In hour two, Coach L is fired up to teach Solana about the history of the Knicks and MSG. Is LeBron on the Mt Rushmore of Lakers? Incredible stats from Wemby through his first three seasons. Plus, more proof that Coach L basically recruited every great college basketball player.

00:00Coach Laranaga will stay with us for this entire hour.
00:03He is the winningest head coach in U.M. men's basketball history,
00:08and we are very lucky to have him with us for an hour on Wednesdays
00:13to talk hoops and nonsense as well.
00:16There's a lot to get to.
00:18Now, admittedly, we enjoy poking Solana because he is an unabashed Heat fan,
00:24and I like people who wear their fandom on their sleeve.
00:28That's what makes this medium go around.
00:31But would you acknowledge, Coach, that the Knicks being relevant is good for the sport?
00:40Of course.
00:42That's a ridiculous question.
00:46Thanks.
00:47Solana doesn't – he's not looking at the question.
00:49He's not hearing the question and the reason you're asking it.
00:53So I'm going to ask Solana a simple question.
00:56All right, Solana, can you answer this for me?
01:00What's the name of the Knicks arena?
01:04I don't know.
01:05No idea.
01:07So that tells me how little knowledge you have about the NBA
01:13because it's the world's most famous arena.
01:16It's introduced to you every game that way.
01:20What is it, the Barclays Center?
01:21Yeah, yeah.
01:26That cuts deep.
01:28I just want to – one question for you, Coach.
01:31One question here.
01:34You're born in New York City in the Bronx?
01:37That's correct.
01:38Oh, okay, okay.
01:39All right, no further questions.
01:41And I went to Madison Square Garden when I was 10 years old
01:44to watch my brother St. John's team play against Ohio State.
01:48And they had Jerry Lucas and a lot of players that became very famous as NBA guys.
01:56But you're too young to appreciate the history of the NBA,
02:00and the NBA wouldn't be what it is without the Knicks.
02:06And if you're looking at what the NBA needs to stay at the top of its game financially,
02:14they need the Knicks, the Lakers, the Celtics, the traditional franchises to do well.
02:23So, what's going on last year with the Knicks and now this year following it up?
02:28And I don't know what would happen if LeBron went there.
02:33If LeBron – you couldn't get a ticket into Madison Square.
02:37It's called Madison Square Garden, by the way, Solana.
02:40Maybe you never heard that before.
02:42Or MSG.
02:43Everybody knows it as MSG.
02:45He is broiling mad right now, Coach.
02:48He is just broiling mad.
02:50Now, I am a huge Miami Heat fan.
02:53We all are.
02:54It's not like I'm not cheering for the Heat to get back and win another world championship.
03:00But as far as the strength of the NBA, does it do better when the Knicks are relevant?
03:09The answer is absolutely.
03:14You know what's funny, Coach, is I wouldn't have to think about a scenario where LeBron joins a team
03:22and there's no tickets available or tickets are wildly expensive and arenas are sold out
03:28because I lived it already.
03:29I saw that already when he joined the Miami Heat and when he played alongside Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.
03:35Like, I lived that already.
03:36I don't need to live it again with him in those ugly blue and orange colorways and uniforms.
03:42Like, it's been done.
03:43We don't need to do it again.
03:47Mr. 305.
03:49Dale.
03:49Dale.
03:50Dale.
03:50God bless.
03:51Dale.
03:54Dale.
03:55Thank you, Jimmy.
03:56You're welcome.
03:58305.
03:59It's sponsored by the Miami Lakes Chevrolet.
04:01Not the Miami Lakes Chevrolet, but just all of Miami Lakes Chevrolet, where you walk in
04:06as a customer and drive out as family.
04:09I got thrown off there because it didn't sound like you said you're welcome.
04:12It almost sounded like you're a walk-in or something.
04:15I know.
04:15I got nervous.
04:16I don't know what he said there.
04:17You got nervous in front of Coach Al, Jimmy?
04:19How about Solana acting like the Knicks are a boring team to watch?
04:23Coach.
04:24They scored 144 points.
04:26They won 144 to 14.
04:29They win by 30.
04:31They make 25 threes.
