00:07The National Assembly of Venezuela addressed the historical significance of
00:12defending territorial sovereignty over the Ezequiel region before the International
00:17Code of Justice. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that it intercepted and
00:25neutralized 286 Ukrainian drones early Wednesday morning and US President Donald
00:36Trump arrived in China for a diplomatic visit where he is expected to meet his
00:39counterpart Xi Jinping. Hello welcome from the South I'm Luis Alberto Matos from
00:51WSU Studios in Caracas Venezuela we begin with the news.
01:05The National Assembly of Venezuela addressed the historical significance of
01:10defending territorial sovereignty over the Ezequiel region before the International
01:16Court of Justice. During a regular session on Tuesday the National Assembly
01:21unanimously approved an agreement to support the comprehensive defense of
01:26Guayana Ezequiel territory and the legal strategy that Venezuela maintains before
01:32the ICJ. In this scenario the deputy stated that this is a decisive moment that must
01:37transcend partisan interests as defending Ezequiel requires unity beyond ideological
01:42differences. The National Assembly referenced historical legal and cartographic
01:47documents dating back to the 18th century to demonstrate the invalidity of the 1899
01:52arbitral award. The deputies also emphasized the 1966 Geneva agreement is the only valid
01:58binding legal instrument that can lead to a practical satisfactory solution for both parties.
02:10And I believe that if they see us united they will have no choice but to comply with the law.
02:18I am
02:19referring to the officials of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and their coordinators. To use the words of this
02:33program. They will have no choice but to understand that there are historical and legal facts, traditions and sufficient evidence.
02:49In this regard the acting president of Venezuela, Tedes Rodríguez, reaffirmed the honor to defend the sovereignty over Guayana Ezequiel
02:56and give up before the International Court of Justice on behalf of the Venezuelan people. On her social media the
03:02acting
03:02prince stated, we are always proud to be Venezuelans and to have defended our beloved Venezuela at The Hague.
03:24Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez-Parrilla denounced the United States government's multidimensional aggression against the island.
03:33In an interview with ABC, the diplomat stated that the economic, commercial and financial blockade harms the Cuban people and
03:41constitutes a new act of war under U.S. policy.
03:45The Cuban Foreign Minister reiterated that Cuba is a sovereign nation with a peace-oriented policy and does not pose
03:51a threat to the security of Washington or any other country.
03:54In addition, Bruno Rodriguez asserted that recent executive orders increasing sanctions have effectively created an energy blockade causing hardship for
04:04the population and harming children, elderly people and pregnant women.
04:15The Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also thanked UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for calling for dialogue and diplomacy in
04:24the face of threats of U.S. military aggression against the largest of the Antilles.
04:29Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez highlighted the following on his ex-account.
04:34The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres reiterated that the sanctions imposed by the United States government against Cuba violate
04:42international law and have been overwhelmingly rejected by the majority of the international community at the U.N. General Assembly.
04:49We appreciate his call for dialogue and diplomacy and his opposition to any military aggression.
04:59And during the fourth national meeting of the Small Farmers Movement in Brazil, a message of solidarity was sent to
05:06peoples resistant imperialism, particularly in Cuba, Venezuela, Iran and Palestine.
05:11At the meeting held in Brazil on Tuesday, 1,200 farmers from 20 states discussed strategies to strengthen the production
05:18of healthy food across the country.
05:20During the event, Brazilian farmers paid special tribute to Commander Fidel Castro and presented Cuban doctors and daughter of Ernesto
05:28Che Guevara, Aleida Guevara,
05:30with 60 kilograms of medical supplies and agroecological products to express their support and solidarity for the Cuban people amid
05:37the strengthening of the economic blockade illegally imposed by the government of the United States.
05:44This event marks the start of a series of tributes in honor of the centenary of Fidel's birth in 2026.
05:58Also in Brazil, the 30th anniversary of the Black Night March was celebrated by hundreds of people gathering in the
06:04city of Sao Paulo.
06:06This demonstration marks the eve of the official abolition of slavery in the country.
06:11The gathering was centered around Liberty Square, a place that participants transformed into the heart of the historical and spiritual
06:18protests,
06:19Dressed in white and carrying torches, the protesters denounced the 1888 Golden Law as a formal transition that did not
06:25guarantee true redress or economic equality for the Afro-Brazilian population.
06:32This protest stands not only as an act of remembrance, but also as a protest against militarized police violence and
06:39the marginalization that still plagues the urban peripheries of the South American giant in the middle of the 21st century.
06:51We now have our first break.
06:52Stay with us.
07:12Welcome back.
07:13Colombian President Gustavo Petro confirmed the bombing of the National Liberation Army's ILN Central Command and said that it was
07:21carried out under an agreement with the Venezuelan governments.
07:25The military operation took place near the Catatumbo River.
07:29It was the government's third bombing of the armed group in the same region.
07:32The first was reported on February 4th and the second on April 19th.
