00:48A spectacular coastline shaped by nature is the stunning backdrop for a motorcycling
00:56event built by generations.
00:58This is the one and only Northwest 200.
01:21For almost a century, the best road racers have come here to Northern Ireland to test their
01:27nerve, precision and skill on one of the world's fastest motorcycling circuits.
01:33180 miles an hour we're talking about here.
01:35There's Harrison, right up against the white line at 200 miles an hour.
01:41Long straights, heavy braking zones and flat out speeds that regularly push beyond 200 miles
01:49per hour.
01:50Coupled with the spectacular scenery make the Northwest a true bucket list sporting event
01:56which takes place every May.
02:02Its history, atmosphere and heart-pounding action captivate millions of people around the globe
02:09every year.
02:17Welcome to our final instalment from the 2026 Briggs Equipment Northwest 200.
02:24Coming up we've another hour of some of the best motorsport action you will ever see.
02:29I'm here at the famous Giants Causeway which is just a stone's throw away from the closed
02:35roads public circuit which yet again has produced some unbelievable racing.
02:41Here's how the drama has unfolded so far.
02:50Oh, McWilliams has left a big enough gap for Hickman to get under him.
02:54Hickman then has got it covered and he's underneath Jeremy McWilliams.
02:58He will regret he did that.
03:02Peter Hickman, top step then.
03:04He is the man when it comes to the Super Twins race.
03:07Peter Hickman takes that win and stands on the top step.
03:22And Glenn Irwin does it again.
03:24He is the master.
03:26That takes him to 12 wins for Glenn Irwin in the top class Superbike.
03:31Brilliant from Glenn Irwin.
03:33Can anybody beat Glenn Irwin around here on a Superbike?
03:38There he is on the top step of the podium.
03:41The man is a magician.
03:48Oh, look at this.
03:49Hello.
03:50Straight into the slipstream and way past.
03:53Sealy up the inside of Dunlop.
03:55Dunlop had to pick it up.
03:56Oh, Dunlop got back underneath.
03:57Sealy's around the outside.
03:59Who's going to get into Church first?
04:00And it's Sealy.
04:01Oh, hang on.
04:03Coops.
04:03Oh, Coops has rammed him.
04:05Coops got it all wrong.
04:06Super Sport class delivers again.
04:08Dunlop, Harrison, Brooks.
04:11They're all looking so sharp.
04:13Dunlop is going to do the business.
04:15So it's a win for Michael Dunlop.
04:17Popular here, of course, in Northern Ireland.
04:22Well, it's still a very sunny, windy,
04:25but pretty chilly main race day here at the Northwest 200.
04:29The Superstock race is next.
04:31And I'm joined by a man who has won the Superstock race before
04:34here at the Northwest 200, Davey Todd.
04:37Davey, this race is always so competitive.
04:41Absolutely.
04:41It is.
04:42It's perfect with the regulations that are in the Superstock class.
04:46It keeps everybody pretty restricted.
04:47And it also makes for the lower down the grid riders
04:52or lower budget teams able to have a competitive bike
04:55because it's not the big expense of a Superbike.
04:58So it evens up the playing field,
05:00puts it down to the rider and makes for some good racing.
05:03Michael Dunlop is in pole position.
05:05He's already had one win here this year,
05:08but there are a host of contenders
05:10who will be in the mix here, surely.
05:12Absolutely.
05:13You know Dean Harrison's going to be strong yet again in another class.
05:16He runs his Superbike in quite a Superstock spec now.
05:21So he'll be jumping on a bike that's really familiar to him,
05:24which will definitely help.
05:26We know Richard Cooper's going to be strong
05:27because he's riding his Superstock bike in the Superbike class as well.
05:31Who can count anybody out?
05:32There's a bunch of riders who we know are going to be very strong.
05:35Storm Stacey here for the first time.
05:38He's a star in the British Superbike Championship.
05:41Could he squeeze himself onto the podium in his first year, do you think?
05:43Well, he's definitely been wrestling the big Ducati round in the Superbike class,
05:48but he's made no crimes about saying how happy he is with a BMW Superstock bike.
05:55He said he really likes the bike, it's really stable,
05:57so I think he's going to be competitive in this one.
05:59He certainly is.
06:00But here's Lee Johnson, five times Northwest 200 winner, to explain this class.
06:08So the number six, Michael Dunlop chasing the 74.
06:12Dean Harrison, very, very smooth indeed.
06:15Davey Topper on board with nice clear track for him.
06:18What a vista.
06:19Oh, that's not so good though.
06:20Hello.
06:20Michael Dunlop has just blocked out the sunlight.
06:23Look at this.
06:24Hutchie drops into second place on lap one.
06:26Terrific start from him.
06:29Superstock class.
06:30We have come down to Team RST to have a quick look at Ian Hutchison's Superstock bike.
06:35In my opinion, this is the best class for bang for your buck.
06:39This bike is capable of doing over 205 miles per hour.
06:43Quite a lot of the competitors also run this bike in the Superbike class.
06:47When I say quite a lot, there's probably only 10 full blown Superbikes here at the Northwest 200.
06:53And the reason for that is these bikes are capable of being right at the front of the Superbike class
06:58as well.
06:59Minor changes to this bike.
07:01You can see just looking through it for cost.
07:03You can put brake pads in, no calibre changes.
07:07Fork internals in.
07:08The fork outers have to stay the same.
07:10Rear suspension can get changed.
07:12Full exhaust system.
07:13And one of the things you see on this bike is there's a bigger capacity fuel tank.
07:18That's more so for the Isle of Man TT.
07:20Most of the riders will run it here just to get used to that feeling.
07:24This bike is upwards of £45,000 to £50,000.
07:27Making it a lot cheaper than the Superbike class, but also competitive in it.
07:38So it's time to go racing and to join our commentary team, Steve Parrish and former Northwest 200 winner, Keith
07:45Hewitt.
07:47Superstock and the grid is full of quick motorcycles and quick men.
07:52It is on pole.
07:53Michael Dunlop from Richard Cooper and Dean Harrison.
07:56Storm Stacey.
07:57Josh Brooks, Paul Jordan on row two.
07:59Ian Hutchinson, Dom Herbertson and John McGuinness on row three.
08:02Four is Carl Phillips, David Johnson, Gary McCoy.
08:05Mitch Rees has been going well.
08:07Mike Brown, Sam West, Laurent Hoffman, Marcus Simpson and Maurizio Vitalica.
08:11Watch the lights when they go out.
08:13You can hear the BMW crackling for the launch control.
08:17And Michael Dunlop on the right hand side of your screen.
08:18But look, Storm Stacey on the 79 machine comes through.
08:21He's on the BMW.
08:22He's got the novice jacket on.
08:24But it is Stacey who leads down the hill.
08:26We're looking back from Dean Harrison at Michael Dunlop.
08:29Now then, as we get to the York corner, Amici corner as it's been renamed this week.
08:34And we wait for the braking area.
08:36It is Storm Stacey who's gone off like a storm.
08:38Unreal.
08:39Into the bottom gear.
08:40Left-hand corner.
08:41Decided to ride the BMW, of course.
08:43It's his production stock bike for this class.
08:47Everybody through safely.
08:48Yeah.
08:48And Storm Stacey's now got the orange leathers on at the top now instead of the jacket.
08:52Because he's changed leathers for the BMW team.
08:55Looks good though.
08:56Down through the gearbox.
08:57Two mil road for the first time.
08:59Full tank of fuel.
09:00The actual track temperature's going up, but it's not getting any warmer.
09:03It looks beautiful out there.
09:04And it is beautiful, but the wind is cutting.
09:08It is right in from the sea.
09:10And the wind is behind us as we go now down towards station corner for the first time.
09:15You'll see the wind sock in the air that gives them a bit of an idea of where it's blowing
09:20from.
09:20Which direction it is.
09:21There it is.
09:22It's coming across from left to right.
09:24But now it's right up behind them.
09:26Storm Stacey and co are battling away at the front while we are side by side.
09:32200 miles an hour.
09:33Very nearly.
09:34And it will be 200 miles an hour with the wind behind.
09:36And a bit of slipstream as well.
09:38Yeah.
09:38Phenomenal speeds we've got down in.