04:33They have 33 assists, but I guess that's just not good enough basketball for Solana
04:38to appreciate the way they eliminated and swept the Philadelphia 76ers.
04:45Due to the finals.
04:46Yeah, and Coach, Jalen Brunson, he's good because he's on the Knicks.
04:51If he was in Sacramento, nobody would know his name.
04:54Solana is delusional, Coach.
04:56Jalen Brunson would be a dog anywhere.
04:58He is a dog.
04:59I think Jalen Brunson is an all-star.
05:01He's a great player, and he's the best player on that team, and the New York Knicks are a quality
05:05basketball team.
05:06I'm not taking that away from them, but Jalen Brunson is talked about like he's one of the top five,
05:12top ten players in the NBA.
05:14That shows you the power of MSG.
05:16That literally is because he plays at the Mecca.
05:20Simply because he plays for the Knicks.
05:22It's just like Carmelo Anthony when he played with the Knicks.
05:24I remember going into that Heat-Knicks series in the first round when I was being told by Knicks fans
05:30everywhere that they were going to beat the Heat,
05:32and Melo was just as good as Dwayne Wade and LeBron James, and it's just lunacy.
05:37Like, it's not true.
05:39None of it mattered.
05:40The Heat were up 3-0 in that series.
05:42Should have swept them 1-5, and I never had to hear about the stupid Knicks ever again.
05:47How about this?
05:48I have a question.
05:49How many people, what are the TV audience who's watching the Cavaliers play the Pistons as compared to the Knicks
06:01playing the 76ers?
06:03Yeah, I mean, it had to be wildly different.
06:06I would imagine the only people watching the Cavs' Pistons is Max Struess' family.
06:13You better hope they have a Nielsen box.
06:16But the rivalries, I mean, some of what makes the NBA so great.
06:22You guys were raving, absolutely adoring what Wimby did the other night.
06:29Oh, he had 27.
06:31I was like, yeah, so, you know.
06:34You're talking about last night?
06:3627 and 17?
06:37What?
06:38You're talking about last night?
06:39He had 27 points.
06:41Coach, he went crazy.
06:42Yeah?
06:43He had 16 in the first.
06:46He had 27 points.
06:50The other night, Spider-Man had four in the first half, and I think he had like 39 in the
06:58second half.
06:58Yeah.
06:59Right?
07:01Coach, you know what, Coach?
07:02Now, you watch a player like that.
07:05He's not 7'4".
07:07He's not wildly talented as a guy like Wimby, but, you know, the Spurs, they're good, and I think they're
07:17going to make it to the finals, but I think OKC is going to handle them.
07:21And then what are you going to say?
07:23Wimby doesn't win a championship.
07:25What year is he now?
07:26I got to go back, Coach, because this was a big conversation on this show.
07:30Should Wimby have played last night?
07:33Because Solana thinks the precedent of elbowing a guy, he should have missed the remainder of Game 4 and Game
07:405.
07:42If that's true, half the guys that fouled him and grabbed his arm, his jersey, and were basically abusing him
07:51every minute of the game, they should be thrown out and suspended for the rest of the season.
07:57But Wimby handles it very well, and he came back like a champion does.
08:03He got kicked out of the game.
08:04He didn't sulk.
08:05He came back.
08:06He didn't get thrown out again.
08:08He didn't have a temper tantrum.
08:10And he didn't cost his team the series, came back and won the next game and dominated.
08:16And, Coach, about Wimby, we talked about this, too.
08:19You're not going to out-jump him.
08:21You're not going to out-run him.
08:22He can shoot threes.
08:24He can get in the paint.
08:25Like, we kind of saw the weakness of you can get under his skin as a coach because we saw
08:31Anthony Edwards pushing Wimby when they were inbounding the ball.
08:36He just ran up and pushed Wimby in the back.
08:37You saw all the players, all the Minnesota players just pushing him and trying to, like, is that a coaching
08:43approach to say, hey, go get under this guy's skin because he emotionally can't handle that?
08:49Oh, you remember when Michael Jordan was dominating the league but Detroit Pistons won championships?
08:55Because they were the bad boys.
08:57They learned how to beat him up and still win the game.
09:01Guys didn't get thrown out then.
