00:00Police officer, data! Stop!
00:02Driver's making off.
00:04Derbyshire traffic cops.
00:05Pull over in here now!
00:07Might be game on for some of it here.
00:09It's just gone. Go, go, go, go.
00:12Patrol some of the country's most dangerous roads.
00:15Speed is 4-0. The vehicle's all over the road.
00:19Driving head-on.
00:20He's up the kerb.
00:21Into danger.
00:22Just have warning markers for firearms.
00:25Vehicle's done.
00:26Get out of the car!
00:28Wow, good.
00:29Designed to look like a mobile phone.
00:31Don't pull away, fella.
00:33With rising crime rates.
00:36Officers are under pressure.
00:38Stop! Get out of here!
00:40You're doing it!
00:41Come out of here now!
00:42You're under arrest.
00:45Please!
00:46With lives on the line.
00:47We're going to need at least three or four ambulances.
00:51Is it fuel?
00:52Right, move away from this car now!
00:54The stakes are high.
00:56It isn't looking good at the minute.
00:57For the traffic cops.
00:59We've flown 128.
01:0011 minutes past two in the afternoon.
01:02You're under arrest.
01:03We're fishing with theft of motor vehicles.
01:05Kenny, do not run.
01:07Smack the officer!
01:09Another problem!
01:10All right.
01:13Coming up...
01:14How long ago is it here?
01:15A minute ago.
01:16Police, tech and tactics.
01:18So we are.
01:18Help officers track down wanted suspects.
01:21Get your scornion out of here.
01:22Well, this is just going to make it...
01:23Come away!
01:26A shocking crime.
01:28Wow, that's horrendous.
01:29Caught on CCTV.
01:31There's a black red split open.
01:32Oh, gosh, okay.
01:34And...
01:35It's black as weapons as a force.
01:37A tip-off leads to a drone-led manhunt.
01:40That's two people, innit?
01:41For a violent suspect on the run.
01:44Anyone in that tent?
01:45Police officer with a dog.
01:47Oh, boy.
02:00Caught on the left.
02:03Yeah, now she's putting her seatbelt on.
02:06Every day across Derbyshire,
02:09police are on the lookout for wanted suspects.
02:15Quite a lot of waves today.
02:17It's a daily challenge for officers like PC's Jack Pressland
02:21and Devon Scarborough,
02:23who use tech and teamwork to catch suspects on the move.
02:27Technology is 90% of our job.
02:30We've got in-car technology,
02:32but also that many cameras out there now.
02:36Passing us hits.
02:40From there to all units, got ANPR hit.
02:44Units can start making their way to the area.
02:46Near Derby, a police camera has located a suspicious car.
02:50Just ran this vehicle through Niche.
02:52There's intelligence on the vehicle.
02:54This male's wanted.
02:56What you wanted for?
02:58Talking.
03:00It hit it.
03:01Seven minutes to three.
03:02You got a picture of it?
03:04Yeah.
03:05Male driving.
03:08It's got an L-plate on back.
03:10I don't know where it's likely to go.
03:13Just do some digging on it.
03:16Once a people are using our road networks daily,
03:20and do they, they need to get about,
03:22they need to still carry on the day-to-day life
03:25or the criminality.
03:27Anyway, this gentleman's got felt stop risk.
03:30He's got a few XL bullies.
03:32Whoever's got him in the cars, it would matter.
03:35Knowing the details of the person that's wanted is key.
03:39We can get the warning markers, the routes that are likely to go.
03:43It makes it a lot easier for us.
03:47We might have to swap because I can do T-pack.
03:53Devon is new to the team and isn't yet trained for high-speed pursuits.
03:58So Jack takes the wheel.
04:00This gentleman's got felt stop risk.
04:03So by us swapping, it just means that we've got the tactics.
04:06So I can do T-pack resources and tactics and hopefully get stopped quickly.
04:15There's so much on the OEL.
04:18He's been walking past our house, shouting abuse that are in the street
04:21and following her in his vehicle.
04:23Bit of a nasty bogger.
04:25The quicker we get this person arrested, the less damage you can do.
04:31So it's key that we get him fuck off the streets immediately.
04:37From Nagerster Observations, all units for an AMPR hit at Derby City Centre.
04:44What's that? It's just hit.
04:46How long ago was the hit?
04:47The hit was at 15.19, so a minute ago.
04:53The vehicle linked to the wanted suspect
04:56has triggered another camera close by.
05:00The technology's massive when we're out there.
05:03AMPR gives us all the key intel so we can put a plan together.
05:064-0.
05:08I've seen it's pinging quite a lot.
05:09We've got units here.
05:10If this vehicle is about to stop, we've got all four heads to pursue, please.
05:13Advanced driver, T-pack trained, high-performance, smart vehicle.
05:16Yeah, I'm happy with that.
05:18Are we getting more tactical units making the way to the area?
05:21Oscar Tango, 4-7.
05:23I am fully delivered, high-performance vehicle.
05:25Advanced driver, T-pack trained.
05:28With the risk of a pursuit,
05:29traffic cop Andy Swift makes his way to assist.