09:40And you see the helicopter up there struggling to keep up.
09:42He has to keep cutting the corners.
09:44And that is Josh Brooks behind us.
09:46Number 25 on the inside on the Dow machine.
09:48Looks good in its resplendent new colours for this particular race meeting.
09:52It is at university and everybody.
09:54All the main men are through.
09:56Absolutely outstanding.
09:57Let's take a look then from Ian Hutchinson on board.
10:00Storm Stacey absolutely got off the line so well.
10:03Hutchie's got to find a way through if he can on a number 12 machine.
10:05No chance.
10:06Dunlop in front of us.
10:07Yeah, they have launch control on those things.
10:09They hold them flat out and then feed that clutch in and it should give you the maximum torque.
10:13Through the magic roundabout we're going right now.
10:15Turning right up towards the Mathes-Gloss chicane now.
10:19Bumpiest part on the circuit all the riders are telling us at this point.
10:22Into a headwind though as we go back down towards the Portrush area.
10:27And we see Josh Brooks going by but I haven't seen anyone out.
10:30Break storm Stacey and the bikes are wriggling around on this bumpiest part.
10:34You can see what's going on but Stacey is so late.
10:36Short circuit riding, that's what he does.
10:38First, it's incredible to think it's his first time here.
10:41Just talk about duck to water.
10:43Yeah, that is something that a short circuit rider that is absolutely honed to perfection on the brake.
10:48Sticking it all on the front end.
10:50You wouldn't normally risk it quite as much on a road circuit but Stacey doesn't know any different.
10:54He's too young to know what he can't do with that bike.
10:56Yeah, he is riding it so well.
10:58But there you go.
10:59There is Josh Brooks.
11:01Straight down.
11:02I said no one's outbraking but Brooks has at that point.
11:04He's riding extremely well.
11:05Right behind his number three, Dean Harrison on the Honda Dunlop.
11:08It's looking good.
11:09Stacey again.
11:10Look at him down the inside.
11:12The bike is all over the place.
11:14Yeah, but he's animated as well, isn't he?
11:15I think that the Honda in super stock trim is a real weapon.
11:19It looks really good.
11:20Yeah, it cuts back to a late apex though but he's got it covered on the way to church.
11:23I just think that Storm Stacey is working out better and better lines and probably teaching some of these veterans
11:29that know this track so well of new places you can put a motorbike around here.
11:33Quite possibly he is.
11:35He is riding extremely well.
11:36That is, of course, the BMW, the number 79.
11:39We're looking at Harrison there.
11:42This is where Josh...
11:42Yeah, up the inside.
11:43Josh Brooks.
11:44This is a passing place.
11:45It's the...
11:46Oh!
11:46Not like that.
11:48It's a good job it's been dry here because normally green is slippery but not in this case.
11:53Josh Brooks then takes to the grass and doesn't end up on something that rhymes with it.
11:57Oh, you can just see.
11:58He gets in there hot.
11:59He's way too fast.
12:00The front end is buried into the tarmac.
12:02He cannot pick it up enough across the grass he goes.
12:04Stacey, look at him just pulling to the inside to get that line back.
12:08Great view there.
12:09Dean Harrison had him third.
12:10Tell you what, Storm Stacey is growing in stature with every lap that he turns around this racetrack at the
12:14moment.
12:14He's looking so, so sharp.
12:16It's difficult to see or realise that he really could be a novice winner, a rookie winner around here.
12:23It's not been done on a big bike since Bruce Anstey.
12:26Remember the Kiwi?
12:27Yeah.
12:27One on a Superstop bike here for the first time.
12:29Superstop is near as you like as good as a Superbike, as fast as a Superbike.
12:33Here comes Brooks then back past Storm Stacey out of the slipstream.
12:37But Stacey, we know, is super sharp when it comes to the brakes and he will be at the end
12:40here when we get to university.
12:42Yeah, it's Honda versus BMW.
12:44Brooks on the Honda.
12:46How close do you like it?
12:48Unbelievable.
12:49Into that braking area.
12:50There just wasn't room to squeeze underneath him, I think.
12:52And that's where Stacey decided that discretion was the better part of valor.
12:57Here is the number three of Dean Harrison.
12:59Still looking.
13:00I say it every single time we commentate.
13:03Looking for his first win here at the Northwest 200.
13:06And he hasn't had it yet.
13:08Brooks out front.
13:10Stacey second.
13:11We've just seen Dunlop's gone through the speed trap at 211 miles an hour.
13:15That's way faster than any Superstock has ever done before.
13:18What Storm Stacey is finding parts of this track that you wouldn't normally want to be on.
13:21But it doesn't seem to bother him too much.
13:23That's for sure.
13:24He's got style on and off track as young Stacey.
13:2723 years old.
13:28He is turning out to be...
13:29He's going to increase his fan base.
13:31Probably double his fan base, I would suggest.
13:34Brought top hats here to sell.
13:35That's his kind of little memento and luck.
13:37Oh, Dean Harrison.
13:38Oh, he's broken down.
13:40That thing has stopped.
13:41He hasn't gone to the stop box because he's overshot.
13:43That's stopped.
13:44There is the stop box, by the way.
13:46Very unusual for Honda to do that.
13:48Very indeed.
13:49I wonder what the problem with that.
13:50Mentioning the top hat you did earlier on, there's a major significance to that top hat.
13:54That is not a gimmick, by the way.
13:56You can look up the reasons why Storm Stacey uses a top hat.
14:01It's all to do with family and loss and mental health.
14:06So, look it up.
14:07Check it out.
14:08Storm Stacey is a substantial young man.
14:11No doubt.
14:11And go and buy one.
14:13So, right.
14:14Stacey shouldn't be doing this, really, should he?
14:16He's just come here.
14:17He's really...
14:18Most of his qualifying and practice has been in rain and wet conditions, but he's come out in the dry
14:22track.
14:23Well, novices have won here before.
14:25That has been done before, Stevie.
14:28Yes, it has.
14:29You, in fact, wasn't it?
14:31That's why I led you to it.
14:32I knew that.
14:33I knew that was coming.
14:34But there you go.
14:35Plug for Esther Keith-Hewan, who did a wonderful job here on a TZ 750 Yamaha that was like a
14:40rat in a dog's mouth riding in that.
14:41Yeah, but it would have been in black and white.
14:43You wouldn't have seen it in colour.
14:44Here we go, then.
14:45Storm Stacey getting back to the job in hand.
14:47Storm Stacey at York, the Amici hairpin.
14:49Michael Dunlop now closing in.
14:51Michael Dunlop now in third place and closing down.
14:53Ian Hutchison is a long way back.
14:56Down towards one of the scariest corners on the circuit.
14:59Stacey there, Storm Stacey.
15:00A bit of a wriggle as he gets the power on, but in a super stock fight, just a little
15:04roll, I think.
15:05We'll have to see.
15:06But Josh Brooks is going.
15:06Dunlop.
15:07Dunlop, here he comes.
15:08He's got a double slipstream and he's coming around the outside.
15:11It's tight here, though.
15:12It gets so narrow.
15:13200 mile an hour.
15:15Fast enough as it is without the road narrowing as well.
15:17Stacey Brooks and Dunlop are fighting it out of the front here.
15:21We've seen Storm Stacey get out of control.
15:23Well, I say out of control.
15:25He controlled it pretty well when we saw him in the wet practice jumping over Primrose Hill.
15:29Almost lost it up there when he was taking some air, I think, is the young man's term.
15:33The corner entry is phenomenal.
15:35He's trusting the front end of that BMW so much.
15:37We saw him into that university corner.
15:39Short circuit riding.
15:40Yeah, three or four lengths.
15:41Right, here we go again.
15:42John McGinnis is fifth.
15:43John McGinnis keeping on the number one bike as well.
15:45He's in fifth place at the moment.
15:46He's 54 years old now.
15:48We keep talking about people that are getting a bit long in the tooth.
15:51Well, JM is still fast.
15:53Dunlop leads.
15:54He does for the first time.
15:56Dunlop out front now from Brooks, from Storm Stacey.
15:59Stacey is there.
16:00Stacey is...
16:01Wow!
16:02Hang on a minute.
