00:00When you look at Toronto, you know, when bougie, big money city, that's Toronto.
00:05International market, those guys should be winning Stanley Cups left and right.
00:09So I just want to preface this by saying their last Stanley Cup victory is 1967, which is unbelievable.
00:14It's almost like a game where you look at like the New York Knicks.
00:16Huge market loves basketball and say, yeah, they probably win a lot of championships.
00:20They just don't here.
00:21But the pressure applies every year.
00:23To not win a Cup, Joe, since 1967, how about to not appear in a Stanley Cup since 1967?
00:30But take a look at this press conference that we had yesterday to begin.
00:33Toronto Maple Leafs, you want to know why it's a pressure keg?
00:36Check this out.
00:38Steve Simmons, Toronto's son for Keith.
00:41You talk about the due diligence that you did on John prior to hiring him and now hiring him.
00:48In the past, say, three to four days, I have been in contact with about 20 people who work in
00:54the National Hockey League,
00:55many of whom are prominent names that we would all know.
00:58And of the 20 people I spoke to, one was supportive of John's hiring and the other 19 thought it
01:04was a sham, to be perfectly honest.
01:06Words were used like con artist, liar, salesman.
01:10How did you come to a different conclusion than I was able to come to in a very short time?
01:15I must have talked to different people.
01:18That's it?
01:19Because I'm telling you, the hockey world today is astounded by this announcement.
01:25Okay.
01:26And your response to that?
01:28Is we've conducted due diligence, and it was deep due diligence.
01:32It was a thorough process, and I'm quite happy with where we've landed.
01:37Now, usually, like, I actually respect the question and answer, but it's just such an odd thing.
01:43There's ways you can ask questions to sort of beat around the bush, like, hey, you know, hearing some things
01:47around the league, what made you come to a conclusion?
01:49This reporter basically stood up and said, this guy's a fraud.
01:52Everybody knows he's a fraud.
01:53You hired him.
01:54Explain yourself.
01:55Now, if I was the president of operations for Toronto, I probably would have gotten a little bit of a
02:00verbal joust back and forth, like, hey, idiot, get out of the room, and you're stupid, and that's why you're
02:04not over here.
02:04Like, honestly, taking it to that street.
02:06This reporter basically told you, your franchise is terrible, and you're an idiot, and you hired a moron here, Joe.
02:12Only in Toronto, huh?
02:14Well, and he hired a moron that's been out of the NHL for five years because he was suspended by
02:21Gary Bettman for conduct detrimental to the league in game because he breached his obligations to the Arizona Coyotes when
02:31they were still there, Donnie, as he basically buried and stabbed everybody in the back in that organization.
02:37So, and, by the way, didn't exactly win a whole lot when he was running the Coyotes to begin with.
02:44So, and the assistant general manager was a guy, Shane Doan, was loved in the community, in the hockey community,
02:53and thought this was going to be his opportunity to get, you know, his chance at running the organization, and
03:00we all know he's going to be tossed out now that you're bringing in a new regime.