05:33From 4-7, can I just confirm that it's a black Cougar with an L-plate on?
05:38Yes, yes.
05:39We've got a backup of our air squad that for two minutes out and we've got an ask of you
05:43late mobile assigned should the occupancy come from the vehicle.
05:47A police helicopter is on standby if the suspect goes on the run.
05:52It's only two minutes away.
05:55Obviously, we've got to try and find it yet and it's a bit of a rabbit warren around here
05:57so it could be anywhere.
06:01Where are you?
06:04As if he's gone into retail park.
06:07Five units, including police dog handler PC Andy Shaw, are now searching for the vehicle.
06:13Yeah, 24. I'll keep monitoring.
06:14You look left, I look wrong.
06:18I was going to go to 3.
06:21Should I have gone far then?
06:23No.
06:25This individual we're tracking is a massive game of cat and mask.
06:29What's this here?
06:31No.
06:32Police intel helps officers pinpoint the area where the vehicle regularly travels.
06:39Some wanted people who are experienced are quite savvy with our technology.
06:45They can plan their routes on a day-to-day basis so they don't get caught as quickly.
06:51Jack, did you do all the way down into the car park?
06:53You know, Odeon.
06:56Odeon's the only one I hadn't done, mate.
06:57I very much doubt he's a cinema goer.
06:59I'll double check.
07:02It's all about being determined.
07:04We'll get him.
07:06We'll get him stopped and we'll get him locked up.
07:10Any else in UN?
07:12No one.
07:13No one.
07:15Big Liz here parked up.
07:18That's for help, buddy, sorry.
07:20Dog mobile's got it.
07:23Nearby, dog handler Andy spots the suspect.
07:26There we are.
07:31Hang on, mate.
07:31I'm thinking all I wanted, mate.
07:32You've got to have to say, I'm in my own defence.
07:34If you've not mentioned any questions, I'm through to lay fine court.
07:35Anything you say, you may be given evidence.
07:38The reason for your arrest...
07:40I haven't done nothing.
08:04There's an unknown woman with the suspect.
08:07Wait, let me give him this to you, OK?
08:08She's the suspect's partner.
08:11Can I sit in a bit?
08:11I love you lots.
08:13Officers want to make sure she's OK.
08:16You don't need to come down here and talk to him.
08:18Yeah, she can talk to me.
08:19Yeah, it's a good thing.
08:19We're in a civil community.
08:20We're in a civil community.
08:21Just watch your foot for me.
08:25Did he just punch that window?
08:27Yeah.
08:28Are you pissing me off?
08:29Get your score on your hands off.
08:30It's just going to be me and you in the back.
08:31You're going to sit in the front, all right?
08:33Pissing me off.
08:34As tensions rise...
08:37Is that your dad?
08:38Yeah.
08:38What are they doing, you're not?
08:41Stalking.
08:42The suspect's parents arrive.
08:44Hey, what's that?
08:45I'm going, then.
08:47I'm going.
08:48Go away, mate.
08:50Come away.
08:53Go away, now.
08:54You're not speaking to me.
08:55You're under arrest.
08:56Do you want locking up, mate?
08:57Do you really want to open it?
08:58Coming up...
08:59Hey, can you make Logan aware?
09:00There's going to be a bit of retribution from this.
09:02Go away.
09:03As tempers flare...
09:05I'm not an American rocket stomp.
09:07A police dog is brought in.
09:10Oh, man.
09:12And...
09:13It's weapons and drugs.
09:15A tip-off for a suspect on the run...
09:18Yeah, that's it.
09:18...leads to a remote hideout.
09:21Anyone in that tent?
09:22Police officer with a dog.
09:24Oh, boy.
09:36After a city-wide search for a violent suspect involving five units...
09:42Did he just punch that window?
09:44Yeah.
09:45Police, tech and intel has helped officers track down the young man who is wanted for
09:50an alleged stalking offence.
09:52Are they pissing me off?
09:54Get your scrawling hand off me.
09:54Well, this is just going to make me...
09:55With the suspect detained for questioning...
09:57What are they doing?
09:58You're not.
09:59...his parents turn up...
10:01...and want answers.
10:07Go away, mate.
10:09Come away.
10:10Hey, can you make loads of your work?
10:11There's going to be a bit of retribution on this.
10:14Have you still...
10:15Oh, man.
10:16Go away now.
10:17I want to speak to him.
10:17You're not speaking to him.
10:18He's under arrest.
10:19Do you want locking up, mate?
10:20Do you really want to?
10:21I want to know what he's been charged with.
10:22He's not been charged.
10:23He's been arrested.
10:23Go away.
10:24I am pushing you.
10:25Go away.
10:27Good boy.
10:27With the situation escalating, dog handler Andy Shaw fetches YOLO.
10:32His dad was a bit anti-police initially.
10:35I don't know what he's doing or giving him, so I'll move him.
10:39I've got two of them at home.
10:40I don't think so.
10:42Put your rocks back in the van.
10:44It's all about remaining calm with them, but we need to show them who's boss.
10:49They're not in charge.
