to take off a day next week.
02:13I don't know.
02:13Might have to.
02:15Yeah.
02:15I never thought he would miss a day of work for a graduate.
02:17He used to, he mocked, he mocked me and Troy Hughes for doing that.
02:21But here he is.
02:23Life, life is a, time is a flat circle.
02:25It changes.
02:27Life obviously changes.
02:28And this is, I think specifically, he had the little girl.
02:31Yes.
02:31Even though this is for the boy, this is the little girl softening him, as we've talked about a lot.
02:34Yes, even though it is for the boy.
02:36Okay.
02:36So, yeah, I was not surprised that this happened.
02:39I was also, again, like I said, not, not surprised.
02:41I had a whoa moment.
02:44I was a little, I guess, maybe surprised at the timing that happened, like in the, you know,
02:48right before game one of the East final, the day after.
02:51I was like, yeah, they probably, the NBA probably doesn't love this.
02:55But you, nobody.
02:56Especially the run the NBA's had in these playoffs, because they get another great finish last night.
03:02Yeah, they had a great finish.
03:03It was, it was a terrible 42 minutes.
03:06And then a, just a tremendous finish.
03:08I think news filtered down to Jalen Brunson in the middle of the fourth quarter.
03:11Hey, did you hear Jason Kidd got fired?
03:13You got all excited?
03:14This is, I, I'll take this completely seriously.
03:17First off, before I jump into some of these.
03:21So, by the way, if the Knicks had lost that game and then lost the series, Brunson's going
03:24to have, would have had Jason as his coach next year.
03:27Before I jump into just some broader thoughts, and then we get into the fan text reaction,
03:32877-811-053.
03:34877-811-053.
03:35We'll get your reaction all morning.
03:37Peyton Russell, your thoughts on the exit of Jason Kidd.
03:42And did this need to happen?
03:44It needed to happen.
03:45Look, the goal is to get rid of everyone that was involved in the Luka trade.
03:48And you're one step closer.
03:50There's one more guy.
03:52One more guy at the very top.
03:53I don't think it happens anytime soon with Patrick Dumont.
03:57But you got rid of Nico.
03:58You got rid of Jason Kidd.
04:00You got to keep going.
04:01Anyone involved in that Luka trade has to be gone.
04:03And it's, I don't know about you, Chop.
04:07I think there is a little bit of a sense.
04:09People don't like Patrick Dumont right now.
04:11So, that's still something that he's going to have to work uphill against.
04:16Okay?
04:17They're coming around.
04:18I think most people give him, not a pass, but give him a little bit of a lighter sentence.
04:29He didn't know.
04:30Because they just go, he wasn't a basketball player.
04:33He signed off on something he thought basketball people were telling him needed to happen.
04:37I don't blame him.
04:39Now, like, you could sit here and say, don't you have the common sense to know you can't do that?
04:43And the answer is, no, he didn't.
04:45No, if you don't know.
04:46He is a little sport.
04:47I still, look, you cannot give him.
04:50That was such a seismic shift that happened when Luka was traded.
04:58And it was, it was the, something, I remember it was John Oliver, a couple days later, was talking about,
05:07if you were to go on, he was doing some segment, he goes, if you were to go on Google
05:10right now, all you're going to see is, you know, why did there's a blah, blah, blah.
05:14And then he goes, and why is everybody so sad about Luka?
05:17And then, like, people who don't know basketball knew this was big.
05:20And so he does not get a pass.
05:24He should have known.
05:25He should have blocked it.
05:27There's negligence involved in allowing your pipeline of information to only come from Nico Harrison.
05:32But we crushed Nico Harrison, and he was rightfully pushed out.
05:38And Jason Kidd, in a way, I almost have less respect for it than what Nico Harrison did.
05:49No one's dying.
05:50They're both, they're both bad.
05:53And Nico Harrison ultimately was the driving force behind it.