09:03The game is very, very physical.
09:05I'm impressed by the way Wimby handled having been thrown out and bouncing back and dominating the game and getting
09:13his team a W.
09:14That's impressive to me.
09:16Now, what happens is the message goes around the league.
09:20I saw a video on Instagram of all the times that he got fouled that wasn't called.
09:28And I'm watching.
09:30I said, that's a foul.
09:31Oh, my God.
09:31That's another foul.
09:33Oh.
09:33And they're like 10 straight video clips of Wimby getting crushed and no calls being made.
09:40So, you got to give him credit.
09:43He bounced back in a big way.
09:45Very, very impressive young man.
09:47He hasn't won a championship yet.
09:49I know you're not ready to anoint him.
09:52You always say he hasn't won a championship yet.
09:54But I have a question for you.
09:56Does Victor Wimbanyama go on the Mount Rushmore of all-time San Antonio Spurs right now?
10:03Oh, well, you have a long list of NBA champions that belong on that Mount Rushmore.
10:11Right.
10:12David Robinson, Tim Duncan are going to go on there.
10:14Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili.
10:18Does Manu Ginobili go on the Mount Rushmore of Spurs over Wemby right now?
10:23Yeah, because he did it for, what, 15 years.
10:28Parker?
10:28Tony Parker.
10:29Same thing.
10:30Those guys won multiple championships over a long period of time.
10:36And I think Greg Popovich belongs on the Mount Rushmore of NBA coaches because of what he was able to
10:45do in building a franchise culture.
10:49That's one of the reasons why Pat Riley and Eric Spolster is so great.
10:53The culture they have built and what they've done and sustained over a very long period of time is very,
11:02very impressive.
11:03And now that it's a little bit of a downturn, finishing 10th several years in a row, okay, what are
11:10we going to do next?
11:11All I hear, I think you guys mentioned it in the first segment, is Tylee Hero going to be back.
11:17Those are the big decisions.
11:20Those decisions, not everybody agrees with you.
11:24No matter what Pat Riley and the Miami Heat do, they're going to be detractors.
11:29They're going to be people who say, that's a mistake.
11:31Tylee Hero is the face of the franchise.
11:35Or, you keep them and you're going to have detractors saying, man, they should have got rid of him while
11:40he was worth something.
11:43So, Lana, you looked like you wanted to jump in.
11:45I was just going to say, Wemby's not even the greatest player from France in the history of the San
11:49Antonio Spurs organization.
11:51We didn't even talk about George Girvin.
11:54Kawhi Leonard beat LeBron and was Finals MVP in 2014.
11:58And I happen to think Boris Diaw deserves a nod as well, since we're talking about it.
12:04I mean, I'll throw Sean Elliott on there.
12:06I think he's as good as Busellis, don't you?
12:09Listen, nobody touches Boozy.
12:11How dare you?
12:12Now, let me ask you this.
12:14That leads me into this next question.
12:16Because I think we're all in agreement that LeBron is the second best player in NBA history.
12:22Yes.
12:22Well, Solana maybe thinks LeBron is the greatest.
12:25Do you think he's the second best MJ coach?
12:28Yeah, I have a hard time singling out one over the other because of my history in the game.
12:37If you look at the history of the game, you have to start with Will Chamberlain and Bill Russell, Kareem
12:43Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, all through that period where everybody says, well, the players weren't nearly as good.
12:52There were only eight teams.
12:53There was only like 80 players in the league.
12:56It was very, very talented.
12:58Then you come up to the next generation with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.
13:03Those guys were the best during that period.
13:05Then Michael Jordan arrives.
13:07And what does he do?
13:08He wins six championships.
13:10It's hard to measure greatness without including winning.
13:15Now, let me just ask you this.
13:19Is LeBron on the Mount Rushmore.
13:22And we talked yesterday about LeBron has spent more time with the Lakers than any franchise in the NBA.
13:30Eight seasons with the Lakers.
13:32Hard to believe.
13:33I see you're doing the math there.
13:34But it's how many.
13:36How many did he play with the Cavs before he came to Miami?
13:39Solana.
13:40Rookie deal.
13:41Oh, four to 2010.