10:50We are.
10:52You can see where you get your temperament from.
10:53Oh, yeah.
10:55On to Buster, then.
10:57While officers stay behind to keep the suspect's mother in check.
11:02Come on.
11:03I can probably stop.
11:04So I've got this round there, pa.
11:06Jack and Devon bring the man in for questioning about the alleged stalking offence.
11:17So you're on bail already for strangulation?
11:20I'm on bail for strangulation, yeah.
11:22As the suspect's booked into custody.
11:25Come on, pa.
11:25Well, tensions on the estate have calmed and no further threats have been made.
11:33How are we going?
11:34How are you, all right?
11:35I'm over here.
11:36I mean, better than me.
11:37It's like a bit of a reunion, isn't it?
11:39Yeah, we're good, but he wouldn't make it back.
11:42Let's have a little circumcised to your resume.
11:44So there's a report that he's been walking past her house three to four times most days, shouting abuse of
11:49her in the street, following her in his vehicle.
11:52So he's been arrested for stalking, for prompting and effecting investigation and also to protect a vulnerable person.
11:58This individual is a danger, so it's vital that we remove him from our streets straight away.
12:06I'm all right here.
12:08He keeps getting arrested and bailed, so he's a bit angry.
12:11Like, this is ridiculous.
12:14I'd like to see the CCTV comes, so you can prove it in a second.
12:16That's everything I'll have to follow up.
12:17You have to follow all of that up.
12:18The man will be interviewed and his phone analysed.
12:22You are going to...
12:24Night.
12:26The investigating officers will also use CCTV to look into the suspect's movements.
12:32Technology plays a massive part.
12:34It's more difficult for criminals to escape, evade us.
12:38It helps us out so much more than just going on a hunch.
12:42Home sweet home.
12:44You know how it all works, don't you?
12:46Yeah.
12:47Camera's up there, buzzer's there.
12:49If you need help, give him a buzz, yeah?
12:50See you in a bit.
12:58As well as police technology,
13:00the public play a vital role in tracking down suspects on the run.
13:12Seek fine.
13:14The police receive over 200,000 tip-offs
13:18on wanted suspects from the public each year.
13:21Yes, good boy.
13:23And it's often down to officers like Andy Shaw.
13:27Speak.
13:28And police dog YOLO.
13:32To respond to new intel.
13:37Hello, and do you want a number to go ahead?
13:40We'll get on to that, surely.
13:42Mail is up to us showing outstanding wanted.
13:47The police have received a tip-off
13:49on the location of a young man wanted for assault.
13:54Yeah, it's you.
13:55This chap is wanted for a serious assault involving a bottle.
14:01It switches you on a little bit.
14:02He's willing to use extreme levels of violence towards people.
14:08Andy and YOLO are travelling to a remote location
14:11to search for the suspect.
14:13Yeah, it's you.
14:14As an update comes through.
14:17He's got a 15-year-old girl in there with him.
14:21He may be in a tent with a child.
14:25I think this chap's in his 30s.
14:27There's someone who might be vulnerable,
14:28who might need the police's assistance.
14:32We've got a rough description of where he is,
14:35but it's a large, wooded area.
14:37There's going to be a lot of guesswork and a lot of searching,
14:40which is obviously where the dog comes in.
14:42And they ask us, you're 8-8.
14:44You're going to go to 8-6.
14:47All right.
14:49The job's a bit strange, isn't it?
14:50Yeah.
14:51A local police unit is already on scene to help with the search.
14:55Do you know this chap or not?
14:57I've arrested him before.
14:59He's put on the markers for weapons and a bus.
15:01All right, cool.
15:03Obviously, if he does run, the dog will be coming out,
15:06so no-one run after him.
15:08Yeah.
15:08I'll have a wander-up with the dog, see what we've got.
15:12Good lad.
15:12Andy and Yolo go ahead to try and pick up a scent.
15:17Go on.
15:19Peter Yolo, obviously, is a big lad.
15:21He's getting on for 50 kilos of shepherd.
15:23So he's a bit of a handful, but he's good at tracking.
15:26He's got a good nose.
15:28Location is...
15:30A bit further up here to the left.
15:31Go on.
15:34To a wild goose chase, isn't it?
15:39Officers down at the cars,
15:40on the description of where this chap is,
15:42apparently it's near some water pipes at the bottom of a cliff.
15:44There is no cliff.
15:45There's just a big hill up here.
15:46Did you see any water pipes or anything on the way in?
15:51It's dark.
15:52It's the early hours of the morning,
15:54and I'm trying to find a man in a tent in, you know,
15:57tens of square miles of rural countryside.
16:00It makes it very difficult.
16:02I'm going to give the informant a call.
16:05Hey up, it's the police.
16:07I'm out looking for this tent at the moment.
16:09I believe you know where it is.
16:12I've driven down the trail,
16:14and I'm kind of stood halfway up a hill.
16:17Ah, right, so I've not gone far enough.
16:19I'll find him.
16:21As the cops close in on the location
16:23provided by the member of the public...
16:25I think it is here somewhere.