05:56But Nico stood behind it, at least, you could say.
05:59Nico put his name on it from day one.
06:01Said, I, this is, yeah, I wanted him out.
06:04This is what I want.
06:05I want to do this.
06:06Kidd kept playing this just almost weaselly, oh, I'm an ally.
06:13No, I'm not.
06:14Like, you know, just, and then the more reports started to come out.
06:16And then, of course, near the end of the season when Mark Cuban went on that podcast and basically said,
06:21yeah, you still got somebody there who helped push him out.
06:24There's a reason Luka Doncic doesn't want to look at him.
06:27And then he pulled an Eli.
06:28And honestly, yeah.
06:30Like, Nico kind of gave him some Archie cover.
06:33Although in this instance, Archie also was in favor of it.
06:35Yeah.
06:35But I almost respect it less.
06:39I hate both of those dispositions that they had.
06:43But I almost respect Jason Kidd's less because Jason Kidd lied in your face the whole time about it.
06:49Nico at least told you he didn't want this.
06:52Yeah.
06:53So I don't, I kind of struggle with, I can let just about anything go if you're good at what
07:03you do.
07:04Mm-hmm.
07:05You know, you could be, you could be like the worst person in the world to me and do the
07:09most unthinkable things.
07:10But if I can take advantage of you and use money and use you to make money, I'm cool with
07:15you.
07:16Or, in Zach's case, if you make Thriller or Man in the Mirror, then he's cool.
07:21Right.
07:21Right.
07:22Absolutely.
07:23Michael Jackson callback.
07:24Yeah.
07:25So, like, I could look past the Luka trade from Kidd's perspective.
07:30If he's this elite head coach, he's going to win some games.
07:33He is.
07:34I could do it.
07:35I could look past it because, to me, they're not connected.
07:38Why?
07:39Probably the tism that you talked about I have yesterday.
07:41I could separate these things.
07:43That said, you know, Jason Kidd's complete inability to ever even, for a second, just own it.
07:52I think people would have had more respect for him if he said, yeah, I was cool with it.
07:56I signed off on it.
07:57Just tell it from the beginning.
07:58Or, again, people were, at first, viewed Kidd in the wake, the immediate aftermath of the trade.
08:05People viewed Kidd as a sympathetic figure.
08:09You remember people talking about, man, you could see him sitting up there at that press conference.
08:12He didn't want to do this.
08:13He had deer in the headlights, man.
08:14Yeah, he didn't want to be part of this.
08:16He's like Sean McVay.
08:17He's like Sean McVay on draft night.
08:18And that was something that I think most people figured Kidd didn't want to be part of it initially.
08:25And I remember about a week after McMahon said something on TV.
08:31I know he didn't say it on radio because he doesn't want to come on radio job.
08:35But McMahon said something on TV where he said, you know, and Jason Kidd, and let's not forget Jason Kidd
08:42in all this.
08:42I know they said he wasn't part of it.
08:44I'm not so sure of that.
08:46And that was the first kind of hint we got.
08:47And then more and more over time, it became clear.
08:49Yeah, there's no way you didn't know this could have been stirring.
08:55And that's what was so frustrating is that it's just like, man, you kind of duped everyone into thinking you
09:03were completely hands off.
09:04I've talked about this on the air before.
09:06One of the things that caused Mike McCarthy to get in a hole with some of the players with the
09:14Cowboys at one point was when they traded Amari Cooper.
09:18And a lot of guys liked Amari Cooper, right?
09:21Mike McCarthy was a big part of pushing Amari Cooper out.
09:24And then when the deal happened, he went up.
09:28I'm just as surprised as you guys are.
09:30What?
09:31You know, I didn't want him gone.
09:33And a lot of guys were like, if you're going to do it, stand behind it, at least, because this
09:38is the don't even I don't even respect that.
09:41Same sort of thing with Kidd.
09:43You don't respect what ultimately turned out to be, I think, cowardice in the way that he reacted.
