00:00From an atypical bathroom to a modern 8.5 square meter space with a large shower and sea view,
00:06a double sink and a separate toilet.
00:08In this video, we start with the layout plan, then gradually we'll see how the arrangement, the lighting, the
00:15'Access to the small solarium terrace guided the project.
00:20And here we go! So we have our bathroom, which is located right here, and which makes
00:253.82 meters by 2.25 meters.
00:34It is therefore central, and it is served by a passageway, which is a mezzanine, which is itself part of the
00:41connected to the living areas by a staircase, and which provides access to the bedrooms.
00:45It's important to specify this, since we're talking about slightly more private areas.
00:50Our bathroom therefore consists of a bathtub, positioned right here, and a bidet.
00:57And it opens onto a terrace, which is a solarium, and which is 5 square meters.
01:05The overall volume of our bathroom is therefore 8.5 square meters, so that we can compare and appreciate it properly.
01:14So we also have a level, a height to appreciate here, since on the solarium section, and on the section
01:22At the bottom, we have a height of 60 cm.
01:24This allows you to fully understand the issues and specific details.
01:28We have a window, positioned right here, and a second one overlooking the open space.
01:33This means that it is interesting from the outside, but when compared
01:38This one is less interesting.
01:40because, as a result, it means that a person walking by here has a direct view of the bathtub.
01:46And then the owner wants to see the sea, which is over here.
01:51Therefore, we need a sea view oriented in that direction, which will shape the reorganization.
01:57of our overall volume.
01:58So we're going to remove our bathtub, remove our bidet, and take down our entire step.
02:07We have a sink with small storage compartments which are still relatively well-made, it needs
02:12to say it,
02:12but not optimal and not in line with the project.
02:15So we're going to file that away completely.
02:18We have our heating system, which is a heating system connected to a gas boiler, which we are also removing.
02:25And here, we have a very large technical column that we will use to our advantage in the rest of our
02:30layout.
02:32We also have our half-partition with the taps that we are going to remove.
02:35Right here, since we're going to configure it differently with a passage of light, you'll see why.
02:42So we have a set of constraints to integrate and we're going to rework them.
02:46Let's clarify the removal plan a bit and we'll look at it together.
02:51'structural layout.
02:54So in our bathroom, we always enter through this door, which is a swing door of about 80
03:02cm.
03:03We do indeed have this sliding window and access to our solarium terrace.
03:11So here, we're going to start by partitioning to integrate our enclosed toilet with a double partition to incorporate a
03:21sliding door.
03:22So a partition thick enough for the door to fit inside.
03:26Our door, which is positioned here and will enter the partition wall from there.
03:34So here we have our partition, it's 80 cm wide to have a passage that's still coherent and comfortable.
03:42Here, in the other section, we're going to install a fixed window to take advantage of this light and also that
03:51-here,
03:51since we are also replacing it with a glass door to maximize the amount of light in this room
04:00'water.
04:00Our wall-hung toilet is positioned here with these drain pipes that will pass under the sink to access
04:09this technical column.
04:11So, this way.
04:13Next, we have our shower ring which we position on the opposite side.
04:19And we will first draw it with our refinement and a second dubbing by integrating niches.
04:31Our shower ring measures 100 by 100.
04:37So, it is still quite comfortable in terms of space, spacing, and use, exactly.
04:49Here, precisely to preserve this visibility and brightness to the outside,
04:54We are installing a fixed window, consistent with the other joinery that will be installed.
05:04with the same profiles and white.
05:06And made of aluminum.
05:08Here, we have our shower screen being installed.
05:12In this large space, we will put the double sink.
05:17So, it's a piece of furniture that's 1.40m tall.
05:21Here, with here, is some storage.
05:26So, it's a beautiful piece of furniture, very comfortable.
05:34So, there you go, from 1.40m.
05:37We also have our towel warmer which is installed opposite the shower for easier use.
05:48So, to access our unusual space here on the terrace, we have a height of 60 cm.
05:56Here, we have the same floor, so there are no steps.
06:00So, that means the 60 cm are impacted here.
06:03To achieve this, we will create a staircase which you will see in the following implementation phases.
06:10So, with a staircase, a little bit like this, to access our outside.
06:22Indeed, this exterior space offers a fairly significant view of the neighborhood, since we are when
06:28even on the rooftops.
06:30So, we're going to install three planters here with hedging plants, so evergreen, hardy plants, such as Pitosporum Tobira and Futinia.
06:42and Abelia,
06:44to maintain significant privacy in this space and also to install a table with two chairs so that we can...