16:02He's not going to be third for much longer because they're picking up a big slipstream.
16:06Michael Dunlop's got work to do from there.
16:08And the Honda, the Hawk Honda as it is.
16:11Stacey was blocked in there, definitely.
16:13Where's Josh Brooks gone now?
16:15He's got shoved out again.
16:16Down the path, I think.
16:18Right.
16:18I am betting that Storm Stacey will be taking a look when they get down to the Metropole.
16:22I think everyone, you just see how much they're working on.
16:24Storm Stacey, just 23 years old.
16:26Never been here before.
16:28And is he going to have a little go?
16:29A little nibble look?
16:30Too far back, I think, Steve.
16:31He's a little bit too far back.
16:32And Josh Brooks has taken that advantage as well.
16:34Storm Stacey around the outside.
16:35Hang on a minute.
16:36That's another line that we've not seen too much of, for sure.
16:39Michael Dunlop.
16:40Fans are on their feet, of course, for Dunlop.
16:42A home win would be something a little special for them in the Superstop race.
16:46Warming up nicely for the last Superbike race of the day.
16:49Later, of course.
16:49Stacey we're on board with now.
16:51And we are heading out towards the Coast Road.
16:55And Flick right now.
16:56A little bit of a wheelie if you're trying to be a showman,
16:59but you're really only lining yourself up for a pass down towards the chicane.
17:02Here comes Stacey.
17:03Stacey looking up the inside.
17:04He's got Josh Brooks.
17:06Will he get Dunlop as well?
17:07Not this time, perhaps.
17:08But he's positioned himself perfectly.
17:10You can see how much wind there is coming off the coast at the moment.
17:14Dunlop leads now from Storm Stacey.
17:16In very close attendance.
17:18Wheelies it out there.
17:19Gets on the gas a little earlier.
17:20Big black line being left there by Dunlop.
17:22And another one by Storm Stacey.
17:23As we come to the start and finish line again now.
17:26Dropped it through Juniper.
17:27Flex right now.
17:29Looks across to the right hand side.
17:30It's the last lap.
17:31You saw the last lap flag out there.
17:33It is the number six Michael Dunlop that leads.
17:37But Storm Stacey has put himself right out to the curb.
17:39And in a great position for putting a pass on Michael Dunlop.
17:43Dunlop has not got this done yet.
17:44I'm sure there's an awful lot of respect there for Dunlop.
17:47I'm talking about the youngster Storm Stacey.
17:49But he's not giving an inch there is he?
17:51He's giving it absolutely everything in the air there.
17:53Josh Brooks.
17:54No, not down the inside.
17:55Yes, yes, yes.
17:56He's done it again at York.
17:58He's good on the brakes.
17:59That's a bit of short circuit racing there for Storm Stacey.
18:02He is a BSB.
18:03Pretty super bike rider.
18:05And he is absolutely showing these road guys the way to go on his first ride.
18:10Look at this.
18:10Yeah, no.
18:11Look at that.
18:12Down the inside.
18:12Foot dragging on the floor.
18:14Throws it in there.
18:14Gets the apex as well.
18:15But not only that.
18:16Watch his line coming out of here.
18:17He takes it back over to the left side so he can get on the power cone up the hill.
18:21Yep.
18:22Storm Stacey then out front now.
18:24Storm Stacey looking good.
18:25Michael Dunlop gets a good slipstream, but there will be an opportunity for Stacey
18:28to slot in behind him and put himself in a good position when we get down to University
18:31on the brakes.
18:32If he waits that long, that BMW is lively.
18:34It got up in the air right there.
18:36We're on board now with Stacey.
18:38Down towards the braking area.
18:39Who hits the brakes first?
18:40I've got a feeling that Stacey will be looking for the inside if he can get to him.
18:43He goes to the inside.
18:44Now he slots back in again.
18:45We're in the braking area now.
18:47And Michael Dunlop is protecting that position as he drifts out.
18:51Yeah, he was.
18:51He definitely held that tight.
18:53Stacey looks at the inside almost up on the path.
18:55Over the link road now to the Valley Sally roundabout.
18:58And then we go back into the headwind down towards Port Rush.
19:01That was a smart move from Dunlop there.
19:02He blocked the line that Stacey normally uses, which gives him the speed through there,
19:05but he's closing.
19:06I think Storm Stacey is weighing this up, actually.
19:09I think you're right.
19:09You wouldn't believe that without the experience he's got around here,
19:12but he's worked out where he wants to be and what he wants to be.
19:14Josh Brooks, though, is looking to pick up all the pieces if these two make a mistake and they come
19:19together.
19:19Here we go then.
19:20Storm Stacey picks up that slipstream.
19:22Goes to the outside as it will be.
19:24Looks across.
19:25Straight across.
19:25They're looking at each other.
19:27Michael Dunlop and Storm Stacey.
19:28Mutual respect for these two, I would suggest.
19:30Storm Stacey, though, on the brakes is a little better than Dunlop into the chicane.
19:34Now then.
19:35Is that it?
19:36Has he got it done?
19:37There wasn't even room to put his leg out there.
19:39Well, he's almost hooked his knee on the back of Michael Dunlop on several occasions anyway when he's gone past
19:44it.
19:44Right then.
19:44The BMW's blasting down towards Port Rush now.
19:48Stacey got a bit of a lead here.
19:49You wouldn't expect to see him pass on the brakes.
19:52Here comes Dunlop, almost picking up slipstream.
19:54I think he was looking at the Dunlop going, I can't believe this is happening to me.
19:58I'm coming out here with a guy that's won most and Dunlop goes down the inside again.
20:01This will work for Storm Stacey in my opinion.
20:03Yes.
20:03He's good through here.
20:04If he gets the run out of here, we're down towards the Metropole and nobody really seems to have outbraked
20:09him today.
20:09Exactly that.
20:10That is exactly the way to read it, Steve, I believe.
20:13So, Storm Stacey, I don't think it was voluntary.
20:15I think Michael Dunlop made the pass anyway.
20:17But here we go.
20:18Dunlop keeping an inside line.
20:19Yes, he is.
20:19Keeping off the bumps and keeping an inside line.
20:22But Storm Stacey has moved back across as well.
20:24Metropole corner now.
20:25You go straight on.
20:26You go down to Port Rush, the town.
20:28He's kept that perfect.
20:29Storm Stacey has done a great job.
20:31Michael Dunlop, though, is usually a bit quick through this part up towards Church.
20:35It's huge.
20:36Not at all.
20:36Dunlop made a mistake.
20:38He must have made a mistake.
20:39Josh Brooks has gone through.
20:40That's it.
20:41Storm Stacey has absolutely done.
20:44He's outwitted Michael Dunlop here at the Northwest 200.
20:47That is astounding.
20:49Yeah, absolutely.
20:50And incredibly, taking the lap record as well.
20:53What a thing to be doing here.
20:54But Dunlop must have had a big moment.
20:55He's gone back past Josh Brooks now into that final chicane.
20:58Now, Stacey won't know the lead he's got.
21:00He will be trying.
21:01Last couple of corners.
21:02Keep it tidy.
21:03But he's not a man that will make a mistake, I don't believe, from this.
21:06He has absolutely ridden this like a pro.
21:09Like a man that's been here many times before.
21:11It's going to be Storm Stacey as a rookie at Juniper that takes the win for the first time out
21:17to the grass.
21:17Storm Stacey wins his first race here as a rookie at the Northwest 200 in the Superstock class.
21:24Absolutely outstanding for the orange-jacketed novice.
21:29With a lap record to boot.
21:31Looking at the crowd there.
21:33And that's Mervyn White that comes across to congratulate Stacey the winner from Dunlop in second place.
21:39Josh Brooks goes onto the podium.
21:40Hutchie, McGuinness, Brown, Herbertson, Hickman and Simpson and Rees round out the top ten.
21:48Storm Stacey, a debut winner at the Northwest 200.
21:53Incredible.
21:54Yeah.
21:55Unbelievable.
21:57The goal there was to just come and have a good successful Northwest 200.
22:01Go home happy and continue on with BSB.
22:04But you get a bit carried away when you're racing unfortunately.
22:07And I really enjoyed that race.
