Unknown Worlds Entertainment says Subnautica 2 will continue the series’ no-killing philosophy despite player requests for weapons and combat.

Instead of turning players into unstoppable predators, the studio wants Subnautica to remain focused on survival, tension, and learning to coexist with the creatures around you.

That means no traditional weapons, no Leviathan hunting, and no becoming the apex predator of the ocean.

Some players love the immersion and fear this creates… while others think the game needs proper combat options.

So which side are you on?

00:00Unknown Worlds is standing firm on Subnautica's two no-killing philosophy.
00:04And I honestly think this is the right call here, even if it frustrates some players.
00:08The entire identity of Subnautica 1 and 2 depends on you not being the apex predator,
00:13and that's what makes the games memorable. In most survival games, fear disappears the
00:18moment you get stronger weapons, but in Subnautica it works differently, because
00:22even after hours of progression, leviathans still feel dangerous because the game never
00:27fully lets you dominate the environment. And that creates a kind of a tension very few
00:31games maintained long term. I remember when I built my first Cyclops and I pimped it with all
00:36the upgrades, and even though that was a very powerful vehicle, I still felt vulnerable every
00:41single time I saw the leviath and then I started panicking. So yeah, I think this formula works
00:46very well. Not every game needs to fulfill every power fantasy, and sometimes the whole point is
00:52to learn to survive in a world that doesn't revolve around you.
