00:00Well, there's an active player who might be playing his way into the GOAT conversation with these people,
00:06and that person is Shohei Ohtani.
00:09That person is Shohei Ohtani, and are we ready to have that conversation?
00:15Well, ready or not, we're about to have it.
00:16We already know that he has four MVPs, four MVPs and two championships already.
00:23We already know the double that he's pulling with both hitting and pitching,
00:29something we haven't seen since Babe Ruth.
00:31Again, I don't know who Babe Ruth was pitching to.
00:33Might have been taxi drivers, but the point is he did it, and now Ohtani's doing it.
00:38And so far this season, on the Dodgers, say whatever you want,
00:43oh, he's only batting 240 so far, we know he'll get his numbers.
00:45He has a sub-1 ERA.
00:49So far, Shohei Ohtani has a .82 ERA.
00:54He's doing things we haven't seen,
00:56and there's nobody listening or watching this show that saw Babe Ruth play.
01:01We are seeing something regularly, every fifth day, that we've never seen before.
01:07Baseball had to change rules to allow that guy to exit the game as a pitcher
01:11and stay in the game as a hitter.
01:14They had to change rules for this guy.
01:16He's special.
01:18The question really only remains, how long does he have to do it
01:22to join that illustrious group that you see right there on the screen?
01:27And for me, he's maybe a year away.
01:33He's maybe a year or two years away from saying that Shohei Ohtani
01:37is the greatest baseball player we've ever seen.
01:42And I'm going to say it again because this does not seem to be getting talked about.
01:46How much longer does a guy have to hit 50 home runs
01:49and pitch every fifth day before we recognize that as much as I love Willie Mays,
01:55okay, the starting center fielder on the All-Heaven team,
01:59that Ohtani can be the number one player ever.
02:02Now, I recognize the Japanese thing and all that stuff.
02:05It might make it uncomfortable.
02:06And for some people, it will always be Babe Ruth.
02:08But you know you're wrong because you don't think Babe Ruth
02:11would be striking people out today.
02:13You don't think that.
02:14Even if you get – you know what Babe Ruth's habits were.
02:16Even if he had today's nutrition and today's this and that,
02:19you know he still would have today's vodka.
02:21You know he still have today's beer.
02:23You know he still have today's fried chicken.
02:26Babe Ruth would not be as great an athlete today if he was back then.
02:29That's just a fact and we know it, okay?
02:32Say, Shoei Ohtani, if he continues to do this for this year to complete this year
02:37and does it by next year, we're going to have to say out loud
02:40that he's the greatest baseball player in the history of the sport.
02:46And while the American impact may not be felt by everybody right away,
02:52we now have to say we have nine international NFL games.
02:56Now, I don't like that, but they're trying to go international with their game
02:59for whatever reason they think is great.
03:01Basketball has long become a global game in the NBA.
03:05You see Dirk, you see Luka, you see all these guys.
03:07I mean, SGA's going to win MVP again.
03:11When was the last time we had an American MVP?
03:13Because he's Canadian.
03:15You had Embiid, you had Jokic.
03:18When was the last time we had Giannis from Greece?
03:20When was the last time we had an American MVP?
03:22It's a global game.
03:23Now, tell me Otani is not making this, helping this game become even more global,
03:29being from Japan.
03:30I know it might be uncomfortable, but I'll say it right now.
03:35Shohei Otani is 18 months away from being the greatest baseball player in baseball history.
03:46He's that close.
03:47He's that special.
03:49And we need to appreciate it.
03:50Being a person that lives on the East Coast, I wish he wasn't always with the Dodgers
03:54with the late-night games so I can watch more of it.
03:56But this guy is a modern marvel, and I don't think there's going to be another one of him
04:01around the corner.
04:03It's going to be a generation before we have another player that even tries to do what Otani does.
04:09Pitch every fifth day and hit 50 and 60 home runs?
04:12This is not normal, and we shouldn't pretend like it's normal just because he's from Japan.
04:19Man, let me tell you, if he was from the Dominican Republic, if he was from Atlanta,
04:24this guy would be more popular than every other athlete in this country.
04:28But he might be.
04:30He's definitely the most famous baseball player in the world, and he's becoming quickly,
04:36quickly, the best baseball player we've ever seen, period.
04:41Sohail Otani is the GOAT.
