01:36certainly God is good to Israel and to those whose motives are pure
01:42but as for me my feet almost slipped my feet almost slid out from under me for I envied those

01:51are proud as I observe the prosperity of the wicked for they suffer no pain their bodies are strong and
01:59well fed they are immune to the common trouble to men they do not suffer as other men do arrogance

02:08their necklace and violence covers them like clothing their prosperity causes them to do wrong and their
02:17thoughts are sinful they mock and say evil things they proudly threaten violence they speak as if they
02:27rule in heaven and lay claim to the earth therefore they have more than enough food to eat and even
02:35suck up the
02:35water of the sea they say how does God know what we do is the most high aware of what
02:44goes on
02:46take a good look this is what the wicked are like those who always have it so easy and get
02:54richer and richer
02:56I concluded surely in vain I have kept my motives pure and maintained a pure lifestyle
03:05I suffer all day long and I am punished every morning
03:11if I had publicized these thoughts I would have betrayed your people
03:17and when I tried to make sense of this it was troubling to me
03:23then I entered the precincts of God's temple and I understood the destiny of the wicked
03:31surely you put them in slippery places and you bring them down to ruin
03:37how desolate they become in a mere moment terrifying judgments make their demise complete
03:47they are like a dream after one wakes up O Lord when you awake you will despise them
03:55yes my spirit was bitter and my insides felt sharp pain
03:59I was ignorant and lacked insight I was as senseless as an animal before you
04:08but I am continually with you you hold my right hand
04:13you guide me by your wise advice and then you will lead me to a position of honour
04:19whom do I have in heaven but you
04:22I desire no one but you on earth
04:27my flesh and my heart may grow weak
04:30but God always protects my heart and gives me stability
04:34yes look those far from you die
04:37you destroy everyone who is unfaithful to you
04:42but as for me God's presence is all I need
04:46I have made the sovereign Lord my shelter
04:49as I declare all the things you have done

05:11Why O God have you permanently rejected us?
05:14Why does your anger burn against the sheep of your pasture?
05:22Remember your people whom you acquired in ancient times
05:26whom you rescued so that they could be your very own nation
05:30as well as Mount Zion where you dwell
05:35hurry to the permanent ruins and to all the damage the enemy has done to the temple
05:41your enemies roar in the middle of your sanctuary
05:45they set up their battle flags
05:48they invade like lumberjacks swinging their axes in a thick forest
05:54and now they are tearing down all its engravings with axes and crowbars
06:00they set your sanctuary on fire
06:02they desecrate your dwelling place by knocking it to the ground
06:09they say to themselves
06:10we will oppress all of them
06:13they burn down all the places where people worship God in the land
06:20we do not see any signs of God's presence
06:22there are no longer any prophets
06:25and we have no one to tell us how long this will last
06:29how long O God
06:31will the adversary hurl insults
06:34will the enemy blaspheme your name forever
06:38why do you remain inactive
06:41intervene and destroy him
06:45but God has been my king from ancient times
06:49performing acts of deliverance on the earth
06:53you destroyed the sea by your strength
06:55you shattered the heads of the sea monster in the water
07:00you crushed the heads of the leviathan
07:03you fed him to the people who live along the coast
07:07you broke open the spring and the stream
07:09you dried up perpetually flowing rivers
07:14you established the cycle of day and night
07:17you put the moon and the sun in place
07:21you set up all the boundaries of the earth
07:24you created the cycle of summer and winter
07:29remember how the enemy hurls insults O Lord
07:32and how a foolish nation blasphemes your name
07:37do not hand the life of your dove over to a wild animal
07:42do not continue to disregard the lives of your oppressed people
07:48remember your covenant promises
07:50for the dark regions of the earth
07:52are full of places where violence rules
07:57do not let the afflicted be turned back in shame
08:01let the oppressed and the poor praise your name
08:06rise up O God
08:07defend your honour
08:08remember how fools insult you all day long
08:13do not disregard what your enemies say
08:16or the unceasing shouts of those who defy you
08:21glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit

08:38be sober be vigilant
08:41because your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion
08:47seeking someone to devour
08:52resist him
08:53be strong in the faith
08:59keep watch dear Lord with those who wake or watch or weep this night
09:05and give your angels charge over those who sleep
09:11tend the sick
09:12give rest to the weary
09:14sustain the dying
09:17calm the suffering
09:19and pity the distressed