22:08Battling with Michael is so, it's a new thing for me.
22:11I've never battled with Michael.
22:12Obviously we've done test days before on track but the difference on track compared to roads is so different.
22:18How much did you enjoy that experience racing against one of the famous Dunlop road racing family?
22:24Yeah, the heritage and everything.
22:26I actually went to Joey's bar last night and it's so cool seeing everything.
22:30All the bikes in there and the fans, everything.
22:33I've done exactly what I aim to do here.
22:36Obviously coming and winning over the Irish fans.
22:38I mean they're so passionate for bike racing and I hope they can really get to like me because maybe
22:42I'll be back a bit more.
22:47Michael, I know you come here to win a little bit disappointed.
22:50Yeah, no, it was hard, the race was quite hard.
22:52I got sort of stuck in there, just lack of bike time I would assume, sort of caught me out
22:57a bit.
22:58And these boys are so hard on the brakes, even Josh as well and so on.
23:02They're both really, really deep breakers and I just, obviously, he ran a better race.
23:06He was strong, he was very strong on the brakes and made it work for himself.
23:16Josh, another podium, that was quite a battle.
23:18Oh, it certainly was.
23:19I just feel like I didn't take enough risk.
23:22I wasn't willing to go that little bit further that I needed to.
23:25You know, I'm happy to be back up the front fighting for the podium positions
23:29and even being in consideration for a win is a great result.
23:46Well, we always love to see new faces like Storm Stacey at the Northwest 200.
23:51And he's not the only debutante here this week.
23:54Because TV presenter and actor Charlie Berman is here for the first time.
23:59And he went on a lap with Glenn Irwin.
24:09Well, we always love welcoming special guests to the Northwest 200 and celebrities.
24:13And look who I found.
24:14Charlie Berman, who has just had the privilege of doing a lap of the Northwest 200 circuit
24:19with the Superbike record holder, Glenn Irwin.
24:22Great to see you, first of all.
24:24How was that?
24:25It was great fun.
24:27I mean, I have to say I was quite relieved that we had to follow the safety car
24:29because at one stage I was just thinking, do you know what?
24:32I'm going to go around.
24:33I've never been on this track before.
24:34I can see how terrifying it is when it's kind of wet and dry and it can be super slippy.
24:40But it was wonderful to follow you.
24:42It really was.
24:42Yeah, it's nice.
24:43Like you say, I was probably quite glad the safety car was there as well because it kept us both
24:47in rain.
24:48You did try to pass me.
24:49You did pass me at one point.
24:50Well, I had to take that opportunity.
24:51Yeah, you can now say once that you've done it at the Northwest 200.
24:55You can drink more than me and you pass me on a motorbike.
24:58But yeah, it was good.
25:00We still got the experience of racing lines.
25:02There's still plenty of fans out there.
25:04You know, weather's been poor today.
25:05But, you know, I was able to talk through how accessible this sport is.
25:10The fans are right beside you.
25:11They're waving.
25:12You know, they're making an effort to still stand there and watch a parade lap.
25:15Let's be honest.
25:15It's not that exciting compared to what they have seen today.
25:17So, testament to the fans, which are a huge part of this event.
25:20And nice to welcome someone like Charlie to this event, to experience what we have to offer in Northern Ireland,
25:25Glen.
25:26Yeah, look, Charlie's a brilliant guy with a huge passion for motorcycles.
25:33And, you know, a few things that align with me, Ducati in particular, to have the opportunity to share the
25:39feelings and the love and the entire energy of this event with somebody who is so highly regarded in the
25:45industry has been a pleasure for me.
25:46And I look forward to enjoying the rest of the week with you as well.
25:49And, Charlie, do you feel you've now ticked one off the bucket list coming to the Northwest 200 and being
25:54able to do a lap as well?
25:56I mean, absolutely.
25:57I think there were loads of...
25:59I mean, every fan out here would love to have been in my position to be able to follow Glen
26:03along on a beautiful bike and on an amazing track.
26:07Good luck as well over the weekend.
26:08Charlie, thank you.
26:09Thank you very much, Dave.
26:16Well, now to someone who's part of our team for the first time, Alana Meyer, local racer.
26:21Great to have you as part of the coverage.
26:23Next up is the Super Twin and Sport Bike race.
26:26The first one was good.
26:28Expecting more of the same in this one?
26:29Yeah, I mean, we almost had a win from 62-year-old Jeremy McWilliams there.
26:34So, and we've just seen Storm Stacey on his new-comer year at 23 years old.
26:40You know, we could have an old hat winning this race.
26:44Yeah, he's going to have to beat Peter Hickman, of course, who won the first Super Twin race.
26:48And yet again, he is in pole position.
26:51The second Super Twin sport bike race of the day.
26:54He is ready on the grid.
26:57And it is on pole still.
26:58Peter Hickman, Paul Jordan, Jeremy McWilliams rounding out the front row.
27:01Alistair Seeley, Michael Sweeney and Jamie Coward on row two.
27:05Christian Elkin, Mauro Puccini and Franco Bourne, row three.
27:08Joey Thompson, Dominic Herbertson, Alan Ventner.
27:11AJ rounds out the row four.
27:13Andrea Majola, Rob Hodson, Neil Conahan.
27:16Watch out for Jeremy McWilliams on the 99.
27:19He found himself in a little bit of trouble last time out.
27:21Hickman pinched it from him, but McWilliams won't be fooled twice.
27:24You can be sure of that.
27:25But Hickman gets a bullet start on the number 60 swan bike.
27:28He's absolutely down the order.
27:30And then it's Alistair Seeley looking for an inside line as well as we get down towards the hairpin,
27:35the Amici hairpin, bottom gear.
27:37As they slam them back down over Primrose and down towards that hairpin.
27:41Hickman has the advantage at the moment.
27:42Seeley is through to second place.
27:44McWilliams is bouncing, but gets into third place.
27:47Paul Jordan is there.
27:48Will he have a bit more luck this time around?
27:50Oh, yes.
27:51Now McWilliams, I know he's...
27:52Oh, my goodness me.
27:53That was seriously bad luck there for Neil Conahan.
27:56Pushed out onto the kerb.
27:58Green flag.
27:59We're all live at the Mill Road roundabout.
28:01Hickie in front of Seeley.
28:04Looking back, it's getting a bit of a squeeze up there, that's for sure.
28:06But the opening lap is always like that.
28:08I know that one or two of these riders have made some adjustments.
28:11Of course, this is the second Super Twin race here today.
28:15McWilliams were just fiddling around with things.
28:17They think they've improved it.
28:18Yep.
28:18But the wind is in the same direction.
28:20So, consistent conditions.
28:22So, they have something to play with.
28:23Oh, he has improved it.
28:23It does drive by though.
28:25That is the fastest bike on the course.
28:26He admits to that.
28:28He's past Interstation Corner.
28:30Flat out now.
28:31So, McWilliams' machine.
28:32That flittick tune.
28:34Steve Linsdale, I mean, he's been in his class for some time.
28:36He knows how to make a fast motorbike.
28:38It looks beautiful.
28:39And with McWilliams on it, he's really looking for a win.
28:43Yeah, there's nothing of McWilliams.
28:44He's a little fella and he knows how to ride one of these bikes.
28:46It's really, he has always been a small bike rider.
28:49But can drive MotoGP, which he's done as well.
28:51But McWilliams is looking back on Peter Hickman.
28:54There's Paul Jordan trying to get past the Swan Yamaha.
28:56Paul Jordan is a man desperate for a result here.
29:00He's had a bit of bad luck during the course of this year's Northwest 200.
29:03McWilliams on 99, 60 is Hickman, 22 is Paul Jordan.
29:06Then you've got Alistair Sealy as they pour in to the University and onto the Link Road.
29:12Up and over the hill now.
29:14To the Valley Sally roundabout.
29:16Jamie Coward looking good there on the Milenko by Paget's machine on that Patton.
29:21Yeah, Patton's a fast motorbike in this class as well.
29:23If you look down the order of all the different types of motorbikes, Yamaha, Aprilia and of course the Patton
29:28as well.
29:28They're in the fix.
29:30There's also the sportbike Triumph in there as well somewhere.