13:43So six seasons.
13:45Yeah.
13:46Six or seven.
13:46And then he came.
13:47He went back there for how many?
13:49Uh, four.
13:51Four.
13:51So he probably played 10 total in Cleveland, but eight straight in LA.
13:56So it's the longest straight stint of his NBA career has been with the Lakers is LeBron James on the
14:03Mount Rushmore of Lakers.
14:06Oh, they have one championship.
14:11So you got to give them credit for that.
14:13I know it was during COVID and all that stuff, but they want it.
14:16I mean, you still, there's going to be a champion and he's got one there, but here, here's the thing.
14:22One of the, one of the reasons I think he belongs in the conversation of being the greatest is look
14:29how long he's played.
14:31Look how long he has competed at the highest level, even into his forties.
14:38So, yeah, he, he belongs there with the greatest Lakers, but the Lakers have a, a large group of guys
14:48that belong on Mount Rushmore.
14:49Or start starting with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor.
14:53Magic.
14:54And then Kobe.
14:56Kareem.
14:57Will Chamberlain.
14:58Yeah.
14:58Kobe Bryant.
14:59Shaq.
15:00Shaq.
15:01I mean, they got it.
15:02James Worthy.
15:04Uh, there's a host of Laker players that you have to have a discussion as about what your criteria is.
15:13And now that, that LeBron's been there eight years, it's not like he just went there for a year or
15:19two.
15:20He's been there a while now.
15:22And he's at the end of his career.
15:25So you didn't even see him at his best with the Lakers.
15:28And he's still statistically one of the best players in the NBA.
15:32Pau Gasol.
15:33Of course.
15:34Mark Lansberg.
15:35Pau Gasol.
15:36Hey coach, could, could LeBron do anything?
15:39Cause he's not playing another 10 years.
15:41Max two.
15:42I would say probably one.
15:44If he goes to the Knicks and wins a tie, he stays in LA and they don't make the playoffs.
15:48Can LeBron do anything to negatively or positively affect his legacy at this point in his career?
15:53Well, I, I, I, you can look at Michael Jordan.
15:56Did it damage his reputation, uh, that he went to the wizards and played with a terrible team?
16:03It did for this young guy.
16:04It didn't for me.
16:05And I think normal people, but Solana does hold that against him.
16:09I don't hold it against him coach.
16:11I genuinely don't.
16:12I think it was, it was awesome.
16:13I got to watch Michael Jordan because he went to the Washington wizards.
16:16I remember going to the game.
16:18So I think that's awesome, but I do find it funny.
16:21We're talking about longevity when it comes to LeBron and he's 41 years old and he's winning
16:26playoff series.
16:27And he's literally still one of the best statistical players in the league at this age.
16:33And people don't take that into account when they look back at what Jordan did when he
16:38came back and it was just a standard of, wow, he's scoring 18 points a game, or he's
16:43scoring 20 points a game, but it didn't impact winning.
16:45So I think that's a huge nod for LeBron James.
16:49The fact that he's still playing at this level, the fact that he's still competing and the
16:52fact that he can still take over games in a way that Michael couldn't at this stage in
16:57his life.
16:58Well, I agree that Michael couldn't do it.
17:00Let's say I was at the, the wizards were playing the Denver nuggets, Michael's last year.
17:05And in the fourth quarter, the wizards were going to Michael and the Denver nuggets were
17:11going to Earl Boykin and Earl Boykin is like five foot three, five foot four.
17:17And, and the nuggets win the game.
17:20Earl Boykin scores like 28 or 35 or something ridiculous.
17:24Michael has a good scoring game too, but the nuggets win the game.
17:28But what you're saying is so true, LeBron for the, you got, the only guy you can compare
17:34him to is Kareem Kareem in his forties was still leading the Lakers to a championship.
17:40I mean, that that's incredible.
17:43I mean, I know Hawk you, you, in your forties, early forties, you were still dominating in the,
17:49in the park games, right?
17:50In the gym.
17:52I was focusing more on radio at that point, but you were dominating cholesterol, dominating
18:00cholesterol.
18:02Speaking of Earl Boykins, I love thinking of, uh, NBA names from the past.
