00:00ABNOS Kairi Jamaluddin says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has stabilized the economy and
00:05improved Malaysia's standing with investors.
00:08However, the former health minister also said that ordinary Malaysians had yet to feel the
00:13benefits, Bloomberg reported.
00:15Malaysia's economy grew 5.3% in the first quarter, outpacing Thailand and Singapore,
00:20while the Ringgit extended its run as Asia's best-performing currency against the dollar
00:24for the second year in a row.
00:26Kairi said the man on the street is not feeling the macroeconomic numbers, GDP growth, lower
00:32unemployment or stronger Ringgit.
00:34He also said younger voters wanted politicians who recognized concerns over living costs,
00:39identity, jobs and economic mobility.
00:42According to Bloomberg, UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is banking on Kairi's return to
00:47UMNO to woo young Malay voters who left the party following the 1MTB scandal.
00:52Kairi, who was sacked in January 2023 and readmitted last month, said Zahid was taking
00:57him back as he was, but he would be mindful of party decorum and discipline.
01:03Dhanush Rajareza, FMT.