29:34Yeah, Paul Jordan just got the toe there.
29:36We look back from him and here it is coming past.
29:39Peter Hickman having another go at it.
29:40You saw the windsock there straight out.
29:42I reckon it's 25 knot wind here today.
29:44Again, yeah, it's got windier as the night's gone.
29:46Oh, he got his nose wiped there, didn't he?
29:48So Jordan absolutely cut off the number 60, Peter Hickman.
29:52Hickman's lost a bit of momentum in the middle of that chicane.
29:55And on these little bikes, it's not good.
29:57So this is the Macro Boy chicane.
29:59The Macro Boy Hotel as was on the right hand side as they come.
30:02Oh, Jordan.
30:03Hey, how about a bit of motocross while we're at it?
30:06Well, he has had a very, very eventful week.
30:08That's for sure.
30:09Paul Jordan again in the thick of our controversy.
30:13There he is.
30:14Extraordinary.
30:15He's just lost a bit of ground there and I think change of underwear.
30:17Straight back at it.
30:19Here we go.
30:20And you just see him getting it way too hot.
30:21Has to straighten it up.
30:23Flies through the air.
30:23Gets grip on that dry grass, fortunately.
30:25Didn't lose a massive amount of time.
30:28Well, you mentioned the grass.
30:29You're absolutely right.
30:29Good job it is dry because wet grass is not the grippiest thing you've ever come across.
30:34That is the Paul Jordan thing.
30:37And gets straight back on the gas.
30:38Yeah, not a line I would recommend.
30:40So, he'd be pleased to keep his...
30:42Well, he lost about two places, that's all.
30:44Yeah, but he's still in the hunt.
30:45We saw what he did earlier on in the day.
30:47He's a man that comes back.
30:48We're looking back though at...
30:50Yes, it is that big frame of Peter Hickman as he gets underneath.
30:55Wow, Jamie Coward's machine seems to be a bit lacking in performance.
30:58It does a time, but Jordan already back up.
31:01Looking back at the 36 of Jamie Coward on the pattern.
31:06Maybe that Milenko by Paget's bike is not quite as fast as it's been in the past, which is unusual.
31:11Because normally that's a very competitive motorcycle.
31:13I think things just keep improving, particularly with the Yamahas.
31:16They're tuning them a little bit better each year.
31:17The Aprilia seems to have got a bit better.
31:21These things absolutely rattle your teeth.
31:24In the commentary position, all we can hear are these when they're going past.
31:27It absolutely vibrates through your seat.
31:30Peter Hickman chasing Jeremy McWilliams.
31:33McWilliams is flying.
31:35He's absolutely...
31:36I mean, he's accurate, McWilliams.
31:38There's no doubt about it.
31:38Hickman in second place.
31:39Seeley third.
31:40Paul Jordan in fourth place as they cross the line.
31:42Cowered in fifth place.
31:43And then the 54 machine that's in there as well.
31:46That is Franco Bourne on the pattern.
31:49Another pattern.
31:49And the newcomer as well.
31:51But McWilliams said that he didn't see the last lap flag in the first race.
31:54So he didn't block that situation when Peter Hickman got down the inside of him.
31:58But he'd be well aware this time.
31:59And counting.
32:00I was going to say, he's only got a count up to the requisite number of laps.
32:04And he didn't quite manage it last time.
32:06They put beads on his dashboard this time.
32:08So through goes.
32:09That's Paul Jordan 22.
32:10Looking back down the order.
32:12There is the 36 of Jamie Coward.
32:14Yeah.
32:15And the 54.
32:16Franco Bourne doing a good job.
32:18Pattern.
32:19Powered.
32:20Christian Elkin we're on with now.
32:21He was a newcomer winner, I think, years and years ago as well.
32:24If I remember correctly, we talked about Bruce Anstey being a newcomer winner on a big bike.
32:29But small bike man Christian Elkin used to be a real weapon around this place.
32:34Back looking from Seeley at Jordan.
32:37And that is a slipstream.
32:39Looking back now at Seeley from Jordan.
32:41Yeah.
32:42Well, he got up in the slipstream and then pulled out and it didn't quite work.
32:45As we get down to the braking area.
32:47Through goes Hickman on 60.
32:4922.
32:49Jordan.
32:5034.
32:52Seeley.
32:53Still looking for that elusive 30th race win around here.
32:56Yeah.
32:57Can't believe he's done 29.
32:59He's a bit greedy going for 30.
33:01I'm sure he'll keep coming.
33:03He's got a long way to go.
33:04If he's going to get as old as the fella that's out in front Jeremy McWilliams,
33:07he's got a number of years left in him.
33:10Positively prehistoric, but he's still a race winner and still an incredible competitor.
33:15Jeremy McWilliams we're talking about.
33:17He's as lean as you can imagine.
33:21As fit as they come.
33:23Apparently trains with Alistair Seeley.
33:26They go training and playing golf together.
33:28Alistair Seeley the postman.
33:31Maybe he delivers a few letters with him.
33:33Now then, Hickman from Jordan.
33:36These two really have got a struggle on if they're catching McWilliams.
33:39McWilliams is on the faster bike and he's using it brilliantly out front as well.
33:43Yeah, as long as they can use each other's slipstream and not get tangled up,
33:46then they should be able to make up some time.
33:48That's the view forward and now it's full of Paul Jordan.
33:52And looking back now at Hickman who's just been passed as we get down into the braking area at Metropole.
33:58Already, Jeremy McWilliams is already up the road.
34:01Yeah, remember Hickman did win the first race.
34:04He won the first one, but McWilliams was second.
34:06Is he going to move around or is number 22 Paul Jordan going to get in the mix?
34:10But this is looking like the podium.
34:11Underneath the bridge then, onto the Coast Road we go again.
34:14This is the battle for second place, I remind you, because Jeremy McWilliams is already well away into the Bette
34:21McLean chicane.
34:23That's actually onto the Coast Road, over the hill, Black Hill, and then down to the braking area of the
34:29Bette McLean chicane,
34:30which is probably that last gaff chicane.
34:33If you're at the end of a race, you want to be practicing your braking maneuver here.
34:37Wait for it. Is he going to go to the inside?
34:38No, Jordan hasn't left. Oh, he has left him some road.
34:41Yeah, he squeezed himself down there, Peter Hickman I'm talking about.
34:44He knows what he's doing, Hickey, that's for sure.
34:46But out front, it is Jeremy McWilliams. He's already away at the front of this.
34:50I think Hickman's closing on him, actually.
34:52Yeah, he might be, but maybe Jeremy is just keeping it nice and calm and cool.
34:57Keep an eye on it then. Can Hickman close him down?
35:00He was the pole sitter. We are into the start and finish area.
35:03Jeremy McWilliams goes through. Will Hickman close him down?
35:06So McWilliams then comes through the start and finish area.
35:09Hickman is getting closer, definitely, by the timing.
35:11Oh, Jeremy McWilliams has just gone up the kerb.
35:16Keeping it calm. He's ridden the top of the kerb.
35:18I have never seen anybody get that far up the kerb and stay on.
35:21Me either. Talk about keeping it calm, you were just saying.
35:24He was on the berm properly and over the top of it.
35:26How he managed to keep that machine.
35:28Had the throttle full open whilst he was on top of the kerb.
35:31Well, it was remarkable balance. Hickman's out.
35:33Oh, he's gone wide. Something's happened.
35:36That doesn't sound right.
35:37That doesn't sound right at all.
35:39Peter Hickman is out.
35:40So the pole man has gone. He's on the path.
35:42That's the end of his race.
35:44Now it is down.
35:45Jeremy McWilliams is away at the front of this race now.
35:49It's a very kind Marshalls post that he's found himself.
35:51And another look back at this.
35:53If that was millimetre perfect,
35:54if he'd have been wrong with either wheel by another millimetre,
35:58he would have been in the fence.
35:59The crowd are waving.
36:01Jordan's gone.
36:01The crowd are waving.
36:03McWilliams, he is quite observant.
36:06He does look around to see where other riders are.
36:08So he's aware of how much of a lead he has, it would appear to me.
36:12Yeah, he's got a huge gap.