07:36The Colombian President emphasized that organizations that maintain their decision to control illicit economies and reject agreements to dismantle them
07:44are not part of any peace agreement with the state.
07:47In this regard, Gustavo Petro reiterated that the ILN lost the nation's trust by systematically killing hundreds of unarmed farmers
07:53in Catatumbo.
07:58And in the first quarter of this year, Honduras' maquiladora industry, one of the country's most important, reported a 3
08:06% drop compared to last year.
08:08However, our business leaders maintain strong support for President Asfura, even though workers are already beginning to suffer from layoffs
08:15and the rising cost of living.
08:17Our correspondent Gerardo Torres has more.
08:22The factory is closing operations in Xoloma, north of Honduras, resulting in 1,700 job losses and a loss of
08:31400 million lempiras in wages.
08:33Honduras, which is highly dependent on these investments, is once again experiencing a decline in its economic development at the
08:40start of Nasdares Fura's administration.
08:43The inability of the elites to develop an economic project in the country has meant that we have chronically depended
08:50on foreign investment to supposedly generate massive employment.
08:55It is in this spirit that all kinds of tax benefit and labor exploitation regimes have been created, such as
09:02those that occurred in the banana era and that occur today in the maquilas sector.
09:06Nasdares Fura arrived at the presidential palace with strong support from the national business sector, which had opposed the government
09:13of Xiomara Castro that reviewed the relationship between the state and private enterprise, a relationship that was unfavorable to the
09:20population, which is largely impoverished, and had also proposed a tax reform to ensure that the wealthiest citizens paid more
09:28taxes.
09:29Nasdares Fura was, despite negative indicators, as Fura's support from the business community remained strong.
09:37Nasdares Fura's support from the business community remained strong.
09:39Nasdares Fura, In the first 100 days, what we feel is that there is certainty.
09:45Nasdares Fura, In the previous administration, we felt there was more uncertainty, and that doesn't attract much investment.
09:54But in these first 100 days, I see that people are more enthusiastic about investing in the
10:00country. Obviously, we know that this can't happen overnight. It requires a process of
10:08many years in which investors understand and believe that in Honduras there will always
10:14be legal security, there won't be radical changes, and there will be an attractive
10:21climate for investment with clear and permanent rules.
10:27When Xiomara Castro took office, Honduras' poverty rate was of 75 percent, and in four
10:33years she achieved a historic reduction of 11 percentage points. However, the rising cost
10:39of basic goods, increased inflation, mass layoff, and the implementation of a new hourly employment
10:46law that strips workers of their rights could trigger a new wave of impoverishment in the
10:51country.
10:52During her four years in office, Xiomara Castro's government dedicated approximately 40 billion
10:59lempiras to ensuring the national production of basic grains. We did not import corn or beans
11:05during her four years in government. What we are seeing now is a return to the neoliberal
11:11sectoral dismantling policies promoted by Juan Orlando Hernandez, which involved cutting all
11:17social programs with the objective of managing a stable macroeconomy based on the criteria of
11:22the International Monetary Fund, while withdrawing social assistance to the most vulnerable families.
11:31Despite all the support of business leaders to this government, the maquila industry has fallen
11:363 percent in the first quarter of this year in compared to the same period of last year.
11:41If local community economy isn't supported, if agriculture subsidies are cancelled, and if jobs
11:47continue to be lost, then all that was gained in the fight against poverty could be lost.
11:52Next, for Telesur in English from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Gerardo Torres Zelaya.
12:06The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that it intercepted and neutralized 286 Ukrainian
12:12drones early Wednesday morning. The operation span across 13 provinces and strategic regions stretching
12:17from the immediate border in Volkhorod and Kursk to more distant areas such as Yaroslav and Astrakhan.
12:25Russian authorities informed the threat had been completely neutralized and highlighted the
12:30Kremlin's growing military capability, especially in the redistribution and reorganization of its
12:36air defense. The attacks left two injured in southern Russia and damaged a factory in Yaroslav.
12:49Russian reports fires at Moscow's East Milovo Kremlin cultural and training complex caused by a short
12:55circuit due to faulty wiring, which affected about a thousand square meters. According to the
13:01capital's emergency service, the incident originated in a game room located next to the complex.
13:07They detailed that the flames reached the roof of the administrative building, spreading rapidly
13:12and covering the entire surface. More than 100 personnel and 30 units arrived at the scene
13:16to extinguish the fire and begin rescue efforts. So far, no casualties have been reported about the
13:22causes of the incident and the assessment of material damage remains under investigation.
13:33In the Netherlands, 12 employees at the Rabboot University Medical Center in Nijmegen were placed in quarantine
13:41for six weeks over potential hantavirus exposure involving a patient infected with the disease. The
13:47precautionary measures were taken after blood and urine samples from a patient who was aboard the virus-head
13:52cruise ship MV Hondius and tested positive were not handled with appropriate safety measures over the weekend.
