00:00Let's get to Game 7 last night, Joe.
00:02What happened to the Buffalo Sabres here?
00:05Unbelievable Game 6 victory.
00:07Place was on fire last night from the actual anthems all the way through to overtime
00:13until the Canadiens struck to take a 3-2 win into Game 7, into next round.
00:20Oh, those Sabres, man.
00:22Take the Sabre beers home and have those as your little fan base
00:25and have some fun and hang it on the wall.
00:27It's a good season by the Sabres.
00:28Just couldn't continue, Joe.
00:31That was a great season by the Sabres.
00:34I mean, who are we kidding?
00:35But, you know, again, I give credit to the Montreal goaltender there,
00:41because he was—the shots that he had to endure in that game,
00:46I don't know how Buffalo didn't score four or five goals, Donnie.
00:49They outshot him 37-22, I believe, Buffalo did.
00:54And they just—they could not get that extra one in,
00:57and that ultimately is what caused them.
01:00Pekka Lukan in there early in there, rattled 2-0.
01:03Here's what I like, too, about that, because so many times when you go to a Game 7,
01:07you're just looking for a good game.
01:08Now, if it's the home team here, you're like, yeah, we went 7-0.
01:10That's the greatest game I've ever been to.
01:12But you go down 2-0.
01:13Like, the energy was out of that building, and they started to climb back in it.
01:17Got a goal in the second period, tied it up in the third, go to overtime, dominated at times,
01:22like the play on the ice, no doubt.
01:24And also, the ones that hurt the most—and it was probably the right call because the whistle blown,
01:29but it was the wrong call because they blew it too quickly.
01:31You put a puck in the back of the net.
01:33You think you might have won it.
01:34No, you didn't.
01:35And just a few moments later, bang, it goes the other way.
01:38Montreal 3-2, like, I thought we might have won.
01:40We got a cheap whistle.
01:41Turns into, oh, my goodness, our season is over, Joe.
01:45Yeah, it's unfortunate, Dottie, because it's been a hell of a run,
01:50and nobody saw them even remotely close to making it to this point.
01:55But at the same time, nobody expected them to make it through the Eastern Conference
01:59and win anything anyway.
02:00So, you know, you learn from it.
02:02You move on.
02:03You seem to have the right core of players here.
02:05And finally, I think the future is bright for the Buffalo Sabres.
02:10Should be bright for the Buffalo Sabres here at this point.
02:12It was a great run.
02:13You want to build off that here?
02:14Let's hear from Lindy Ruff, head coach postgame.
02:17On a personal level, what are the initial emotions of the season ending that way tonight?
02:25You know, it hurts.
02:26I told the team it hurts.
02:31That pain will go away.
02:34But I won't let this one game define the season we had.
02:39I told the players how proud I was of them.
02:45The battle that, you know, we took into game six in Montreal
02:51and then came back here and gave ourselves every chance to win.
02:54So, this one game doesn't define our season for us.
03:03No, it certainly doesn't at that point.
03:04It was a good run at this point.
03:06You wanted to win that to advance, but you got to take some of those like,
03:08hey, we're not used to being here.
03:10We learned a lot of lessons.
03:11Maybe next year, an extra play or two.
03:13We make that run right back at it.
03:14But they lose three to two.
03:15Let's hear from some of the players here on the Buffalo Sabres now.
03:18It's one shot that decides the whole season.
03:25It sucks.
03:27It sucks, you know.
03:28It's nothing else.
03:29It sucks, you know.
03:32I think the guys put a hell of a fight today.
03:38You know, it wasn't the start we wanted, but we played a good game in the end
03:42and it just sucks.
03:45It stings.
03:46It sucks.
03:46I don't know.
03:49It's tough.
03:50It stings.
03:54I thought we played hard all year to get to this point.
04:03I don't think anyone in this room felt like we were done yet.
04:07Just disappointed.
04:09Yeah, it sucks.
04:11The boys are upset after the game.
04:12No question about that.
04:14Left it all out there.
04:15And it's just tough because you go into game six in Montreal.
04:17It's like, there's no way we can win this.
04:19This place is a cauldron of fire right now.
04:21And you blow the doors off.
04:23All that momentum coming back.
04:25But as I said, Joe, I give them credit.
04:27You're down 2-0 right off of the bat.
04:29And you tie that up and then you go to overtime.
04:31It almost stings twice as hard as opposed to, yeah, we came home.
04:35Just didn't have it.
04:35Got beat 4-1.
04:36Boy, you fought all the way back.
04:38You felt it.
04:39One more goal and you advance.
04:40And it goes the opposite way when you thought you scored the goal here.
04:44But it was waved off due to a quick whistle.
04:47I think I now know, Donnie, why they brought Josh Allen around this team.
04:54Because if I close my eyes and listen to those, it's like spot on to every post-game disappointment
05:04playoff loss that Josh Allen has had in his entire, sounds spot on.
05:08It sounds very familiar to me, Donnie.