36:13I don't know if Paul Jordan's made a mistake somewhere
36:15because he was much, much closer than that,
36:17but he is starting to wave now.
36:18And the crowd are going berserk for the fella.
36:20It's another Ulster win, of course.
36:22Jeremy McWilliams, local man.
36:25Very popular.
36:27Superbly talented, but of course as well, superbly experienced.
36:30Test rider for KTM.
36:32MotoGP.
36:33You name it, this man has ridden it.
36:35Baggers.
36:36Very fast at Daytona as well.
36:38He's making extravagant signs all around the track,
36:42but it is Jeremy McWilliams that will take the checkered flag
36:46for the second super twin race.
36:48Absolutely dominant from the Ulsterman.
36:51Superb ride from him.
36:53Second place comes through eventually.
36:56And that is Alistair Seeley comes through in third place as well.
37:00But Hickman is out.
37:01McWilliams, Paul Jordan gets a bit of a result this weekend.
37:04In the end, Seeley, Coward, Bourne, Elkin, Bentner,
37:08Thompson, McHawler and Dom Herbertson in 10th place.
37:15Jeremy McWilliams, another Northwest 200 win.
37:19What about that?
37:19It's been coming a while, hasn't it?
37:21Been waiting for that one for a wee while.
37:22Well, I'm glad that Steve Lindstedt and the team brought
37:25that little bit bike over because it's awesome.
37:29Yeah, we just made it a little bit better for this afternoon's run
37:32and it worked perfectly.
37:34Paul, back on the podium, and my goodness,
37:36you were pushing hard for a race win there.
37:38Yeah, you know, after the first race we had,
37:40I knew I had a bit of pace and I didn't make things easier
37:43for myself again.
37:43I went through the mackerel bus chicane
37:46and I clipped the kerb on the way in.
37:47And then in the last lap I seen that Pete had pulled off the York corner,
37:51so I was like, right, I've got a bit of a gap here.
37:52But unfortunately, I think I got caught with another gust of wind
37:54and it just pushed me on in and that was it.
37:57Then Jeremy was gone and I knew I had a bit of a gap from Alistair,
37:59so I said, just bring it home with the boys.
38:01Yet another podium for the record holders.
38:0545 times you'll have stood up there.
38:07It's good numbers.
38:09You know, we're racking them up.
38:10Obviously, we came here to get the 30th.
38:12It didn't happen, so it looks like we'll have to come back next year.
38:15But, you know, you've probably seen in the race we were lacking a bit of speed earlier on as well.
38:19Tried a gearing change to see if it would help.
38:21We kind of tossed a coin and said, let's try something.
38:24So we made it, but it was probably the wrong direction.
38:27And yeah, we have to come back next year now.
38:41So Jeremy McWilliams, who was already the oldest rider to win a race here at the Northwest 200,
38:46extends his own record.
38:49It's time now for the final race of this year's event.
38:53The Northwest 200 Superbike Race.
38:56Lee Johnson explains the class.
39:09Superbike class, we have come down to Nitrous Competitions to look at Glen Irwin's very beautiful Ducati Superbike.
39:16This bike is in the region of £170,000.
39:21Why is that, you might ask?
39:23Well, this is the price you have to pay if you want to win races in the Superbike class.
39:27These bikes are capable of speeds over 210 miles per hour.
39:31We're going to look at some of the details on this bike and the reasons why it's at that value.
39:37Some of the things you can change, starting at the front of the motorbike,
39:40we've got some very nice Ohlins forks.
39:43Upwards of £10,000.
39:44Some really nice Brembo calipers.
39:47Upwards of £6,000.
39:49The rear swing arm.
39:50I don't actually know the cost of that, being a factory part.
39:54The rear subframe.
39:55Tank.
39:56The rear shock.
39:57The wheels are different.
39:59The body work is different.
40:01And the biggest difference from the factory bike that you see in World of Superbikes,
40:04this bike is running MoTeC Electronics.
40:07So they have to change the dash, the ECU, the loom.
40:10All of this weighs up to £20,000.
40:13And on top of all that, you've got a rather beautiful exhaust system.
40:18Also upwards of £10,000.
40:20So guys, this is the price you have to pay to try and win races in the Superbike race at
40:25the Northwest 200.
40:30Well, joining me is a man who has won this race many times.
40:34Eleven times Northwest 200 winner, Philip McAllen.
40:37Philip, how special is it for a rider to finish the day with the big one?
40:41Ah, Stephen, this is the race you want to win.
40:43This is the race everyone remembers.
40:45It's a blue ribbon race.
40:46It's the final race of the day.
40:47It's also the best prize money of the day.
40:50So if there's one race you want to win, it's this one.
40:52Everyone goes home tonight and they remember who won the last race at the Northwest 200.
40:57Dean Harrison is in pole position.
41:00But is Glen Irwin the big favourite here again?
41:03Well, I think there's been a lot learned throughout the day and definitely from the last race.
41:07You know, Glen Irwin, he's losing that little bit to those boys on the brakes into the canes and turning
41:12in the chicane.
41:13Dean Harrison says his bike wasn't right in the last race.
41:15He's made all the mods.
41:17He's hungry.
41:18He's had a few second places.
41:19He wants to win.
41:20And let's not forget you've got Michael Dunlop there as well.
41:22So I think this is going to be a brilliant last race today at the Northwest 200.
41:27It's the final race of the day.
41:29It's the big one.
41:30The feature race here at the Northwest 200.
41:32The one everyone wants to win.
41:34On pole, Dean Harrison, Glen Irwin, Richard Cooper round out the front row.
41:38Josh Brooks, Michael Dunlop, Storm Stacey, Ian Hutchinson, Peter Hickman and Erno Castaimo on row three.
41:44Fourth row, John McGuinness, Mike Brown, Paul Jordan, Michael Sweeney, Dave O'Johnson, Dominic Herbertson, Lauren Hoffman, Marcus Simpson and
41:51Phil Crow finalising that row.
41:53Six laps then for the Marrow Hotel and Superbike race.
41:57Who's it going to make the whole shot?
41:58And again, Glen Irwin looks really good on the number two, weaving from side to side.
42:02He just about keeps that front wheel on the ground, but does get out in front of them as we
42:06head out for the last time, the last race of the day then.
42:10This really is the one that everybody wants to win.
42:13The sun's dropping, as you can see, by the long shadows there.
42:16And it is none other than Stacey down the inside.
42:19Can you believe him?
42:20He's going to run wide.
42:21He did run wide.
42:22And there's a few under him there.
42:24Oh, pushing and shoving.
42:25Look at Glen Irwin.
42:26He's been shuffled back to somewhere like sixth or seventh place.
42:29Talk about cause confusion and get away.
42:31He did a good job there.
42:32Now Storm Stacey is elected to stay on the BMW for the Superbike race.
42:35He ran the Ducati in the first race, but this time he's gone out on the BMW.
42:39Yeah, but it's Glen Irwin who may have started this race as a favourite.
42:42Having done the business earlier on the Saturday, but Glen Irwin has been shuffled right back.
42:48But sixth lap, plenty of time to make it up.
42:50And that bike we know is quick, but leading at the moment.
42:53Storm Stacey, already a newcomer rookie winner here.
42:58Surely he can't make it too.
42:59Well, who knows with that young fella, but the BMW probably won't have quite the speed,
43:03but it will be more stable.
43:05The run down to university.
43:06One thing that has been consistent is it has been a tailwind all the way down to university,
43:12all day and a headwind all the way down to Metropole.
43:15Yeah. And look at this.
43:16That's touchy, isn't it?
43:18Coming through.
43:19Number 12.
43:19Ian Hutchinson chasing the number three of Dean Harrison.
43:22They are in a tight group there, but it is Storm Stacey on the 79 out front at the moment.
43:28Looking back up the street.
43:29Look at how many there are.
43:30Where is Glen Irwin?
43:31Wait for it.
43:31He's usually up the inside if he's on the brake.
43:34Oh, he's actually outbraked himself.
43:36Yeah.
43:37Glen Irwin almost did exactly the same.
43:39Got himself in a right hole muddle, tight up against the curb.
43:42Let's take another look at this.
43:44So through has come John McGuinness on the number one machine.
43:46That's Peter Hickman to the left of our camera, to the right of John McGuinness.
