Have you heard of the Senior Assassin game? It’s not a video game, it’s a sometimes-dangerous real-life trend that pops up every year around graduation time, and we’ll learn about it in this episode.
We’ll also take a look at the new website for UFO and UAP sightings established by the government that looks straight out of the X-Files.
Then, we’ll hear about research that linked working long hours with obesity. Is a four-day work week the answer, or is the Biblical diet a better route to a healthy lifestyle? We’ll learn all about both proposals on this roundup.

Featuring audio from the Mid-Morning Mike Check out of KRLD 1080 in Dallas, KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia, WWJ Newsradio in Detroit, the Dana & Parks Show out of Kansas City and the Adam & Jordana Show out of WCCO News Talk in the Twin Cities.

00:43tales reported by odyssey's radio newsrooms each week have you heard of the senior assassin game
00:51and no it's not a video game it's a sometimes dangerous real life trend that pops up every
00:58year around graduation time and we'll learn about it in this episode we'll also take a look at the
01:05new website for ufo and uap sightings established by the government it looks like something straight
01:12out of the x files then we'll hear about new research that claims that working long hours
01:18could put you at risk for obesity is a four-day workweek the answer or is a bible-inspired diet
01:25the answer we'll learn all about both options in this roundup mike rogers of odyssey station kRLD
01:321080 in dallas has our first story for today he's the host of the other side of the news segment
01:39on kRLD
01:40and the host of our in-depth interview episodes here on the something offbeat podcast
01:46he's also the host of the mid-morning mic check on kRLD and that's where he shared this story with
01:54mic check co-host austin york a massachusetts teenager playing the viral game senior assassin
02:00just needs to go away this is where high school seniors they run around town using water guns to
02:07take out assigned targets it's like an elimination game i guess maybe it'd be fun i don't know with
02:12uh apparently with cash prizes uh as i mean it it sounds like a lot of fun until it's not
02:19no yeah
02:19until you until the cops get called because the guns many times look they aren't out there with the
02:25big bright orange super soakers no they got guns that look like the real deal and so that led to
02:30a
02:30major police response after frantic 911 callers mistook this uh this kid's water gun in massachusetts
02:36for the real senior assassins origins are mysterious according to parents.com that outlet said that the
02:43game started getting widespread attention in the 2010s with mentions on shows like i carly and gossip
02:50girl here's a report from odyssey station kyw news radio in philadelphia last year about the game
02:58it's called senior assassin it's a popular game played by high school seniors where water guns are
03:05used to eliminate opponents in public spaces and neighborhoods a cable abuse john mcdevitt tells us
03:11that a south jersey police department is reminding participants to keep things safe the washington
03:16township police department says there are safety concerns with the multi-day senior assassin game
03:21especially when individuals trespass carry toy guns that resemble real weapons or act suspiciously
03:27the game is not endorsed by schools or law enforcement players are being reminded not to trespass
03:33only use bright colored water toys and followed all laws including traffic rules the rules by game
03:39organizers specify that senior assassin cannot be played on school property or school activities or
03:45meetings participants are safe from being squirted at work and that includes food delivery jobs
03:51police urge community members to call 9-1-1 if they witness suspicious activity
03:56yeah mom i got arrested yeah okay but did you get it did you get the guy that's the most
04:00important
04:00thing look i know the guys i've seen some of these guns because they try to hide as the guy
04:05and ambush
04:05somebody that's part of the game and so you put like camouflage on it and you make it blend in
04:10it looks unrecognizable and you know in a lot of times in attempting to take out their target they'll do
04:16even stupider things than you know waving a gun around remember last year there was a high school
04:21student from arlington playing the game died after falling from the back of a moving jeep yeah he was
04:25trying to hold on to the jeep kind of like and get out of there because somebody was about to
04:29spray him
04:30hit his head on the pavement and he and the woman didn't know he was well she was driving too
04:34fast and
04:34he fell off the back of the jeep and god and she was only i think there was a teen
04:38driver if i can
04:39remember correctly the day she was not charged i know tiktok has something to do with this
04:43oh absolutely they are all behind all of it taylor deets of odyssey station wwj news radio in detroit
04:50talked to rochester police lieutenant keith harper last year about the trend in one regard to safety
04:57i've been seeing a lot of parents uh talk about their students or students in general uh playing
