00:01Nine-year-old Odai Shana, whose mother emigrated from war-torn Gaza and settled in Southern California two decades ago,
00:09was among dozens of children forced to huddle in classrooms on Monday when deadly gunfire erupted at the mosque where
00:16they attend school.
00:18During an interview at the Islamic Center of San Diego, Shana recalled hearing a barrage of 12 to 16 gunshots
00:25coming from outside the walls of the complex.
00:27I heard like a bunch of bad stuff like gunshots. And plus, I went inside the closet with my whole
00:35class.
00:36We heard like 12 or like 16 gunshots. And then the SWAT team said, FPR open up and they opened
00:45the door.
00:46Shana and classmates were quickly ushered into a closet where they crowded together, trembling in fear,
00:52until they heard members of a police SWAT team shouting outside the classroom to open the door.
00:58I felt a bit scared. My legs were shaking and my hands. And my head was like hurting me a
01:06lot. I felt like a rock.
01:09The teachers and the kids were like shaking, sad and stuff. And when the guy kicked the door, all of
01:15them were crying.
01:16Three men affiliated with the Islamic Center, including a security guard credited by authorities with preventing greater bloodshed,
01:25were shot dead outside the mosque by the two teen suspects, who later took their own lives several blocks away.
