00:00The 80s are so back and I don't just mean a few nostalgic runway references I'm
00:06talking padded shoulders, peplums, polka dots, big hair and bold colors. After
00:14years of quiet luxury and old money minimalism the fashion pendulum is
00:21swinging to max. The whole greed is good aesthetic is creeping back into our
00:27wardrobes. Greed is right. Greed works. The clues are everywhere. Pinterest searches
00:34for the 80s have now overtaken the 90s and the trend is filtering through to
00:40shoppers too. Searches are spiking on clothing resale sites such as vintage and
00:46depop. People are suddenly hunting for vintage Armani again. That's why
00:51retailers are loading up on padded shoulders, draped dresses and sculpted
00:56silhouettes and luxury brands are fully committed. Saint Laurent has basically
01:02become the headquarters for the 80s revival. Versace is leaning into its own
01:08archive. Valentino is doing polka dots, satin and exaggerated glamour. Even
01:14menswear is getting in on it. Tailoring is proving more than a fad. Miami vice suits
01:20brands are suddenly on trend again. Fashion typically rebels against the prevailing
01:25norm. But sometimes those swings say something bigger about the mood of the
01:30economy. The 80s was a time of excess and the unleashing of animal spirits a bit
01:36like now. So while retailers may welcome the return of glitz and glamour, investors
01:42might want to pay attention.