18:07Do you remember Purvis Ellison's nickname?
18:11Never nervous Purvis.
18:13Nailed it.
18:14Wow.
18:15Okay.
18:16Excellent.
18:18Did you know I recruited Purvis Ellison?
18:21How the hell would I know that?
18:24Of course you did.
18:25I thought everybody knew that.
18:26Okay.
18:27So Purvis Ellison is from Georgia and I go to the BC basketball camp in Milledgeville, Georgia.
18:34And I watched this kid play.
18:36Nobody knows about him.
18:39BC basketball camp is Bill Crownauer's basketball camp.
18:43So I go to Bill Crownauer and I said, Hey, who the heck is this kid?
18:47And he said, I never heard of him.
18:49I said, which all-star game did he make?
18:51And he said, he made the all-star team.
18:53I said, I'm assuming he's in the top 20 all-star game.
18:56He looks at it.
18:57He says, no, he's in the, uh, second 20.
19:01I said, Bill, don't embarrass yourself.
19:03This kid is a great player.
19:04He's probably the best player at the camp.
19:06You better put him in the top 20.
19:08So I recruit him.
19:10I recruit him.
19:10He comes to Virginia on a visit and on the visit, he tells me, tells me he arrives and
19:18I'm talking to him and saying, Hey, you know, do we have a good shot at you?
19:21And he said, no, I said, no, he said, no, I didn't even want to come on the visit.
19:27I've narrowed my choices down to two.
19:29I'm either going to Georgia tech or Louisville.
19:33I'm either going to Georgia tech on Wednesday, the first day of the signing period, or I'm
19:37going to Louisville on Saturday.
19:39I'm signing with them.
19:40I said, why in the world would you narrow it down to those two schools and say, you're
19:46going to sign with one on Wednesday and the other on Saturday?
19:49He said, cause Georgia tech hasn't offered me a scholarship yet.
19:53They're telling me I have to wait for Tommy Hammonds.
19:57If Tommy Hammonds chooses Georgia tech, I can't go there.
20:02Tommy Hammonds chooses Georgia tech.
20:04Purvis Ellison goes to Louisville, leads them to the NCAA championship.
20:10And he's named the most outstanding player as a freshman.
20:16Never nervous Purvis.
20:19I got, I got to ask you this about, it makes me think about blue chips.
20:23The movie with Nick Nolte is like nowadays.
20:26I don't think that can happen because there's so much media, but you talking about Purvis where
20:31like there used to be neon bedows where nobody knew about players and you can go sneak out
20:36into a Louisiana muck and find a player.
20:40Yeah.
20:40There's still guys like that.
20:42There's still plenty of guys that don't get heavily recruited that turn out to be NBA players.
20:49No, it's very, very hard because right now everybody, now it's changed.
20:55Everybody recruits the portal and recruits Europe.
20:58They don't, everybody's got international players on their roster, juniors and seniors.
21:03Not that many guys are recruiting high school, but it used to be you recruited the, the shoe
21:11leagues, the EYBL, which is the Nike shoe league and the Adidas gauntlet and, and the Under Armour
21:20circuit.
21:22There's now Pumas out, got a league at New Balance, but you can get lost.
21:28You can play for some unknown team in the, on the Under Armour circuit and no one watch you play
21:34because that team is not that good and you don't have much of a reputation.
21:39All right.
21:40Let's do a headlines real quick here, and then we can have another segment with coach L headlines
21:45brought to you by Dural Kia.
21:46You always pay less with your price Cito at Dural Kia.
21:49Visit them at Dural Kia or Dural Kia.com.
21:53Locally, Los Modelins did lose three nothing yesterday in Minnesota.
21:57That was game one of their three game series.
21:59They'll play tonight, 7 40 PM, and then they'll play tomorrow.
22:03That's a one o'clock game.
22:05It's a getaway game for the fish.
22:07Also tonight, inner Miami, they're at FC Cincinnati.
22:11That'll be a 7 30 PM tip off, a kickoff.
22:17There was some Kane's hoops news.
22:19Coach L.
22:19I wonder if you'll be making the trip over to Tampa UF and Miami will open their college
22:24basketball season next year, this upcoming season against one another, a neutral site
22:29game, November 2nd in Tampa, Florida.