16:28..they launch the drone
16:29to try and pinpoint the suspect
16:31with a heat-sensing camera.
16:33It's a joint effort between the people
16:35who have initially called us,
16:36officers on the ground,
16:37the dog and the drone.
16:39I've been given loosely
16:41here at the bottom of a cliff.
16:42What's that?
16:45Is that a tent?
16:47Sure.
16:48Yeah, that's it.
16:50That's two people, innit?
16:52Are you all right to keep your drone on it
16:54in case they get up and run?
16:56I'll take the dog in and look.
16:59He's been violent in the past.
17:01He's known to carry weapons.
17:03If I was on my own,
17:04yeah, I'd probably be a little bit more apprehensive.
17:06However, if and when we find someone,
17:09then there's 42 teeth
17:10to hopefully make people make the right decisions.
17:14What is that going to suggest
17:15is there's someone bent down here?
17:18Oh, find him.
17:20Oh boy.
17:21There's a cliff here.
17:25I can smell the fire.
17:29Easy, easy.
17:31Easy.
17:32Here we go.
17:34Go.
17:37Kill it, 8-8 with the tent.
17:39Anyone in that tent?
17:40Police officer with a dog.
17:48There's every chance they're asleep in there
17:50or we're contemplating the next move.
17:53Mate, you in there?
17:55Good boy.
17:57Mate, police officer with a dog.
17:59I want you to come out slowly.
18:02Anyone else in there with you?
18:08With the potential of being a child in there,
18:11I don't want to just send the dog in
18:13to do investigate.
18:15Who else is in there with you?
18:19Yeah, officer, to me, please.
18:20Andy calls for backup.
18:23Hey, get out now.
18:32Mate, listen.
18:35Come and sit on the ground there
18:36so I can see you.
18:39Now, hey!
18:43All right, stay there.
18:44Stay there!
18:46Listen, you're not listening.
18:47Sit on the floor.
18:51Mate, wait!
18:53Mate, keep your hands where I can see you.
18:56He keeps reaching into the tent
18:57so I'm reminding him not to do that
19:00because I don't know what's in there.
19:01I don't know if he's got a load of drugs
19:03that he's going to try and swallow.
19:04I don't know if he's got a knife, a bottle,
19:06anything else that might harm me or him.
19:09Mate, I'm not doing nothing wrong.
19:11I'm doing nothing wrong.
19:11Well, I'm telling you,
19:12keep your hands there
19:13because I don't know what you've got in there.
19:14Scoot closer to me.
19:16Come closer.
19:19Hey, you are getting close to getting bitten, pal.
19:22For what?
19:23Because you're not doing as you're told.
19:25Right, put the socks on.
19:27In a minute, once my colleagues come,
19:29at the moment my two options are talking to you
19:31or the dog bites you.
19:32Well, I've got nothing wrong.
19:34Right, okay.
19:35I suspect you might be wanted for a crime.
19:38But I don't know who you are yet
19:39so I need to confirm who you are.
19:41So until I can do that, you sit there.
19:46What's up here?
19:48Wait, mate.
19:48What are you?
19:50Right, listen, you can take me
19:51and I'll take me stuff with me as well.
19:53I'm not letting go in then
19:54because I don't know what's...
19:55Mate, it happens.
19:58Just confirm your details for me.
20:01Just confirm your name.
20:03The officers ID the man
20:05and confirm he is the wanted suspect.
20:08Time 0428, you and I asked for a phone to appear at the door.
20:11You actually may have a home of the fence.
20:13If you do not mention one question,
20:14something which you let your landing call
20:15and you do say maybe give them that.
20:18I'm happy with the result.
20:20They've got a chap who's wanted for a violent offence
20:23and this girl's been safeguarded.
20:25All right, so let's get you going.
20:27A local unit will take the girl home
20:30and notify the safeguarding team.
20:34Oi, make sure you look up after yourself.
20:37There will be lots.
20:38Give it a bit, mate.
20:39She says she's 16.
20:40We believe she's 15.
20:42Either way, she is.
20:43She's young, so she'll be spoken to now
20:46and find out what, if anything, has gone on.
20:490443, you're further arrested
20:51on special possession of a Class B substance.
20:54Gentleman, he's gone off to Ripley custody now.
20:57He'll be booked in and dealt with interviews.
21:00It's a nice feeling knowing
21:01he's no longer a threat to the people of Derbyshire.
21:05Yeah, good lad.
21:06Good boy.
21:14The use of CCTV cameras,
21:17over 7 million nationwide,
21:19are often the only way to identify wanted suspects.
21:31There should be some help in there with you shortly.
21:32There should be some help in there with you shortly.
21:32I've just come down David's road in Swaddling Coat
21:36and found an old woman lay on the floor
21:39and all her back of her head split open.
21:41Oh, gosh, OK.
21:42She's probably the blood.
21:44About how old is she?
21:46You're probably best speaking to her because I don't know.
21:49She's 70.
21:50She's bleeding heavily.
21:52It's almost like a curve, eh?
21:53OK.
21:53I think she's in place.
21:55There should be some help in there with you shortly, I think.