09:52Yeah, it was not handled right.
09:54It was handled very, very poorly.
09:55Now, the Fantex is bringing in, you know, some decent points when it comes to defending Kidd or defending Dumont,
10:03really.
10:04It's that, you know, Kidd may have had an okay with trading Luka.
10:11It was the return.
10:12The return is on Nico.
10:13The return's not on Kidd.
10:15Yeah, I don't know.
10:15I think he really did want Anthony Davis.
10:17I don't know that.
10:18He may have.
10:19He may have wanted Anthony Davis.
10:21He may have thought, I should have had two extra picks.
10:23Or I should have gotten Dalton Connect in a pick or whatever.
10:25But I think he definitely knew AD for Luka was the core of the trade.
10:30I think he absolutely knew what the core of the trade was.
10:32The ancillary stuff that remains to be seen.
10:36Also, people are saying, how can you give Dumont a pass?
10:41He should have known to ask Mark.
10:44And my answer to that is, I think Nico poisoned him so much to not trust Mark that he couldn't
10:50go to Mark.
10:51Because then, Mark would have blown up the deal.
10:54So, Mark would have gone on a podcast or posted on social media, hey, Mav fans, this is what's going
11:00to happen.
11:01Stop this.
11:03And then the trade never happens.
11:04Oh, he would have torpedoed the trade.
11:07And Nico had to poison him to believe that that was the only way he could do it.
11:12Everything we have heard about how that relationship developed,
11:18Nico Harrison had a plan in mind of how he was going to corner Patrick Dumont and become his only
11:23advisor.
11:23And it worked.
11:25He was very effective in doing that.
11:27Tim McMahon's article that we went through a couple months ago that kind of laid that out after Nico Harrison
11:32was pushed out.
11:33It made it clear.
11:33Like, Nico was walling people off.
11:36And I got your ear.
11:37And I'm the only advisor.
11:39And Patrick Dumont blindly trusted that.
11:42And that's still on Patrick Dumont.
11:44But the credit that's deserved is, number one, it's to the Dallas Mavericks fan base.
11:53The Dallas Mavericks fan base has made so much of the changes post-Luca that have happened.
11:59The resets that have happened.
12:01And that's in large part from the Mavericks fan base forcing them to do it.
12:06And it shows the power of what a collected fan base can still do, even in the modern era when
12:12it comes to sports.
12:13You can put the pressure on an organization to do something.
12:15You could.
12:16And Mavericks fans did that.
12:17So, Mavericks fans deserve the majority of the credit, in my mind.
12:22But Patrick Dumont has seemingly done research to find out who are basketball people I can put in place and
12:30done his best to get away from touching anything.
12:34Almost just like, all right, cool, cool, cool.
12:35All right, Masai Ujiri, you go here, you do this.
12:37All right, we're going to put this guy over here.
12:39We're going to make these changes.
12:40But regardless, it's a happy day.
12:43And we're going to be talking about it a lot today.
12:46You're going to be hearing a lot of discussion about the Jason Kidd firing, just like you've heard for the
12:52last several hours.
12:53Because, like I said, if you were popped on a G-bag, you heard it instantly.
12:55So, you had a couple hours to react right there before the Rangers game last night.
12:59Rangers won 10-0.
13:01I don't think that's a coincidence.
13:03I don't think Kamar Rocker goes seven and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball if Jason Kidd is still employed
13:10by the time he takes the hill last night in the second inning.
13:13I think that was absolutely.
13:14His slider was working.
13:16At a rate we hadn't seen a lot of.
13:18Not, we have, but that was really, really effective.
13:22We don't normally see that in Colorado.
13:25You know, the ball's not moving like that in Colorado.
13:28Hangs a little bit more.
13:29Except on a day when God smiles down on you and says,
13:32Well done, my good and faithful servant, for getting rid of Jason Kidd.
