01:12Do you get upset when you are reminded every day on stage that you are the
01:16oldest rider of this Giro d'Italia? I don't speak Italian so I didn't hear it
01:20but now you remind me so now for me it's not a big thing I'm also sort of proud
01:24of it that I make it already so long in a peloton so it's not a negative thing
01:28for me. Last year you came to win one stage in each Grand Tour to take part in
01:34the Giro d'Italia was not exactly the plan when you joined your team now what
01:38is your spirit? I mean it was a really nice opportunity that we could join a Giro so
01:42yeah for me the big goal is again to try to win a stage and the shape is really
01:47good and hopefully we can do it this year. Is it the kind of stage today in which
01:53you want to surprise everyone once again? I think this could be a very good stage
01:58for the for the breakaway and I think it also fits for me so yeah we're definitely
02:03going to try. Your second Giro d'Italia would you say you are an expert
02:08now in finding the right breakaways? No definitely not I think it takes a lot more
02:13than a few Grand Tours to get to that level but I mean we've came here with no
02:17GC and now Markel is doing a really good job so I think we know kind of double
02:23ambitions in the race for the second third week so we'll have to see how it goes.
02:27Initially you had Richard Carapaz as a GC rider here is it a surprise for you guys as
02:32well that Markel Bellocchi is in the top ten after the time trial? Yeah I suppose
02:37everyone's probably a little bit surprised so he's obviously got very high level but
02:40he's I think he's stepped up another level since he came to the Giro and he's
02:44really putting off some really strong performances so I think he should be
02:48really proud and the team are definitely happy to have him there in top ten.
02:53I think you have waited for a few years to take part in the Giro d'Italia is it what
02:58you expected? Yes it's super nice the I don't know in English El Ambiente is I think
03:06it's one of the most nicest races in the in the world in during the year and yeah for
03:14the moment I like it really much. After this long time trial yesterday is it
03:19another Giro starting for you today? Yes yeah not after yesterday already after
03:26Blockhouse now yeah we have to think about the stages I think we have a super
03:31team to try to win some of all the stages that we have we have a lot of
03:37opportunities with climbers, sprinters, everything so I think we have a nice
03:42opportunity. Yourself what would you like to make of the second half of the Giro? Yourself what would
03:49you like to make of the second half of the Giro? Of course win a stage. Do you know which
03:54one?
03:56I don't care I don't get one of the stages. What is your state of mind after coming second in
04:05this big time trial which puts you in the right place in GC?
04:09Yeah happy with my performance for sure sorry yeah it was a good performance I think
04:16still two minutes behind people that's a big gap but yeah it just shows that the team did a really
04:23good job with
04:23the time trial in this winter and happy to pay the team back. What do you hope for the second
04:33half of the Giro?
04:34I really take it day by day and I really try to do my best every day. I think we
04:39have
04:39already seen a lot of GC stages and a lot of different stages and really only
04:44stage 11 right so it's still a lot of stages to go to come and already today is
04:51going to be a quite a tough tough day I think and yeah I really try to do my best
04:56every day and so many things can still change. From the day you read Chiavari your
05:02home style on the map of the Giro d'Italia until today how have you developed your ambition?
05:09Yeah we started the Giro in the perfect way with the team with Paul. We took the jersey,
05:15the pink jersey so it was already an incredible start then I had also some good results for myself
05:21before having a bit of stomach issues and yeah I was not feeling the best but yesterday I did the
05:28the time trial I think power wide was was really good I didn't work a lot on it so I
05:35think the speed
05:35was not super high but yeah it was good for sure a good opener for today it's it's uh yeah
05:40my my goal
05:42today I will try everything to be good. 21st of the time trial does that make you confident that
05:48uh you can be at the front today and win at home? Yeah yeah I I really hope it uh
05:54yeah uh it's it's a parkour
05:57which which suits me quite well uh maybe it's a bit hard but you know I have the motivation I
06:02have my
06:03all my people waiting for me there so I yeah I will really arrive dead at the end. Where do
06:09you think
06:09the difference will be made? I think the difference will be made in the second last long climb it's uh
06:15the final
06:162k is really steep and the down is also really tricky I think there to be already the little that
06:22small group which will go to the finish. But a very unexpected Giro for you guys initially you had
06:28Santiago Buitrago as a leader and now you have Afonso Elaglio in the Maliarosa and still in the Maliarosa
06:34how does that change your race? Uh well it was a bit of a roller coaster with Santiago going out
06:41in Bulgaria so
06:42uh yeah it wasn't easy the couple of days that he was out but then yeah Afonso managed to turn
06:48it
06:48around for the team and it certainly makes it uh makes it a lot easier having the the jersey.
06:53You are much taller than Afonso so he maybe not need you all the time does it give you freedom
07:00for
07:00a stage like today's? Well he's been calling me his bodyguard uh for the past couple of days so uh
07:06yeah I mean
07:07I quite enjoyed uh enjoyed the role personally I don't feel physically strong enough to even if I
07:13have an opportunity to make the best out of it so yeah it's a long Giro I'll take it day
07:18by day but for
07:18now uh I'll be I'll be with uh Afonso every step of the way as much as I can. In
07:25between Norway's national
07:26day on Sunday and uh your birthday tomorrow there is this stage today that might inspire you or your team
07:32what do you think? Yeah it's uh impressive that you know this uh yeah it's nice days and also today
07:43is a good stage so uh yeah we uh try to make the best out of it. You've made a
07:50second place on stage
07:52eight. You want more? Yeah definitely. As a team we have been in the top 10 now a few times
08:00and we have
08:01second place third place so yeah we feel like we missed the first place so uh we are really motivated
08:09for this one.