21:58In South Derbyshire,
21:59several units and paramedics are en route
22:02to a seriously injured woman.
22:04So does he say you know what's happened to her?
22:07I think she's fell off the curve.
22:09She definitely needs medical help.
22:15Coming up...
22:16That is horrendous.
22:18After a pensioner is left fighting for her life...
22:21Paramedics are describing a whole host of injuries.
22:24Some shocking CCTV leads to a hunt
22:27for a hit-and-run driver.
22:30That's some of the worst footage I've ever seen.
22:32And police cameras...
22:34We now speed 120.
22:37...help officers locate a wanted vehicle...
22:40That vehicle could be involved in potentially high-value theft.
22:43...carrying an unexpected haul.
22:46Sick boxes.
23:06Hello, mate.
23:07We've managed to identify some CCTVs
23:10from one of the houses on the street.
23:12Several hours after a 70-year-old woman
23:15was found badly injured at the roadside...
23:18Tell me, is that what happened?
23:19I think she fell off the curve.
23:22She is still in hospital fighting for her life.
23:26Traffic cop Matt Copestate reviews CCTV footage
23:30secured from the area.
23:32The initial report that we've had
23:35is that she's possibly fallen off the curb.
23:37But paramedics on scene are describing
23:39a whole host of injuries,
23:42potential fractures to her legs,
23:43abdominal injuries,
23:45which gets the mind racing
23:47and gives you the suspicion
23:49that there's more to it than just a simple fall.
23:53We've got our victim walking into the screen
23:55just up here.
23:57As Matt rewinds the footage...
24:02Wow, that's horrendous.
24:04..he uncovers some shocking evidence.
24:13Our victim,
24:14and she's just stopped at the road here
24:17to cross the road,
24:19ready, just waiting for this vehicle to go.
24:21So, the victim wouldn't have seen it coming,
24:24it's just shocking footage.
24:27We see a white van enter into the road
24:30just as the lady's crossing.
24:35The van is on the wrong side of the road
24:37and unfortunately hits the lady full-on
24:39in the bonnet
24:40and then carries her at least 20, 30 metres
24:44into the junction
24:45before driving away.
24:50As you can see,
24:51she's left on the floor there in the gutter
24:53and she's not stopped.
24:54Wow.
24:57So, she was well within her rights
24:58to cross to the central reservation here.
25:01She's just cut the corner
25:02and wiped her out.
25:04It's a key bit of evidence.
25:06There's no registration plate displayed,
25:08but we know we're looking for
25:09a white, transit-style van.
25:12That's some of the worst footage I've ever seen.
25:14She didn't stand a chance,
25:16there's no way she could have seen that coming.
25:18As a police officer
25:19with nearly 20 years' experience,
25:21I've seen a lot of things.
25:25That footage is amongst the worst
25:27I've ever seen
25:28in my entire career.
25:31To strike somebody like that,
25:33I will never forget the noise of that impact.
25:37It gives me the extra motivation
25:39to apprehend that person
25:40and bring them to justice.
25:43Without a licence plate,
25:45Matt needs more evidence
25:46to help him find the van
25:48and the wanted suspect.
25:51We've also got further footage
25:54of two males that stop
25:56just after this.
25:57This will be these headlines here.
26:00The 999 call
26:02has been made
26:03on one of these lads' phones
26:04and the phone was passed
26:06to another male on scene
26:07who found this female.
26:12So, at this time,
26:13we don't know who this person is.
26:17So we could do with identifying him.
26:36With the victim still fighting for her life in hospital,
26:40Matt conducts an area search.
26:43We've identified our vehicle as a white van
26:47and what will be distinctive about this van
26:50it's clearly going to have front-end damage
26:52from the impact with the pedestrian.
27:00looking at the map
27:01and driving around
27:01the side road
27:03where this has happened
27:04is a dead end
27:05so there's only one way in
27:07and one way out.
27:08We don't have any footage
27:09of this van leaving the area
27:11so
27:12it's got to be in that dead end somewhere.
27:17I conduct a search
27:18of the cordy-sac
27:19and I find
27:21a white Vivaro van.
27:27It's got some extensive
27:28dents and damage
27:30to the bonnet.
27:32The van looks like
27:33it was involved in a crash
27:34but there is no proof
27:36that the damage was caused
27:37by the hit and run.
27:41First job
27:42is to check
27:43the registration plate
27:45of the vehicle.
27:47It's a rental van
27:48but it's insured
27:49to somebody locally
27:50but not the address
27:51of the driveway
27:52that the van is parked on.
27:56The next stage
27:58is obviously establishing
28:00whose house that is
28:01and how are they linked
28:02to the van.
28:09There's further CCTV
28:10in the window of that address.
28:15And the person
28:17of that address
28:17is allowing
28:19a neighbour
28:20to park
28:21their van
28:22on that driveway.
28:27Their CCTV
28:28shows a male
28:30getting in the van
28:31earlier that day
28:32and leaving.
28:45our inquiries
28:46take us to the address
28:48that this male
28:48is staying at
28:49and we speak to a female
28:50at that address
28:51who confirms
28:52that the insured
28:54party of this van
28:55is a friend of hers.