06:54'to place there.'
06:57In parallel, regarding everything related to electricity and lighting, we have a hybrid heating system here.
07:03mix,
07:03since it is connected both to the boiler and to an electrical component in order to be able to
07:07to do everything related to the mid-season.
07:09We're going to position a set of spotlights.
07:12Here, there, here and there.
07:19And we will continue in this way for the enclosed sanitary space, like this, with the va-héviens which allow
07:27making them easy to use and ensuring good circulation and a form of homogeneity.
07:32A switch is also positioned here with a wall light that allows for illumination when the outdoor space is to be used.
07:41our small terrace,
07:43and to extend the uses a little bit depending on the seasons.
07:48We have a coherent layout, the traffic flows well.
07:51We are able to get a view of the sea, as the owner wished.
07:56And a kind of intimacy is created here, since we don't have the possibility of seeing
08:01Through this window, what's happening in the toilets.
08:03So, our intimacy is manufactured.
08:04We have all the functional uses that allow us to have a bathroom that meets the needs of the space.
08:09We had a proposed development option that we suggested to the owner,
08:14which was to come and close off and partition off this small part in order to build our toilet.
08:24And at the same time, add a door, right here, to access our bathroom.
08:30which allowed us to have access to the toilet, our access to the bathroom,
08:33and to be able to easily reconfigure it here from there.
08:37with a large shower, storage, a sink, and also a large double sink,
08:44that we were able to reposition, and our staircase system,
08:47which could have been done a little differently, with a third step,
08:51that we could have seen much wider, something like that.
08:53That's what we had proposed.
08:54The owner did not want it, since he felt that, in that area,
08:58There were too many doors, and it also made the room darker for him.
09:02And he wanted, and he was particularly keen to have a view of the sea,
09:08because that's why he acquired this house.
09:10So we stuck with this planning variable,
09:13which was selected and implemented.
09:15You will find a link to resources in the description.
09:18Cutaway plan of the project, to better understand this layout and the materials used.
09:22And now, we move on to the construction phases.
09:27The removal and preparation phases have begun.
09:29We're starting from scratch, removing the bidet, bathtub and everything that was there.
09:33We discover the caissons, the old networks,
09:35Let's take a look at the new bathroom layout.
09:38and on what can be recovered.
09:39We're tackling the cladding of the sliding door.
09:43And then we close it up with the plasterboard panels.
09:46while leaving space for our fixed grinder.
09:49A false ceiling box is created to integrate spotlights.
09:52and to conceal our mechanical ventilation.
09:55Next comes the creation of the staircase.
09:57It is made of Ciporex.
09:59A material that is easy to adjust, integrate, and then coated with a slab.
10:04The stairs are inspired by the original existing model in the house
10:07at the lower level to create consistency.
10:11In parallel, the joinery elements are installed quite early.
10:14The goal is to be able to integrate them properly
10:16and to facilitate peripheral finishing,
10:19while keeping delivery times under control.
10:22Then there's a real process of preparing the materials.
10:24before the tiling and finishing touches.
10:27Once again, plasterboard is used
10:30to create the boxes, enclosures and niches.
10:33The shower tray is installed at this stage.
10:35then protected to allow for the subsequent finishing touches
10:38and the closing of the linings.
10:40A natural, raw, tombstone tile is then selected.
10:44He has just made a cut with the parquet floor of the clearance,
10:46while also covering the staircase.
10:49It stands out very well thanks to the white paint.
10:52suitable for damp rooms.
10:54The 140cm double sink is then positioned
10:57just after the installation of deep blue tiles
10:59at the back of the wall.
11:01The same tiles are found in the niches.
11:04to emphasize the depth
11:05and create a true visual landmark.
11:08The mix of blue, white and stone effect
11:11Works very well in this bathroom.
11:15Traffic flow is highlighted
11:16and allows access to the solarium,
11:18an unusual but functional space.
11:20The careful finishing touches also contribute
11:22to this overall impression.
11:23Light flows through the new door
11:25and the fixed wall,
11:26while the sliding door
11:28allows you to close the toilet.
11:29directly accessible from the bathroom,
11:32while preserving privacy.
11:33Finally, the shower becomes ultra-practical
11:36with a nice size and a large wall
11:38which allow you to enjoy the view outside,
11:40as the owner wished.
11:42The result is a modernized bathroom,
11:44tailored and personal.
11:46The whole thing interacts with the rest of the spaces
11:49that we have addressed for this project.
11:51And that will be for another video.
11:53It was Clara and Mathieu from ArchiWorking.