13:59The patient at the center was among the three evacuated from Cape Verde to the Netherlands last week.
14:05The center acknowledged that due to the nature of the virus, the blood should have been processed according to a
14:11stricter procedure. The hantavirus outbreak on the ship has left three dead so far, while two more passengers were
14:17revealed to have tested positive on Monday, bringing the total of infected to seven.
14:29Let's now take our second break. Don't go away.
14:51Welcome back.
14:52U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in China to meet with the Chinese leader Xi Jinping and navigate issues
14:58including tech, trade, Taiwan and Iran. On Wednesday evening, Trump landed in the Chinese capital for a state
15:05visit to the country at the invitation of his counterpart, President Xi Jinping. Trump is visiting China from May 13th
15:11to the 15th.
15:11The two leaders will have an in-depth exchange of views on major issues concerning bilateral relations,
15:17world peace and development, according to China's foreign ministry.
15:20This is Trump's first official visit to China during his second term, a very expected diplomatic move
15:26as the world sees the Middle East conflict unfold with stagnated negotiations.
15:30In this end, Trump continues giving conflicting statements as before departing for China, he told reporters
15:35that he does not need China's assistance in ending the war on Iran.
16:02Precisely before arriving in China, U.S. President Donald Trump renewed his threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
16:11We have a lot of things to discuss.
16:14I wouldn't say Iran is one of them, to be honest with you, because we have Iran very much under
16:19control.
16:20We're either going to make a deal or they're going to be decimated.
16:23So one way or the other, we win.
16:29And Iran reaffirms its military readiness amid the stagnation of negotiations with the United States.
16:36Brigadier General Reza Talai, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Defense,
16:40reiterated on Tuesday that any threat or act of aggression against Iran would be met with an immediate response
16:46urged in the United States and Israel to respect and submit to the legitimate rights of the Iranian people.
16:51The official further emphasized that Iran has demonstrated its capability to defend its people both through diplomacy and on the
16:59battlefield,
16:59warning the U.S. that if negotiations failed, the Islamic military would be ready to respond to any aggression.
17:05These remarks come amid a deadlock in U.S.-Iran talks mediated by Pakistan following Washington's rejection of Iran's latest response
17:12to a proposal aimed at ending the war.
17:20And the Iranian government declared the extension of its defensive perimeter in the Strait of Hormuz
17:26and cautioned that it will not contain infringements of its territorial waters.
17:31The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy has stated that it is implementing a new plan that will cover the coast of
17:37Jask and Syria,
17:38which have been designated as strategic areas.
17:41The Iran indicated that it is monitoring movements in the region with precision and capability to prevent any aggression against
17:48its waters or interests.
17:50Also, Islamic forces revealed that a U.S. frigate was detected attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz,
17:55where the army fired warning shots that forced it to change course.
18:05And Israel continues its aggressions against Lebanon with attacks against vehicles traveling south of Beirut
18:11and air raids across southern towns of the country.
18:14According to reports by Lebanon's national news agency, since early Wednesday,
18:20two different attacks targeted cars traveling along a highway connecting Beirut to southern Lebanon in the G.J. area.
18:27Meanwhile, in the south of the country, Israel launched a new wave of attacks with air raids targeting several towns
18:33and a bombing operation in the town of Hiam, where the Zionist forces swept the town with heavy machine guns.
18:39This all came down after Israel issued forced evacuation orders for six Lebanese towns and villages.
18:46In this sense, Israel's relentless violation of the ceasefire agreement have killed more than a dozen people in the past
18:51few hours.
18:57An earlier Israel killed two Lebanese paramedics while they were conducting a rescue operation in a new targeted attack against
19:04healthcare personnel.
19:06Ahmad Noura and Hussein Jaber were performing their humanitarian duty and responding to an injury after an Israeli drone targeted
19:14a civilian in Nabatie.
19:15When an Israeli attack, they really struck the rescue site, killing all three men.
19:19This comes as Israel's systematic targeting of humanitarian and emergency workers in southern Lebanon has continued unabated,
19:27with further attacks in the Tire district.
19:29This brings the death toll to 380 Lebanese civilians, including 22 children, since the implementation of the ceasefire,
19:36from a total of nearly 2,900 people killed since the outbreak of the war on March 2.
19:47And the conflict in the Middle East has severely impacted Zimbabwe, causing a rise in operational transport costs,
19:54which affects vegetable exports to Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
19:59The geopolitical conflict between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States and Israel has generated a critical increase
20:05in air freight rates.
20:07This rise puts the stability of the horticultural industry at risk, just as the export season begins.
20:13The company Comenda, allied with some 5,000 small producers, is one of the main entities affected by the inflation
20:20of fuel and transport costs.
20:22Currently, the fruit and vegetable sector finds itself at a crossroads, either observe the losses from the increase in costs
20:29or compromise the expansion of a market that had achieved a historic performance the previous year.
20:37Well, like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