28:58and he'd been
28:59to a funeral
29:00that particular day.
29:01She then states
29:02that he'd been drinking
29:04at one of the local
29:05pubs in the area.
29:08CCTV from the pub
29:10could help provide
29:11further evidence.
29:15Right, OK.
29:19So, this has the time
29:21at quarter past six
29:23in the evening.
29:26And this shows
29:27our suspected
29:28offending vehicle
29:29entering the car park.
29:31The vehicle parks up
29:32and the person
29:36who gets out
29:36of that vehicle
29:37is who we believe
29:38to be the same person
29:39from the earlier footage.
29:45We can identify
29:46our man
29:47at the bar
29:48and we've got footage
29:49throughout his
29:51just over three hours
29:52in the pub
29:53where he's sat at the bar.
29:56And at the end of this
29:58we cut back
29:59to the car park
30:01and we see
30:02our suspect again
30:04is entering that van
30:05after spending
30:06an evening in that pub.
30:09One of the key
30:09pieces of evidence
30:10as this individual
30:12leaves the pub
30:13car park in the van
30:14it's clear on the CCTV
30:16there is no damage
30:17to the bonnet.
30:18This is only minutes
30:19before the collision occurs.
30:22Matt now has
30:24enough evidence
30:25to arrest the van driver.
30:27It's another aggravating factor
30:29in the lead up
30:30to the collision.
30:32Shocking.
30:42A day after the suspected
30:44hit and run
30:44the casualty remains
30:46in a critical condition.
30:50But there's
30:51an unexpected development.
30:53Obviously something's
30:55happened yesterday.
30:56The suspect driver
30:58arrives at the police station.
31:00So the minute you're under arrest
31:01causing serious injury
31:02by a dangerous drive
31:03and then stop
31:04at the scene of a collision.
31:05OK?
31:07I felt frustrated
31:08that we didn't catch up
31:09with him
31:10on the evening.
31:11He avoided the police.
31:13He didn't stop.
31:14He ran away.
31:20So we'll take you
31:20to the police station
31:21get you interviewed about it.
31:23I came to
31:23be completely open anyway.
31:26OK.
31:26Just be honest.
31:27Yeah, that's fine.
31:28Obviously you're under caution
31:29so you'll be interviewed about it
31:31and then you can say
31:31your side of the story
31:32and interview
31:32about what's happened.
31:34People who make off
31:35from collisions
31:37obviously have something to hide.
31:39I can understand
31:40people may panic
31:41but you have to stop
31:43and face up to the consequences
31:45of what you've done.
31:46This person has left
31:47this woman to die
31:48at the side of the road
31:49and it's unforgivable.
31:52So we'll get you off to us today.
31:55I don't need to handcuff you
31:56or anything.
31:56You're going to be all right with you?
31:57Yeah.
31:58All right.
31:58So we'll jump in the back of the car.
31:59First time ever in the police station.
32:01OK.
32:03The only thing he cares about
32:05is self-preservation.
32:07He has not given a thought
32:08to the state of the person
32:10he's just put in hospital
32:12in a life-threatening condition.
32:15The CCTV also reveals
32:17one more chilling detail.
32:20So does this lady know
32:21what's happened to her?
32:22I think she's fell off the curb.
32:26Police believe the van driver
32:28is one of the men
32:29heard on the 999 call.
32:32Listening to the 999 call
32:34made to the ambulance service
32:35suggesting that she's fallen off the curb
32:38just to deflect the blame
32:39away from himself.
32:40She definitely needs medical help.
32:44It's just really cold
32:45to listen to this.
32:48He's just thinking about himself
32:50and his future
32:51and how best to avoid
32:53being a prosecutor for this.
32:59Coming up...
33:00We're now at speed 120.
33:03A police camera
33:04locates a wanted vehicle...
33:06It's got a marker on
33:06for being involved
33:07in high-value theft.
33:08...carrying a suspicious load.
33:11It's in boxes.
33:12...
33:28Go ahead.
33:29Even a vehicle through for me, please.
33:31What's here?
33:31A camera on the motorway.
33:34With thousands of vehicles
33:36linked to crime
33:37on the move every day,
33:38traffic cops like Andy Swift
33:40rely on police tech
33:42and cameras
33:43to track them down.
33:45Looks like it's possibly gone
33:47in the last half an hour.
33:49It's got a marker on from Kent
33:50being involved in high-value theft.
33:53Put a job on.
33:53I've got to say we'll stop that.
33:55Lovely, I will do.
33:58Near Chesterfield,
33:59Andy's onboard computer
34:00has been alerted
34:01by a suspect vehicle.
34:03There's been a vehicle
34:04that's been sighted
34:05that's linked to high-value theft
34:07north on the motorway,
34:08so I'm going to see
34:09if you can spot it.
34:12The main thing for me
34:13in regards to the suit
34:14is the great unknown.
34:15The driver is potentially wanted,
34:16so there's a little bit more
34:18sort of a state.