43:50And then underneath them is Michael Dunlop.
43:54Oh, there he is.
43:55Harrison.
43:56Up the inside into the braking area.
43:58And again, I repeat, still looking for his first ever win here, Dean Harrison.
44:04I'll tell you what, though.
44:05Realistically, Glen Irwin's done a good job considering where he got mired down at that first corner.
44:09Fast motorbike, though.
44:10And look, just look at the way it weaves from side to side.
44:12It doesn't look stable, the Ducati, does it?
44:14You can see it shaking away there in third place.
44:17He's got a doctor's dangle as he puts the right foot out into the air to come into the braking
44:23area here at Metropole.
44:24We're looking at the rear of Dean Harrison.
44:27Glen Irwin said that he actually had arm pump in the first race.
44:29It really is a machine to hang on to.
44:31And he said he was absolutely worn out by the end of that race.
44:35Dean Harrison just nipping his knee in so he doesn't bang it on the curb there.
44:38That's pretty normal for these guys, even though it made me jump at the time.
44:41So out of church, under the bridge, onto the front road, we go again onto the coast road here.
44:47Beautiful part of the world, some very expensive-looking houses along here now.
44:51Quite a lot of people from Belfast have second homes here.
44:54It's a very expensive area, and you can see why if you look out to the coast.
44:58Not that anybody is.
44:59We're all watching the back end of Dean Harrison.
45:01As through goes Stacey again into that braking area at the Bet-McLean chicane.
45:06Superb stuff.
45:07What a place.
45:08Oh, and down into the dirt as well.
45:10Stuck his knee.
45:11He's got long legs anyway.
45:12Yeah.
45:12But he's stuck him straight in the dirt of the chicane now.
45:14I'm talking about Storm Stacey.
45:15He really is creating a storm here.
45:18Yeah, he is.
45:18But sitting outside, having your cup of tea, looking at this out of your window on your expensive
45:22house here on the north coast will be quite a pleasurable thing to be doing.
45:26Under-selling it, Steve, I feel.
45:29Storm Stacey through the start and finish chicane we go.
45:33Leads this race from Dean Harrison, from Glenn Irwin, from Josh Brooks, from Peter Hickman that's there.
45:39Huchy is on number 12.
45:41And Dunlop.
45:41Then it's number six of Dunlop.
45:43Dunlop must have some sort of problem.
45:45Surely he's dropping back.
45:46Yeah, five people in front of him.
45:47Storm Stacey.
45:47Yeah.
45:48Well, there is that, but he doesn't look really on the pace.
45:50Oh, he nearly turned it over the back.
45:51He is a showman, even though he's in a race.
45:55Storm Stacey, his value, his stock value has gone up hugely during the course of his time
46:02here in Northern Ireland.
46:03He's definitely worked out a fast line out of that beachy corner there because he just
46:08pulls it, keeps it left, left, left, and then straight lines it up to this part here.
46:12Mill Road roundabout then.
46:14Bottom gear again.
46:15Very tricky.
46:15It's the exit that counts, of course, because that, you carry that momentum all the way down
46:20to University.
46:22Of course, you've got Station Corner in the middle of that, which is a, most of these
46:25guys are nearly flat out through there on a Superbike.
46:29Oh, again.
46:29Look at Glen Irwin waggling from side to side on the number two machine.
46:33No wonder he's getting arm pump.
46:35I mean, he really is having to grapple with that machine and the wind on it and everything
46:38else, and I think the wind's actually got stronger.
46:40You'd be winding up the damper, wouldn't you, in the old days.
46:42Here comes Dean Harrison.
46:43Dean Harrison then getting a big slipstream on Storm Stacey and gets underneath him now,
46:47right out to the white line again.
46:48That Superbike engine, Superstock bike is quick.
46:51It's a hybrid.
46:52He's looking forward, of course, to the TT coming up.
46:55This is a great forerunner to the TT here at the Northwest.
46:58All these guys like to line themselves up.
47:00Storm Stacey will not be going to the TT.
47:02He promised his dad he never would, and so he won't be.
47:05But the Northwest wasn't included in that.
47:07As through goes.
47:09Glen Irwin to second place.
47:10Dean Harrison led down the road to University.
47:13He's now third.
47:15So Glen Irwin, of course, on 12 wins here in the Superbike class.
47:19He's not been beaten last year.
47:20He didn't come here.
47:21But every time he's come and done it, he's been winning the Superbike class.
47:24Will he want 13?
47:25And is he going to get it for that matter?
47:27Well, he and Peter Hickman have sworn not to come back here for one reason or another.
47:31And they're both in this race, in it to win it.
47:34But Storm Stacey is the man that's out front at the moment.
47:36Dean Harrison chasing after him and Glen Irwin.
47:40Yeah.
47:41Down towards the Mathers Cross chicane we go now.
47:45It's Dean Harrison on board looking at the rear of Glen Irwin.
47:50Who's looking at the rear of your race leader, 79 Storm Stacey.
47:56And the rest really are.
47:57Josh Brooks hanging on there.
47:58Michael Dunlop hanging on there as well.
48:00Oh, here we go.
48:02Slipstream City.
48:03And that's Glen.
48:04There it is.
48:04Oh, that's tight.
48:06It is tight.
48:06He just got across in front of him.
48:08And you just see how he's fighting it all the way along.
48:10Every time it hits another bump, it ties itself in a knot.
48:12Macro Boy chicane next up.
48:15Glen Irwin down through the gearbox on the Nitrous competition's racing machine.
48:20Picked him up.
48:21He had a disastrous BSB round at Alton Park.
48:24The opening round there.
48:26Two races were a disaster.
48:27Just about managed to salvage Summit in the final and third race there.
48:31Yeah, they did.
48:32And then brought a motorbike here that works.
48:34Yeah, they did.
48:35I think the final race at Alton Park, it was third fastest lap time.
48:38Got it all sorted out.
48:39He's keeping the inside line, trying to block anyone passing him.
48:41But it's still an Irwin that is looking to make this work for him.
48:47The final race, of course.
48:48It is the main race of the day.
48:50We wait a long time for it.
48:52Sun is still out.
48:53Still very, very cold temperature-wise.
48:56Still very, very windy as they come up onto this coast road now.
48:59Sun in their eyes.
49:00Coming off the sea.
49:01This time of day, you're right.
49:03Sun is a hazard that they've got to get over.
49:06And up the inside comes Storm Stacey again.
49:07You don't do that.
49:08He just finds lines that these guys aren't used to seeing.
49:11Let alone feeling.
49:13Yeah.
49:13He's so confident on the front of that machine.
49:15He just tucked it down the inside there.
49:16It's not a normal passing place.
49:18But this is down towards the Bet McLean chicane.
49:21And Irwin had a look.
49:22But he's so low on the brakes.
49:23Irwin was too close to the inside.
49:25And you're right.
49:26Look at him waggling away, trying to get it stopped.
49:28But he does get it stopped.
49:29And he makes the apex both ways.
49:31So Stacey still leads on 79.
49:32Two is Glenn Irwin.
49:34Three is Dean Harrison.
49:35Those three.
49:36And look at the acceleration out of there as well.
49:38He gets grip.
49:39He finds grip.
49:40That bike's working for him.
49:41Stacey has got the right tool underneath him.
49:43Yeah.
49:44We saw a tear off come off there.
49:45How on earth do you have time to take your hands off your handlebars around here like this?
49:48I've no idea.
49:48Well the trouble is when you take a tear off when you're going at these kind of speeds.
49:50It gets sucked behind the screen.
49:52That vacuum that's behind the screen.
49:54Sometimes you can't get rid of it from underneath the screen and the motorbike.
49:57Stacey, Glenn Irwin, Dean Harrison as they go through.
50:00Then it is Hickman that's still there on 60.
50:01And then 25 of Josh Brooks.
50:03These guys aren't out of it yet.
50:04No, not at all.
50:05It's any one of these realistically.
50:07Because by the time we get to university it could all have changed around.
50:09Nothing like a bit of slipstream.
50:10Up and over Primrose Hill again.
50:12And that's where we...
50:13I mentioned it earlier that Storm Stacey did a...