22:34Sent that to my son yesterday and I graduated university of Tampa and he's staying in Tampa.
22:39And I said, here you go.
22:40Mark it on your calendar.
22:41You got something to do.
22:42Did you mind coaching a neutral site game coach?
22:46No, neutral site games were great.
22:48Yeah.
22:48Hey, I got a question for you.
22:51So do you guys know who's the legendary coach of the basketball team at the university of
22:57Tampa?
22:59He was there for, I don't know, 40 years.
23:03His name is Richard Schmidt.
23:06You know how I know him?
23:09Cause you beat him.
23:10You recruited him.
23:11I, I replaced them.
23:13No, he was the assistant coach at the university of Virginia.
23:18He was a high school basketball coach coaching Jeff lamp, who was a, an all American at Virginia.
23:25Terry Holland, the head coach hired Richard Schmidt, Richard Schmidt signed Jeff lamp.
23:32Uh, Richard Schmidt stayed two years at UVA left to become the head coach of Vanderbilt and
23:38Jim Larenaga replaced Richard Schmidt at UVA.
23:42And for the next seven years, we had Ralph Sampson, Jeff lamp, and a lot of great players
23:47got to the final four twice, but didn't win a chance.
23:51That guy got exiled at the university of Tampa.
23:53Coach, what kind of, what kind of supplements do you take for your memory?
23:57Ginkgo biloba.
23:58You got to take something, coach.
24:00This is crazy.
24:00The stuff you remember.
24:02Yeah.
24:03I only remember stuff about basketball.
24:05It is remarkable.
24:07I don't, I don't know.
24:07I don't know my next door neighbor's name.
24:09And even if I heard it, I wouldn't recognize those Burvis Ellison's nickname.
24:13He doesn't know his neighbor's name.
24:15Exactly.
24:16These stores are wild.
24:18Hey, listen, I, my wife remembers everybody's name, everybody's.
24:22And she remembers your story.
24:24If you tell her a story about your family from 20 years ago, when she sees you, she will
24:31remember number one, who you are, what your name is and everything about your family.
24:37My wife, my wife loves golf.
24:40You know that we belong to Riviera country club.
24:43Do you play golf?
24:44We belong to Riviera country club.
24:46He does not.
24:47Coach L does not play golf.
24:48I do not play golf.
24:49But you know what my wife is doing right now to get ready for her golf.
24:56She's, she's outside sunning her feet because she wears, she wears shoes.
25:06And then she, when she goes without a golf shoes, her white feet show.
25:11So she's out, out on, on, on the front porch.
25:15She's setting the base.
25:16She's in the shade.
25:18Her whole body's in the shade, but her feet are out, out in the sun so that they don't look
25:24ridiculous.
25:24And she's walking with her sandals and slides, the savvy veteran move.
25:30That's a savvy veteran golfer move.
25:32The Larry Negus strategy sounds amazing.
25:36What else we got?
25:37Solana, uh, the NFL schedule does drop tomorrow night, 8 PM.
25:41We have the full slate of international games that was released.
25:45How about the Steelers and the saints playing in party?
25:49That's the first game ever in Paris.
25:50No international games for the dolphins dolphins fans.
25:54None.
25:55I don't know if people get annoyed by that or if they like that.
25:58I don't know which, I don't know what fans prefer.
26:00Rich people like it so they can travel.
26:02Normal people hate it because they can't go to the game.
26:06No, I think here's how it works.
26:08If you lose a home game, fans complain because they're saying, why are we losing a home game?
26:13But since the dolphins weren't included in the international slate fans complain because Hey,
26:18why aren't the dolphins included in the international?
26:20Right.
26:20We're being disrespected.
26:22Right.
26:22So either way, the Falcons have an international game.
26:26Yes.
26:26The Falcons play at the Santiago Bernabéu.
26:30Oh, that's right.
26:30Two is one and O there already.
26:32He has a chance to go two and O.
26:34Yep.
26:35At the Berranino.
26:38That's right.
26:38The Berranino.
26:40Coach.
26:41Yes.
26:42Since you quiz me on the Barclays Center, right?
