00:30Like I started writing the script without realizing that that's what it was about
00:35And by the time I got to the end it was so clear and so necessary
00:39But I had to get through all 190 pages of the script
00:44To realize that that's what I was working my way towards
00:46And I find that for myself that's a lesson to learn in life
00:50Because I need to cut to the chase and say sorry more often

00:59I think that Sam probably owes Mother Mary an apology
01:05But I think that she is so calcified
01:13And she's, there's a lot going on inside of her
01:18And I think it takes strength to give an apology
01:25And when I think back, every time I think back to the film and the script
01:30I feel that what Mother Mary gives Sam at the end that story
01:35Is something that Sam Anselm is still not quite ready to give to Mother Mary
01:41I think that their work relationship
01:43When I think back, you know, before the ten years they didn't speak
01:47Became quite difficult and became quite toxic in a way
01:52There were power struggles that weren't conducive to an environment
01:58In which a pop star and their team can thrive
02:01And I think Sam is still very fragile
02:05She has this exterior
02:07But she's still too broken to say that, to say sorry
02:11I think it talks about the toll that it takes
02:19Because, you know, when you don't meet people human to human
02:23I mean, even the name Ghost
02:25It implies that something's not alive anymore
02:29And that's just, that's such a brutal thing to go through
02:33It's such a brutal thing to put someone through
02:36I mean, I'm sure we've all made mistakes
02:37I know I have
02:38But it's important to, over the course of your life
02:41Develop into a person who has the kind of character
02:44Where you can have direct conversations
02:46Acknowledge how you feel
02:47And kind of, I don't know
02:49Accept the chips as they fall
02:50I think we're all haunted by versions of ourselves
03:07And those versions are not bound by time or space
03:09So they can be projections of who we think we might become
03:12Or who we've been in the past
03:15And they hang around us all the time
03:17And sometimes they're helpful
03:20And other times we would do well to exercise them
03:23But this was a movie where I wanted them all represented
03:26All of those versions
03:27And what better way to do that
03:29Than through the incredible costumes that we had in this movie
03:33I think it's good and it's healthy for our present selves to have let our ghosts go
03:54But when you're playing a character that needs ghosts
03:58You have to go looking through the attic and the basement
04:01And you have to find them
04:03And this project was an opportunity to find not just my own childhood ghosts
04:11But to look for my mother's ghosts
04:14What was my mother holding on to?
04:18What were the songs she was listening to when I was a kid
04:22That would make her cry
04:23And just looking for scavenging
04:26For ghosts like pain
04:30Is useful to bring back into your life
04:33And then release again when the project is done
05:02I don't know that I necessarily had anything
05:05Something that I wanted to say in particular
05:07I just wanted to be a part of David's story
05:10I believed in all of it
05:11I believed in what you were saying about ghosts
05:13I believed in what you were saying about forgiveness
05:15I believed in what you were saying about burnout
05:17And I think one of the things that was very interesting
05:20Is watching someone that the world thinks of as otherworldly
05:26Have to confront their own just very, very, very human nature
05:31And what that costs
05:34And I loved that she wanted to go there
05:37At the same time
05:37I don't think she had another choice
05:39I think that for me
05:40So much of Mother Mary's journey on this
05:42Is it's a cry to survive
05:46You know, I think this is kind of her last ditch effort
05:48To try to live
05:50And to try to not turn into a ghost
05:51The way she's felt like a living ghost
05:53For all of these years