50:16Oh, hang on a minute.
50:17Just about manages to make the apex.
50:20He is playing short circuit games on a road.
50:24Pretty impressive.
50:25Yeah.
50:26Talking about Stacey.
50:27And I was talking about him jumping over Primrose Hill in the wet earlier on in the week.
50:31Gave us all a bit of a scare.
50:33Peter Hickman looking good.
50:35Still in the mix.
50:36Oh!
50:36And Josh Brooks a little bit tight.
50:39Josh Brooks on the back of this train of very fast motorcycles.
50:44This is where Stacey...
50:45Don't like to say that section there through that Mill Road roundabout.
50:48How quick is he through there?
50:50Look at Irwin though.
50:51Waggling away as well.
50:52Keep an eye on him.
50:53The number two machine through station corner.
50:57170 mile an hour through that corner.
50:59It is a frighteningly fast right-hand turn.
51:03Now it's all flat out.
51:03I think we're going to see a bike in a minute in the picture.
51:06Oh!
51:06It's nearly like he's trying to pull a wheel.
51:08He'll have had to roll out of that for sure.
51:10He will.
51:10He'll roll out of it.
51:10And look at that.
51:11That's the reason why everyone was able to pass him so quickly.
51:14There's no way.
51:15Because when the wind is on the wings, it's pushing you into the track.
51:19When you wheelie, suddenly it's an aeroplane.
51:21It gets underneath the wing and it wheelies.
51:23So you've got to get out of it.
51:24Yeah.
51:25He's lost some time there.
51:27We saw him just roll that throttle a little bit.
51:29Plus the electronics will have kicked in as well.
51:31Won't bother him.
51:32Storm Stacey on the link road then.
51:34Still enough time to get back to the front.
51:36And you've got to say, with the way that he's treating this track,
51:38you wouldn't expect him not to.
51:39No.
51:41Valley Sally Roundabout.
51:42Looking at the style of Glenn Irwin.
51:44Glenn Irwin.
51:46Certainly the most successful recent super bike man here at the Northwest 200.
51:52Yeah.
51:52And he's hoping to make it 13 as he powers his way up towards the chicane right now.
51:57Now then, watch for the slipstream here coming from Dean Harrison.
52:00Dean Harrison.
52:00And here comes Storm Stacey again.
52:02Got a two bike slipstream and we know he's good on the brakes just here.
52:05Does he make it?
52:06Yes, he does.
52:07Through two men to lead.
52:09Very experienced.
52:11Very fast.
52:12And actually, very quick on short circuits as well.
52:15I keep mentioning this is a road and we're talking about short circuit racing.
52:18But the two guys he just passed.
52:20Yeah.
52:20A good short circuit riders.
52:22There's no question about it.
52:27And Dean Harris is no slouch.
52:28Harrison is no slouch either.
52:30As again, picking up that extra bit of draft.
52:33When we talk about drafting, it's a big hole in the air that these guys are coming through.
52:37Dean.
52:38And it pulls you past.
52:40It sucks you past them.
52:41Get it perfectly right.
52:42It's all about timing.
52:44Yeah.
52:44Harrison got that one right.
52:45Absolutely.
52:46Down the hill we go.
52:47And it is quite a drop down into Portrush.
52:50Bumpy drop.
52:51But nevertheless, he's going.
52:51Look at the crowd going absolutely berserk.
52:53Everyone standing on the side of the road.
52:55Of course, when you come down into the furniture, it makes it seem faster than even the 200 mile an
52:59hour.
52:59You're nearly pulling down here into Metropole.
53:01Dean Harrison leads from Storm Stacey.
53:04Peter Hickman is there as well on the number 60 bike.
53:07Watch out for Peter Hickman.
53:08He knows his way around here as well.
53:10He might still be slightly injured, but he'll be looking to try and win this race if he can.
53:14Is this going to be Dean Harrison's first win here at the Northwest?
53:17It's the main event.
53:18It's the one he'd like to win.
53:20We've asked that question so many times this week.
53:22He certainly deserves a win.
53:24There's no doubt in my mind about that.
53:25He's been thwarted by red flags quite a bit this week.
53:28And that's affected it as far as performance is concerned.
53:32Meanwhile, up through Church under the railway bridge onto the coast road we go up and over Black Hill.
53:39Here we go again.
53:40The 79 and Storm Stacey.
53:42Gotta say, Dean Harrison here into the Bet McLean chicane is very, very quick into here.
53:48But he leaves it fractionally to...
53:50Oh!
53:50Red flag!
53:51That's a problem.
53:52Now that's a disaster again for Dean Harrison.
53:54He just put himself in a position with Stacey to try and take this win his first and he has
54:01been thwarted yet again.
54:04So, it'll go back a lap and we will work out with the organisers whether it's going to be rerun.
54:12And it wasn't.
54:13Storm Stacey, Dean Harris and Glenn Irwin were declared the top three.
54:16Hickman, Brooks, Hutchinson, McGuinness, Brown, Phillips and Evans round out the top ten.
54:22You'd have loved another three laps, wouldn't you?
54:24Do you know what, Steven?
54:25I'll be truthfully honest.
54:27The wind was bad out there.
54:30I guess it's a little bit bike specific.
54:32You know, we struggle so bad with stability in the wind.
54:35Speaking to Brooksie and that, I can't go in a straight line at all.
54:39Hats off to Storm.
54:40He's came and done an exceptional job.
54:43A job that I very much said he would do.
54:45I said he would arrive.
54:46And he arrived as I expected.
54:49And Dean, I don't know what to say because he's coming into shot now.
54:55I'm a bit disappointed.
54:56Not disappointed.
54:56I've had a good day all in all.
54:57But I was leading the super stock race.
55:00That got red flagged.
55:01Then the restart the clutch went, which was unfortunate.
55:03And then I was leading that race then and it got red flagged.
55:06The super sport race, I just broke that record.
55:08And I was sat on Michael's tail and then it got red flagged.
55:11So, I'm just like, just one of them things.
55:14But no, in myself, I feel like I'm riding good.
55:18Storm Stacey.
55:20Double winner at the North West 200.
55:23Dreams do come true.
55:24Well, Glenn did all the talking for me.
55:27I didn't have to say anything.
55:30Whether it was mind games or what, I don't know.
55:32But Glenn said some lovely words about me on the launch event
55:34and said I would come and do exactly what I've done.
55:37I didn't know how that race was going to play out.
55:39I was a bit gutted when they said we were going to go again, obviously.
55:42Now, we've declared the race now.
55:44And yeah, mega event, mega, good race, everything.
55:48Really enjoyed it.
55:49The one question everybody wants to know is, will you be back?
55:52Well, I don't know, maybe will I?
55:54We'll talk about that later.
55:57We're taking that as a yes.
55:58We'll see.
56:07So, another win for Storm Stacey and Philip McAllen and Alana Meyer.
56:11That brings us to the end of what's been a great day's racing.
56:14Yeah, we've had a superb week.
56:16We've had a superb day's racing.
56:17We had the youngest, newcomer, 23-year-old with a double.
56:21We've had the veteran, Jeremy, getting a single.
56:24And we've had three previous winners.
56:26Glenn Irwin, Peter Hickman and Michael Dunlap all repeating.
56:30Alana, what's been your favourite moment this week?
56:34I don't really think I can pick out one single moment.
56:36The whole event has just been brilliant from start to finish.
56:39Touched with sadness, of course, with the death of Camille Holen and our thoughts go out to Camille's family.
56:46But, hopefully, the racing that we've seen today was a good tribute to the family.
56:50Yeah, let's hope so.
56:51And, of course, all of our thoughts are obviously still with the family of Camille Holen.
56:56Absolutely.
56:56And that brings us to the end of this year's Northwest 200.
56:59You can relive all the racing again on the BBC iPlayer.
57:03Both of our highlight shows are available on demand.
57:07We'll be back next year, as we will until the centenary of this event,
57:11because BBC Sport has signed an extension to its contract with the Northwest 200,
57:16which we're all very excited about.
57:18But, for now, from all of us here on the North Coast, it's bye-bye.
57:41Life will drive you crazy.
57:45I'm on the right track.
57:50I'm on the right track.
57:52I'm losing.