26:45That's what it's called in New York.
26:46That's where the Knicks play.
26:48Yeah.
26:48Do you know where Real Madrid plays?
26:50My son played for Real Madrid.
26:53They play in Madrid.
26:59I was there.
27:01I watched the practice there.
27:03I don't know the name of the arena, though.
27:05I'm sorry to say.
27:07You're going to give the point to Coach Al.
27:09Hey, I got to tell you this because you'll love it.
27:12So my son signs with Real Madrid, flies into Madrid, gets off the plane.
27:19The coach and the manager greet him.
27:21They hand him a cell phone, said, you can use this.
27:24They give him a car.
27:26What's a really good car?
27:28Not a Porsche, but something.
27:29Anyway, they give him like a Ferrari or something.
27:32And they bring him to the arena.
27:34Now they're going to introduce him to the other players and stuff.
27:37And as he's coming in, the place is absolutely packed and rocking.
27:43And he's like, wow, this is awesome.
27:46These people are all here to greet me.
27:48And then as he gets past security, they said, hey, move over.
27:53David Beckham's coming.
27:56How about that?
27:59That's cool.
28:00Go from here to there.
28:04You know all the NBA arenas, Solana?
28:07Where do the Bulls play?
28:09United Center.
28:10Incorrect.
28:11It is called the house that Boozelis built.
28:14Goodness gracious.
28:18I thought it was the house that Will Perdue built.
28:21Oh, did I love Will Perdue.
28:24I recruited him.
28:26Coach, you recruited everybody, Coach.
28:29Actually, hey, Hawk, you'll appreciate this.
28:33Terry Holland sent me down to Florida to watch Will Perdue play.
28:38Up north, Daytona or Jacksonville someplace.
28:41So I go watch him play.
28:42And I come back to Charlottesville.
28:46And he says, well, what do you think?
28:47I said, he stinks.
28:48I can't believe we wasted my time going there.
28:51He's like 6'9 or 10.
28:54He runs like a duck.
28:57He can't.
28:58He's not a basketball player.
29:00He's just tall.
29:02So the kid signs with Vanderbilt.
29:04And it's like three-time SEC player of the year.
29:07He was a mountain of a man.
29:09And Terry Holland says to me, you said he was a duck?
29:12I think you're the duck.
29:16That's amazing.
29:17Hey, did you recruit Dwayne Wade when he went to Marquette coach?
29:20No.
29:21You did not?
29:21No.
29:22I was at George Mason at the time.
29:24We were not recruiting players of his caliber.
29:27I was going to say, you weren't in the sweepstakes at George Mason for D. Wade.
29:32Although, if we had him, we probably would have won the national championship in 06.
29:36Came damn close without him.
29:39That Florida team we went against, Corey Brewer, Al Orson, Joakim Noah.
29:46Yeah, Pete.
29:48Anthony, the point guard number one.
29:50Yeah, Coach.
29:51They're my buddies.
29:52Look how Crowder lights up.
29:55Sidney Green's son.
29:56What's his name with the point guard?
29:58Sidney Green, Bulls legend.
30:00We called him Peep.
30:02His nickname's Peep.
30:03I don't remember his first name.
30:04We just all called him Peep.
30:06I can't think of it.
30:07It was like Trey.
30:11No, I can't remember.
30:13Yeah, I don't need a coach.
30:14The shooting guard.
30:14You guys remember the shooting guard is the one who beat me?
30:17Yeah.
30:18Lee Humphreys.
30:19Toreen Green.
30:20Lee could play.
30:21Toreen Green.
30:22Toreen Green.
30:23Toreen.
30:24I think I stole his girlfriend, Coach.
30:27Really?
30:28Yeah.
30:29He was talking to a girl, and then I was already a little older,
30:32and I'm attractive like I am, and I think I undercut him.
30:35You're a stud.
30:36There's no question about it.
30:38See, Crowder was on the recruiting trail as well.
30:41I recruited different, Coach.
30:43He was recruiting talent also.
30:47Coach, the way you remember everything about basketball,
30:50Crowder remembers everything about his partying.
30:53At UF.
30:55At UF.
30:55At UF.
30:55At UF.
