00:00What are your expectations? Do you have high expectations for the summit? I think the expectation
00:04are quite managed. Of course there was high as well. But we have a few delays. But finally
00:10it happened. So President Trump arrived tonight. And but but but the significantly this is
00:15a his second visit in China in nine years and almost over near a decade. We haven't seen
00:23a U.S. presidential official visit. So this has got to get a lot of attention. I saw the
00:28building for example this building said Beijing welcomes you. So there is already the
00:32Beijing city in the evening illuminated. So I think people are giving a lot of high
00:38expectations because we are leaving a very turbulent war now. We have war going on.
00:43We have a lot of uncertainty. So I think the two largest economy and two strongest
00:49country leader meeting here in Beijing is really significant and project a lot of
00:54assurance and of their hands shaking shaking and and also their their pictures
01:00will assure a lot of public people around the world that to to to head the meat
01:06and an expectation are rising as well. President Trump oscillates between saying
01:11that he wants China to help when it comes to Iran saying that we don't need
01:15China's help. Do you think that's going to be a key element of what gets agreed and
01:19what is Beijing willing to do here. No I think that's very very significant. I would think
01:24that will probably a big expectation from from President Trump because you know we
01:29can see the war is still going on. The Hormuz Street is still closed and the US is
01:35really getting the mass of that kind of situation and then really eager to get out.
01:39But China you know actually the last two months China enforcement from Mr. Wang Yi has
01:44phoned over 30 counterparts in Gulf countries in Iran all the European Security Council members and
01:51European Union and Russia whatever. So that's a record number of foreign ministers he
01:56phoned in two months and then he was we had just Iranian foreign minister come to
02:00Beijing last last week. So I think the message is very clear from China you know the
02:04war should not be continued and it should get engaged in the dialogue and also
02:08Hormuz Street should be open. So I think that's really a great message China can give but
02:12given China is the largest trading partner of Gulf countries at 90 percent Iranian
02:17petroleum is bought by China. China has a huge influence in this respect. So I think
02:22by by having President Trump President Xi coming together any joint statement or any
02:27consensus they can have would have a very good impact on this Iranian U.S. conflict. But
02:34furthermore I think both Iranian and U.S. doesn't want to continue. They want to get
02:37out of this. They just need a ladder to gracefully come down and China provide exactly that
02:42that platform for them to step down. What will Beijing want in response. Do you think
02:47anything will change when it comes to Taiwan. Well I think that's probably one of the
02:52things China China is keeping that as a core interest of the core interest because as we
02:58can see you know President Trump wants a larger peace. He said in his inaugural speech last year
03:03he wants to be the president of the peace. So he's he's mediating Russian war Ukraine. He really
03:08wants to get out of this war in Iran and Middle East. So so they will need China really to
03:16come
03:16in to to to to support probably to get out of this this this walking up. But but but for
03:22China absolutely the core straight peace is so important for China too. You know if you
03:27as all the previous government said OK they do not support Taiwan independence. Why not President
03:33Trump can cannot say we're against power independence or we support the peace of
03:38unification of China. So Trump is seeking a larger peace a look globally and China is
03:44really looking at the regional peace. So I'm sure there will be some common language if
03:47they all want peace they can help each other. So I would think this this visit by Trump is
03:53really important that he has actually haven't said anything about Taiwan in the past. So I think
04:01he's a more pragmatic. He's more focused now on the Western Hemisphere. So why not give
04:06some space you know to relax in this part of the world and let China and Taiwan peacefully united.
04:13Will pragmatism prevail when it comes to trade and tariffs that almost seems to be you know a
04:17secondary priority. But we know it's important for Beijing. Will they be able to get access when it
04:22comes to AI and chip those conversations. Well I'm sure AI is a big topic. I think AI you know
04:28it's we are in uncharted territory now. AI being China US two largest AI superpower. They have to
04:34really you know somewhat compare notes and get some governance mechanism set up. Otherwise it's
04:39going to be run wild and then we could be wiped out by AI you know human beings. But I
04:44think on a trade
04:44side you know you're going to they're going to establish probably a board of investment board of trade
04:49which is great. China can buy more. All the all the you know be you know be for you know
04:55Boeing and and
04:57and then also all the all the good stuff from U.S. you know and and then of course U
05:04.S. can also
05:06you know buy from China too. You know there's many things that the China so they will supply. And so
05:12I think
05:13that that that that regular mechanism set up is so important. But also trade you know in addition to
05:19the trade that the investment. China is interested to invest in the U.S. A lot of companies interested
05:23to invest. And then if we say it was non-sensitive those really what needed in the U.S. helping
05:28the
05:28manufacturing helping the employment in the U.S. Why not. So I think President Trump is very pragmatic.
05:35He welcomed Chinese investment. And I think that will be really helping U.S. and China relations.
05:41And that's what Japanese did in the 80s and 90s when they had a tense relation with U.S.
05:45So I think those trade issues would be great. But in addition to that I think there's no handful there
05:49too like fentanyl. There's 10 percent added by President Trump on the fentanyl. But recently
05:54both China and the U.S. has punished some fentanyl you know illegal producers and things like that.
06:02So I think you know time has come that we drop this 10 percent on fentanyl between the trade of
06:07China
06:07and U.S. China has over the last few years really tried to position itself as the the alternative when
06:14it comes to what it calls U.S. hegemony and the sort of global liberal democracy. Do you think Beijing
06:21and presidency have benefited from this war. No I think this kind of narrative is is not really helpful
06:28now because in the past there was talk about you know like by the year I talk about autocracy versus
06:32democracy and things like that. But now we found out it's different. China is a hybrid. You know
06:37they had the meritocracy. They had the trilateral structure of the economy of private sector. So
06:44e multinational foreign companies. So it's really a you know a hybrid of different governance models
06:52and economic structure. So I think you know let's really look at performance. So if a performance is
06:58is really deliverable and China become the largest green power country in the world lifted 800 million
07:05people out of poverty that should be given a lot of credit. So so I think you know China doesn't
07:10want
07:10to seek hegemony or global dominance because we don't have any soldiers anywhere. U.S. have several hundred
07:16military base around the world. China doesn't really have one. And so so I think the the culture of China
07:22you have to grow four or five crops a year. You basically have to stay in this land. You can't
07:27go anywhere.
07:27You can't go anywhere. And Confucius said if your parents are alive don't don't travel far away.
07:32So I think that kind of culture made hard-working Chinese really very hard on this island. Yeah on
07:38this on this land land.