34:20They might not want to hang around.
34:21They might do anything
34:22in their power
34:23to get away from it.
34:25As Andy turns off
34:26his blue lights...
34:29Oh, I'm behind it.
34:30...he spots the wanted vehicle
34:32on the motorway.
34:34Just literally the entry.
34:37We've had a confirmed sighting
34:39of the vehicle.
34:40Have we got any units
34:40in the vicinity
34:41to make the way?
34:43...all in the vicinity.
34:47PC Alex Head
34:48is en route to assist.
34:50Yeah, I'll just wait
34:50for you to catch up, mate.
34:52Heading up there now.
34:54You never know
34:54what people are like
34:55you're going to deal with.
34:56You don't know
34:56how people are going to react.
34:57You just have to sort of
34:58try and get everything in line,
34:59try and get your colleagues
35:00with you.
35:01You can hang him round,
35:03is he?
35:04Anyway,
35:05that vehicle's up
35:06to 110 mile an hour.
35:08Lane 3,
35:09M1 northbound.
35:10We're now
35:11speed
35:12120.
35:15Full delivery,
35:16high performance vehicle,
35:17advanced driver,
35:17TPAC train.
35:18Can you just make
35:19M pass away as well,
35:20please?
35:21The vehicle is travelling
35:22at 120 miles per hour.
35:25Have you attempted
35:26to put a stop in on it?
35:27No negative.
35:29Yeah, I was so fine.
35:30It's just four to stop.
35:34Vehicle brakes
35:35are now down to 70.
35:36I don't know
35:36whether he's braking
35:37because of me
35:37or he's braking
35:38because it's for the gantries.
35:41BND check.
35:42Link from the fences.
35:44Dealing from
35:45the stronger vehicle.
35:47Yeah.
35:48And a vehicle
35:48increase your speed.
35:49We're now speed
35:50100 and accelerating
35:52lane four.
35:54Alex,
35:54it's going to come
35:55down to one lane, mate.
35:57It's got 600-yard
35:58marker board.
35:59It's blocked
36:00by other traffic
36:01and they'll try
36:01and take it off somewhere.
36:02Both units
36:03are now behind
36:04the wanted vehicle.
36:06I'm just going
36:07to the signal lane.
36:12Massively
36:13getting right up
36:14behind the car transporter
36:16in front of it,
36:16heavily braking.
36:17It's very strange behaviour.
36:20It's like he wants
36:21to go into the closure.
36:24He must know
36:25it's a police car.
36:29The roadworks have gone.
36:30The vehicle is
36:31committed, committed.
36:33Speed is currently
36:349-0.
36:36I'm wondering
36:37there's at least
36:37two people in the vehicle
36:38because there's been
36:39cigarettes thrown
36:40from both the near side
36:41and the off side.
36:41No worries, mate.
36:47Approaching a service station
36:48Andy holds the traffic back
36:50while Alex moves ahead
36:52to direct the vehicle
36:53off the motorway.
37:11Yeah, that's received.
37:17Late vehicle stopped.
37:19What do you mean?
37:19How come you got pulled?
37:21Why do you think
37:22you got pulled?
37:23Have you seen your
37:24speed on the motorway?
37:26Because I've been behind you
37:28for about three junctions
37:29and at one point
37:30we were at 120 miles an hour.
37:33Why are you going
37:34120 miles an hour
37:36and driving like an idiot?
37:45Can you talk?
37:47Because you seem
37:48not be able to.
37:50Come and step out anyway.
37:51Is it your car?
37:53Who's is it?
37:54Have you got insurance
37:55to drive it?
37:56Lovely.
37:56What, on your own policy
37:57or what?
37:58Yeah.
37:58Lovely.
37:58Also, you're both
37:59a pair of litter bugs.
38:01Chucking cigarettes
38:02out of the motorway,
38:03aren't you?
38:03I watched you.
38:05Disgraceful individuals.
38:06Get in the back of my car.
38:10There's a suspicion
38:11of that vehicle
38:12involved in potentially
38:14high-value theft,
38:15so right now
38:16we're going to just
38:16be searching that vehicle.
38:17Is there anything
38:18in the vehicle
38:19that I need to be aware of?
38:20No?
38:21No, no, no.
38:23I feel like this girl's
38:24been slump safe,
38:25all right?
38:26While Alex
38:27searches the car...
38:29Is there anything
38:29in this car
38:30yours?
38:33And he deals
38:34with the driver.
38:35Have you got any idea
38:36on your driver's licence
38:37or anything?
38:38Oh, yes.
38:40Does the uncle
38:40know you've got his car,
38:41I assume?
38:42Yeah.
38:42The young driver
38:43says the car,
38:44which is linked
38:45to theft and drug dealing,
38:46is his uncle's.
38:48Your driver's atrocious,
38:49mate.
38:49At one point,
38:50you're going like
38:5180 mile an hour,
38:52then you're doing 120,
38:53then you're dying to 70.
38:54It's all over the shop.
39:00This is more important
39:01than Snapchat.
39:02No, I'm just letting
39:03everyone know.
39:05Will I get points for?
