00:00A MyCard application scam has led Sabah police to uncover a syndicate producing fake identity cards.

00:15claiming she had lost RM20,000 after discovering that her purported MyCard application was not recorded in the National Registration
00:23Department database.
00:26The report prompted police to launch OpsPugo, which uncovered a much larger operation.
00:32The six-day operation, conducted from May 7, led to the arrest of nine suspects aged between 36 and 61,
00:40including five Filipinos and Indonesians.
00:43Speaking at a press conference in Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday, Commissioner Jaute said police seized numerous documents,
00:50including MyCard application forms, copies of applicants' identification documents, photographs and records related to the special residential program.
00:59Also confiscated were equipment believed to have been used in the scheme, original and photocopied birth certificates,
01:06passport copies, counterfeit identification cards and forged NRD stamps.
01:11The case is being investigated under several laws, including the Penal Code and the National Registration Regulations, 1990.
01:20Commissioner Jaute said those convicted could face fines and imprisonment,
01:24stressing that police would not compromise with any activity that threatens the country's security and sovereignty.