05:02this game while they're driving uh what do you have to say about that uh so there are laws about
05:09vehicles and projectiles from vehicles um obviously it's not safe if you're the driver
05:16um if you're trying to shoot squirt guns at other vehicles that's not a safe uh operation um there's
05:24there's things that you can get pulled over sighted or even you know in in more trouble as far as
05:29accidents uh it's just not a it's not recommended i did wonder what you're telling uh maybe people
05:36without students or maybe people uh with younger students do you encourage them to report crimes
05:41or just anything suspicious even if it might be something like this going on well yeah we always
05:47want uh people to err on the side of caution as far as reporting crimes um if they if they
05:56don't know
05:57what it is absolutely call the police um if it's something that you know is is a person or a
06:05student
06:05playing water wars and they're breaking some type of law or doing something that's dangerous or going
06:11to get someone else hurt absolutely call the police as well hey there i'm kendra adachi and my show

06:37follow and listen to the lazy genius podcast on the free odyssey app or wherever you get your
06:42podcasts participation in senior assassin and water wars aren't encouraged by local governments
06:49but something new that our federal government is encouraging is the research of unidentified flying
06:56objects also known as ufos and unidentified aerial phenomena known as uaps president donald trump
07:05recently announced the release of information about these sightings it's something that he's
07:11mentioned in the past and there's now a new website up that looks like something out of a science fiction
07:17movie it seems like a dream come true for any ufo fan but what is it really like to go
07:25through these
07:25files the dave glover show team out of odyssey station kmox in st louis shared some of their
07:33initial reactions this week uh have you guys seen any of the ufos yet the ufo files saw the star
07:39shaped one guy mm-hmm yeah i went to the website and then i got bored me too you know
07:45i'm gonna let
07:46other people find yeah yeah this sounds like a somebody else kind of that's a lot of homework dude
07:51that's like dave's gonna feel like he's back at washu law like finding case precedent over there
07:56dealing it no thank you these little pbs i'm like oh no no no no no no somebody else can
08:01do that
08:02what i'm supposed to click on this i don't have all day isn't it so funny like we finally get
08:06what
08:07we want and we're like i'm not i'm not reading all this been talking about it for 25 years
08:14every single file you have here's disclosure and i swear to god i bet i did the same thing you
08:20guys
08:20did i opened it up i'm like i'm not doing this yeah that's a lot of that's that's what i
08:24did i was
08:25like i want to really go through i'm gonna this is what i'm gonna do for for like you know
08:29my own
08:29knowledge and so for so i can inform on the show i'm gonna go through the epstein files i'm really
08:34gonna like what there is millions yeah of documents in those files yeah that that's
08:42that's the hard part right i mean the people that are just literally doing this for their job
08:46right the authors the ufo community i mean like this is what they do they'll sort through it and
08:51we'll see the good stuff we're already starting to see i forgot i saw the pictures from apollo 12 too
08:55that was crazy yeah yeah those are the kinds of things i take way more seriously not that i don't
09:01trust the infrared you know or the black and whites you know the like the what do you call those
09:06this
09:06um the scope pictures that they're using but they could literally how hard could that be to make up
09:13but i think i take a little bit more seriously when it's nasa when it's when it's a fighter pilot
09:18who's seeing things and like because they're in the air a lot they've practiced this they know what
09:22things are the astronauts are scientists they know science they're like what's that thing they
09:26released photos from the surface of the moon yeah of like you know the triangle crafts you see with
09:31the lights like there's one of those is right there so chilling on the moon yeah how interesting
09:37and then they released some of the uh uh what's it called uh the transcripts of the astronauts
09:45talking about yeah there are bogeys out here yeah we're seeing bogeys yeah they're seeing things that
09:51like take off one of the who was it describing it like these he was talking about how there are
09:55these
09:56lights and then they just shoot off into space yeah like away from where we are yeah pretty neat i
10:02also
10:03i'm gonna be a total hater the uh the ufo website am i the only one who thought it was
10:09a little corny
10:10oh i didn't check on it is it cheese it's kind of cheesy is it the government government yeah it's
10:15like war.gov slash ufo and it's just very like let's see here it looks like they they designed it
10:21for the x-files or something yeah it does it looks like well like if you were going to go
10:25to like the
