00:02With Wyala's blast furnace still offline following unscheduled maintenance in early April, the
00:07Prime Minister moved to allay community fears.
00:10We recognise the importance which is there of having a steel making industry in Australia.
00:19We want a future made in Australia.
00:21The Premier upfront about the difficulties workers are having in getting the steelworks
00:25back producing vital molten iron.
00:28The blast furnace continues to be in a very vulnerable situation but staff on the ground
00:34are seeking to bring it back to life.
00:39$2.6 billion has so far been committed to finance the administration and support a new buyer
00:46to build a new modern steel making plant.
00:48The opposition says while it's supportive of extra money for Wyala, it's concerned about
00:53how long the sale process is taking.
00:56This has gone on a lot longer than what the government had first projected so we'll have
01:00to wait until the state budget comes out to see how much additional taxpayer funds are
01:05being poured into this program.
01:06The state government says with five potential buyers in the mix, the sale is tracking well
01:11and it always expected the process to take at least 18 months.
01:16The Prime Minister also looked to assure workers and contractors about their future at Nearstar's
01:22smelting operations as negotiations continue on another bailout.
01:26We're continuing to work with Nearstar both in Port Pirie and in Tasmania, we're working
01:32through those commercial arrangements.
01:34At the start of May, the previous nine month $135 million bailout ended, it's unclear how
01:42much money has been offered this time to Nearstar's multinational owner Trafagira.
