Listen to what Magnus Sheffield, Oliver Naesen, Warren Barguil, Michael Valgren, Gianmarco Garofoli and Giulio Pellizzari have to say ahead of stage 8 of the Giro d'Italia 2026!

The Giro d’Italia is one of the most prestigious cycling tours in existence. After last year’s thrilling battle, in which Simon Yates defeated Richard Carapaz and Isaac del Toro, the peloton returns for another three weeks of top-level racing. Jonas Vingegaard, representing Team Visma–Lease a Bike, will be aiming to claim his first Giro title. The 24-year-old Giulio Pellizzari will try to stop him, as will Derek Gee-West, Felix Gall, Enric Mas, and Adam Yates, who would no doubt love to follow in his brother’s footsteps. With plenty of opportunities for both sprinters and attacking riders, everything is in place for three weeks of thrilling and unpredictable racing!

00:00What are the ambitions of your team for this Giro Italia and have they changed after yesterday?
00:06I think yeah no they haven't changed uh from yesterday uh yeah our ambitions here are to fight
00:12for the podium and yeah to go for stages as well so I think today uh is another good opportunity
00:20for that uh but it's a long long Giro like yesterday with Blockhouse uh it was their first
00:27first big mountain test but I think yeah there's gonna be many more hard stages ahead of us so
00:32it's definitely not over. How much could a stage win be a booster for the GC? I think like in
00:40the
00:40Volta last year like it definitely uh yeah it brings the morale up uh just like for the team but
00:46yeah
00:47I think it's definitely possible and we have a really strong uh team for this so I think it'll
00:52definitely help over three weeks. Oliver what do you make in the team of Felix Gall's performance
00:59yesterday? What do I make of it uh excellent very good um we were hoping and assuming that he would
01:07finish on the podium of yesterday's stage but there's obviously a lot of unknowns going into the
01:12stage first mountaintop finish and then we followed in the radio the encouragement of our sports director
01:18Luke Roberts to Felix so we were we knew it was pretty good and uh to be this close to
01:24Jonas Vingegao is
01:26pretty impressive. First Giro for yourself uh what is your discovery of the Giro and what do you think
01:32you can achieve as a team and personally? But personally I'm here to support Felix and Toby so uh
01:39it's more collectively I think I think and I hope we can win a stage in the sprint with
01:43Toby and uh it would be the dream if he could uh put Felix on the final GC podium. What
01:49do you think
01:50you have to do today? Today not much keep him out of trouble onto the the final climb make sure
01:57he's in a
01:57good position and from there it's just just legs and I think it would be quite easy for a rider
02:04like
02:04Felix uh just not to lose not to lose time it's for us quite straightforward today normally.
02:10You are the only one in this peloton who knows how to win in Fermo. How? Yeah it was a
02:17breakaway day
02:17in uh Tireno. I was in a break the day before and uh yeah I made it again the day
02:22after and uh we
02:24didn't get caught by uh by the peloton and I win a win a nice stage in uh Tireno. We
02:29didn't expect you
02:30at the Giro d'Italia why have you decided to come eventually? Yeah I was uh planning at the start
02:35of the
02:36season but I have a bad crash in uh in February and uh until the yeah I think the last
02:42uh 15 days
02:44before the Giro I was not sure to be here and uh yeah the team changed the plan we have
02:48one one guy sick
02:50then they came here and uh yeah with not the shape I was uh expecting but uh yeah I hope
02:56I will find a
02:57super good legs uh for at least one or two days and uh try to fight for the for the
03:02win in a Giro in a stage
03:03I mean same region when where you won a stage of Tireno Adriatico same kind of parkour same issue
03:13yeah I sure hope so I'm gonna give it a give it a go you know it's um it's a
03:18nice stage and hopefully I
03:20have some good legs that's basically what it's it's all about in the end it's uh about some good legs
03:25how many riders do you think are eager to break away today yeah man it could be uh could be
03:32a big
03:32break it could take a while personally I hope we go on the first 8k when it's like uphill and
03:3810 guy group or something you know but it could continue for hours today and um because I think many
03:43guys know today could be a breakaway day you know so it's it's it's hard to to say what's gonna
03:48happen
03:48what are the elements that can make the breakaway win or not ah basically it has to be some some
03:54good
03:54riders uh working well together and um I think if we attack for a long time then it's quite a
04:01relative
04:01short stage and then maybe the gc guys are gonna you know try also you know um you have bora
04:08have a
04:09strong team they can maybe set the galon under pressure so yeah that's why I hope we go go early
04:15get a
04:15a good gap so they won't catch us how do you feel about racing at home today yes will be
04:23amazing
04:24I will have a lot of fans on the way so I push the best you know the course can
04:32you tell us the
04:33secrets of the secrets of the finale ah the secrets of the last uh 3k is uh just don't go
04:41over in the
04:42last uh kicker because then we will will be a long way to go you have had a lot of
04:48work so far with
04:49Paul Manier is it for you today or is it again something that could suit Paul Manier no I think
04:56today will be a breakaway day today you race at home do you think you can do as well as
05:04at
05:04terreno adriatico on your home stage no I think today is is a bit different I'm not so close to
05:10my
05:11to my home of course it's my region but uh we will see we are uh i think pretty tired
05:16after yesterday but
05:18we will see I hope that the sun uh can uh can stay healthy the finish you wear the male
05:24blanca are you
05:25happy about that are you satisfied or not fully satisfied with what you have done yesterday yeah I mean uh
05:31uh yeah now I'm a bit uh a bit more happy yesterday I was a bit uh frustrated because I
05:38think I did some
05:39some mistake but uh yeah this is this jersey is not mine I don't like too much to wear the
05:45jersey of
05:45another but uh now it's like this and we hope uh we hope that we can take the jersey by
05:51ourselves