10:26disclosure day yeah thank you like that preview it kind of looks like that kind of website a little
10:31silly it's a bit much and and look i i don't know why i just have a very deep distrust
10:37of the release
10:37of this information yeah like well i tend to think that the ufo stuff is like the jfk stuff
10:46and we're never really going to get it unless we there's no choice like aliens show up on the
10:52lighthouse lawn you know like in that's what i'm saying i don't believe if there was a cover-up i
10:57don't believe it's just no longer covered yeah i don't believe that for a second and also you know
11:05how do we know this is what you have trust me bro is because we know you're not giving us
11:11all the
11:11epstein files even though congress passed a law saying you have to so why am i going to trust you
11:16on this that this is everything that this is the real stuff and not um i don't want to say
11:23made for tv
11:23but certainly the stuff that is uh you have an explanation for maybe but you're not really
11:28willing to share it we love ufo and alien stories anything about space here at something offbeat
11:35so we'd be lying if we said we weren't pretty excited about the files being released we'll
11:41probably dive deeper into them on future episodes so stay tuned for that and stay tuned for more
11:47something offbeat after a quick break we're going to hear about a potential four-day work week
11:52and the biblical diet two things that people are claiming might lead to a healthier life
12:03thank you for listening to this special presentation of weird news from odyssey's something offbeat
12:13trying to fit in a full 40 hours of work hitting the gym planning healthy meals taking care of chores
12:20and having a social life all in one week it can be tough here in the u.s and expensive
12:27especially as
12:28we hit another season of high inflation results of a new study claim the cutting down on one of those
12:35things could promote health and possibly lower obesity rates and it's probably not what you think
12:42here's the dana and parks show out of odyssey station kmbz in kansas city discussing it this week
12:51a story here from the uk guardian those who work longer hours are more likely to be obese
12:58and cutting how much time you spend working could help you keep the weight off according to new research
13:04international research presented at the european congress on obesity in istanbul compared working
13:12patterns and obesity prevalence for 33 countries in europe from 1992 2022 the study found that
13:22countries like the united states mexico colombia which have longer annual working hours also had higher
13:29obesity rates even though northern european countries consume more energy and fat on average than those
13:38in latin america sam go ahead i why are you blaming the eight hours that you're at work on your
13:46lack of
13:47activity and the eight hours that you're not well but there are people if you work sam let me give
13:53you an example if you work in a call center and you don't you get like one 10 minute break
13:59to use the
14:00restroom and one you know 15 minute break for lunch but there are places like that and i you know
14:07my
14:08heart breaks for anyone who works in that environment but it's it's not like you can just get up and
14:13move
14:13around well but but did you did you wake up and go straight to work well sometimes they do yes
14:18you go
14:19right to bed when you got home no i know so what did you do for the eight hours before
14:23you went to
14:24bed yeah you sit on your couch and watch tv if you make it a priority you can but i
14:29think you're
14:30sounding very judgmental sam and i think you are very judgmental in this arena and there are people
14:37who have situations that you would not wish on your worst enemy with respect to their work environment
14:44and quite frankly maybe their home environment as well so i i think you cannot paint with that
14:49broad of a brush so in light of this study in the uk there is now a call to go
14:54to a four-day work week
14:56i'm all over it i know you are i am for that
15:05most people do not need to work 40 hours to get their stuff done we learned that during covid but
15:10they're blaming the work week on obesity which is the dumbest correlation i've ever heard
15:16it doesn't have to be a correlation it could be it could be causation that would make it even worse
15:23i
15:24know i you're saying it's a lack of discipline that's what i'm hearing from you we as a society
15:31and i am saying this dana you can say that i sound judgmental and i probably do i am saying
15:35this as
15:36someone who lived this lifestyle for many years it's what prompted the change i used to get up
15:41at 11 30 i'd drag my butt into work i'd go straight home and i'd sit down and start drinking
15:47and eating
15:47junk food and playing video games every day of my life and i couldn't figure out why i was gaining
15:53weight i felt horrible all the time you were miserable i was absolutely miserable i decided within
15:59myself that it was time for a change and that change took years i mean years of me sitting in
16:05the
16:05in my truck in the gym parking lot crying flipping a coin about whether or not i should go into