39:07Mate, the amount of speed
39:08you're going to be,
39:08you'll get banned from driving,
39:09most likely.
39:10Most likely I'll get
39:10disqualified.
39:11So, obviously,
39:12I've been behind
39:12and recording for about
39:14six miles, mate.
39:14So, it's a street ban?
39:16Well, you're going
39:17120 mile an hour
39:17at one point,
39:19and obviously you can't,
39:20if anything...
39:20There's no way
39:21I could do like a course
39:22as well.
39:22Not at that speed.
39:23No, no.
39:24Anything over 96 mile an hour
39:25on a motorway
39:26is an instant ban.
39:27How long does a ban for?
39:29It depends.
39:30It's up to their
39:30discretion at court.
39:43Sink boxes.
39:44Sorry?
39:44Sink boxes.
39:47The cigarettes.
39:49Why have you got
39:50that many cigarettes?
39:52I'm going to my uncle's house,
39:53son?
39:54Your uncle's house
39:55with that many cigarettes?
39:57Yeah.
39:59There's none of the
40:00cancer aware stickers
40:02or anything like that
40:02on these,
40:04so I don't think
40:05these are legitimate
40:05for UK sales.
40:07Somebody's selling
40:08illegal cigarette.
40:09Tinted.
40:10Where have you purchased
40:11them?
40:12Supple.
40:13What, like in the UK?
40:15Yeah, in the UK.
40:17Why would you carry
40:18cigarettes?
40:19No, because I'm...
40:20bin liners.
40:22I'd just say seize them.
40:23Let trading standards
40:24sort it out.
40:25We're going to seize
40:25all the cigarettes, mate.
40:26I'm going to take them off you.
40:27Alright?
40:27I don't think you've
40:28paid duty on them.
40:29I don't think they're legit.
40:30We'll give you our details,
40:31we'll seize them,
40:32and if you can prove
40:33where you've had them
40:33from legitimately in the UK
40:34and paid tax on them,
40:35you can have them back.
40:36Alright?
40:38We'll have a seat
40:39in your car.
40:44106 per sleeve
40:46and that's 50 sleeves
40:47per box.
40:48We're talking...
40:5030,000 cigarettes.
40:53And I somehow doubt
40:54they've paid value-added
40:55tax at 20%.
40:57The cigarettes
40:58could have a retail value
41:00of up to £15,000.
41:03I'll belt them in.
41:06We'll give you
41:06the instant number.
41:07If you can prove
41:08they're legitimate,
41:09then by all means
41:10you can have them back.
41:11Selling illegal cigarettes
41:13can result in
41:14an unlimited fine
41:15and a prison sentence.
41:17You'll be dealt with
41:18for the speeding by us.
41:19Yeah, his driving
41:20wasn't brilliant.
41:21His speed's well in excess
41:22then back down
41:23and back up.
41:24He's either incredibly
41:25inattentive about
41:26seeing what's around him
41:27to not see my vehicle
41:28or he just doesn't really
41:30know what he's doing.
41:31All good.
41:31Slow down, mate.
41:32Your driving's atrocious.
41:34He'll be someone's decor
41:35where he'll have to
41:36obviously answer for it.
41:37His speed
41:37and his manner of driving
41:38will reduce the
41:39footage out of there
41:40which is pretty damning
41:40and then he'll
41:41obviously have to
41:42face the consequence
41:43which is most likely
41:44to be a ban.
41:49There are over
41:5018,000 police cameras
41:52across the UK
41:53that record
41:54over 90 million
41:56number plate readings
41:57each day.
41:59You never know
42:00what that person's capable of,
42:02why they're running away,
42:03what they've done.
42:04So you just want to find
42:05where they are.
42:05sometimes you've just
42:07got to use the power
42:08of modern technology.
42:10CCTV, body-worn,
42:13ANPR cameras,
42:14it provides the evidence
42:15that we need.
42:16It's a great tool to have.
42:20We rely on a constant
42:23flow of intelligence
42:24but some good old coppers
42:26now can also uncover
42:28these people.
42:32in this episode.
42:34Are they pissing me off?
42:35Get your scrawny hands off me.
42:36Well this is just going to
42:36make it go on.
42:37Did he just punch that window?
42:39Yeah.

42:53He was released
42:54without charge.
42:57Home sweet home.
43:01Reports of a chap
43:03in a tent,

43:21to 12 months
43:22in prison
43:22and received
43:24a restraining order
43:25for three years.
43:35Well, that's horrendous.
43:37After a hit and run
43:38that left a woman
43:39fighting for her life.
43:41She's probably blown.
43:42The back of her head
43:43split open.
43:44The driver pleaded guilty
43:45to causing serious injury
43:47through dangerous driving.

44:18at 120 miles an hour.
44:20This is more important
44:21than Snapchat.
44:22Received four points
44:23on his license,
44:24a fine
44:25and was ordered
44:26to pay court costs.
44:28Someone's selling
44:28illegal cigarettes.
44:30He did not provide
44:31proof of purchase
44:32for the 30,000 cigarettes
44:34that were seized
