00:00What is the timeline of you and Hole and Smashing Pumpkins and all that you're involved in?
00:07Like my bio thing?
00:07Yeah, real quick.
00:08Well, first of all, my book is an ode to the last analog decade.
00:12So I didn't write my entire memoir.
00:14I wrote my origin story with my cool parents.
00:17But really, it's 1991 to 2001, the decade that defined me and my generation.
00:22So the book is a bite size of that.
00:24And I follow the arc of alternative rock music as a music fan who then gets to join these crazy
00:30bands.
00:31And I really was a music fan.
00:32Like I was a pumpkin.
00:33Pumpkins is why I picked up the bass.
00:35And Billy is in my book.
00:38I probably is my spiritual effing cowboy where he sort of finds me, plucks me from obscurity, recommends me to
00:44Hole.
00:45Then when I'm done with Hole, I join the Pumpkins.
00:46So my timeline is I join Hole in 94.
00:50They're about to promote Live Through This.
00:52They've lost their bass player.
00:53She's lost her husband.
00:55I come replace.
00:56I come and like join in the valley of death and grief.
01:00And then we record Celebrity Skin post that, which was a huge lift.
01:07And I don't know if you remember.
01:08It took a few years for that record to happen.
01:12Billy kind of came in and out.
01:13Billy then came and sort of helped us with the record.
01:16And so Billy was sort of weaving back in.
01:17And then when I was, I left Hole after our Celebrity Skin tour, Courtney was becoming a Hollywood movie star.
01:24I wanted to make music.
01:25We had done what we had set out to do, which was put women like on the front lines of
01:30mainstream rock music.
01:32But she got sort of swayed into this other career.
01:36And then I sort of left a little upset.
01:39Yet it was the end of the 90s.
01:42We all were kind of existential.
01:44And then that's when Billy decided he was going to do his farewell pumpkins tour.
01:48And Darcy sort of went MIA.
01:50And I then joined my favorite band.
01:52Wow.
01:53I had like a back-to-back.
01:54And so I rode the crest of the new millennium in the Smashing Conference.