16:09the
16:09gym or go home years is that true 100 i used to leave here every single day drive to the
16:15gym sit in
16:16my truck and cry deciding whether or not i should go into the gym every day i just cried going
16:23to the
16:23gym i decided that i wanted what was better for me i don't think i'm perfect i don't think that
16:28i have
16:29the the perfect script but to say that we need a four-day work week because we choose to go
16:33home and
16:33sit on our couch no i think we need a four-day work week because it studies have shown again
16:38and again and again that we don't need 40 hours to get our stuff done how many people do you
16:42guys know
16:42and we're not going to name companies genders people we know but let in your mind how many people do
16:50you
16:50know that when they went to hybrid had all of their work done by noon and the rest of the
16:57day to screw
16:58around or try to figure out how to make it look like they were working because their workload was done
17:04and now i'm not saying in every job certainly not in health care where you know there's 27 patients
17:10to one nurse when they're supposed to be four during covid but there are a lot of people who work
17:15in
17:15business in the cubicle lifestyle who like i actually spoke to somebody who said by 11 a.m they were
17:23done
17:23i know somebody who what is they were done at 11 a.m what what is the number sam maybe
17:28you can look
17:28this up if you don't mind they've actually done research on how many hours in a 40-hour week let's
17:36say you work nine to five that we actually work correct 22 is that right and the rest of it
17:41you're
17:41scrolling and you're talking at the water cooler and you're yeah meetings that could be emails my
17:49goodness meetings that should be emails i'm not opposed necessarily to a four four day work week
17:57um while some people say that the answer to living a healthier life is cutting down the work week
18:05others claim that people should be focused on changing their diets for example we've got kayla
18:11bundy she's an influencer promoting something that she calls biblical eating that's a diet inspired by
18:18the food in the bible or food that would have been available to people who are in the bible her
18:25approach to healthy eating was recently featured in the new york times adam and jordana out of odyssey
18:31station wcco news talk in the twin cities explored this new approach to an old way of eating this week
18:40friends we've been through it all i mean paleo keto atkins uh the the seafood diet you see food you
18:49eat it uh the you know south beach the grapefruit diet i mean we soup diet the egg diet we've
18:58been
18:58through it all the soup the soup diet south beach is big yeah there's been so many and atkins like
19:05that works whole 30 i did the whole 30 and did that work yeah absolutely i lost like 20 pounds
19:10in
19:10a month okay but but could you keep that lifestyle up i was supposed to but that that's what it
19:16was
19:16it wasn't like whole 30 opened my eyes we're sidetracked yeah well that's okay it opened my eyes to
19:22the impact of sugar uh there is a 27 year old you know internet influencer thank you influencer
19:30uh that has a diet inspired by the bible that is now part of the maha movement the make america
19:37healthy again yeah movement extra food so now this influencer says she is starting a biblical diet and
19:45is encouraging other people to do the biblical diet it sounds awfully familiar okay to me she buys raw milk
19:54she snacks on sardines loaves fishes that's what i mean it's authentic sourdough bread locally sourced
20:04ingredients you know these are and she says there are foods mentioned in the bible that she is eating
20:13now when you look when you when you look at the bible i actually know about this there are seven
20:17species that are grown in the holy land that are native to the holy land that mark makes his vodka
20:23out of
20:23this wheat barley olives figs dates grapes and pomegranates those are the seven species in the bible
20:29that are found in the holy land now she is not alleging that you eat just those foods but she
20:35is
20:36saying that you should eat things like non-processed sardines fish non-processed sourdough bread raw milk like
20:47they used to drink i guess from goats if they were drinking milk right you know in the you know
20:51in the
20:52the sinai desert this sounds an awful lot like the mediterranean diet right which i think by and large
21:01most food experts or nutritionists say is the healthiest diet you can eat yes olives figs dates
21:09grapes pomegranates wheat barley these are natural substances grown not only in the middle east but
21:16everywhere we can get those but yeah if you look at that this friends is just the latest marketing
21:23correct of another diet yeah so when i saw that i mean look it got me sucked in it's click
21:28bait and i
21:28clicked so it sounds like a healthy diet and you know what if you want to say it's a religious
21:33thing
21:33for me good on you that's right i think the more people that are healthy the better that's right so
21:38use
21:38whatever motivation you want to use thank you so much for listening to this weird news roundup
