00:00We have these guys from Tobago. Yeah, good morning.
00:02Yeah, man.
00:02First of all, right?
00:04Yes.
00:04Nice. Great, man. Happy to have you around.
00:06This next shop here, everything cool?
00:09Good.
00:09I didn't quite get your name again.
00:11Jamari.
00:12Jamari. Right, great.
00:13And we have the whole grantee here.
00:14What do you want now, buddy?
00:15Well, first time, but 2026 are here.
00:18Yeah, I know you're not going to make it, but I'm going in.
00:22I'm going to show.
00:22That is all right, man.
00:24Yeah.
00:25Yeah, I just let them come down, ready to go already.
00:27Ready, ready, ready.
00:27Nice, man. We have Neil here.
00:28Morning, morning, morning.
00:30Nice, man.
00:31Morning, guys.
00:31We know Stefan always going short, but he always did.
00:36Yeah.
00:36It's 3.20 a.m. on Saturday, May 9th,
00:39and Shamuddin Salim is doing his roll call of the Coconut Rim cyclists,
00:44attempting to complete the 145-plus mile coast-to-coast challenge.
00:49The likes of Glenna Sophia and Don El Cameron, among others,
00:53ensuring they were prepared and ready to pedal
00:55before the sun came up at Price Plaza in Chaguanas.
00:59The flickering lights down the highway, a sign that progress is underway,
01:03and from the looks of it, they were enjoying the experience.
01:07They were moving at a brisk pace.
01:10As Salim explained, they were an hour ahead of time.
01:13Actually, this year, we were like an hour ahead of time.
01:19I don't know how.
01:20So, probably good weather and everything, you know, we were moving on good time.
01:25But I want to believe, the reason being is that we had no hiccups on the road,
01:31because last year we got some flats and stuff like that.
01:34So, this year we had nothing, no problems like that.
01:37So, we were just moving on to point A to B to C to D and so forth.
01:42Some would argue that the best part about this was the cool down at the various stops.
01:47It helps to battle the heat.
01:48I personally got some cramps in the finishing stages,
01:54because remember last year I would have done 145 miles,
01:59and this year the ride was 145 plus.
02:02So, I just had to do like two miles just to beat my last year marker.
02:06My partner, which is Paul, he tried to coach me into doing 150 miles,
02:14but I said, no, if I do that it will be harder for me next year.
02:17I said, no, no, no, I go to this two miles more.
02:19If it's one thing about this group, they captured every moment at their respective stops.
02:24And what's a ride by coconut rim cyclists without a few coconut trees in the background?
02:29What I learned is that it's not about how much we can do,
02:34it's how much we can do together as a team.
02:37And that was our goal this year, right?
02:43That was our goal this year.
02:44We tried to keep the team as much as possible together to finish together.
02:51It was a journey worth toasting to as they met long-time friends along the way.
02:57Approximately 15 cyclists completed the full distance.
03:00It took them approximately 9 hours and 23 minutes to complete it.
03:05They left Price Plaza at approximately 3.20 a.m. and returned at about 5 p.m.
03:11A sore bunch but happy all the same as Salim completes his 147 mile birthday ride.
03:19Stay tuned for a TV 6.
