00:00I watched a little bit of a sit down with you and Billy Corrigan talking about your book and Billy's
00:05a great interviewer. Wonderful interviewer.
00:08Yeah, it was the first time he and my mentor and I ever sat down and talked about our history
00:13of my life in music and his role in it. It was beautiful.
00:16You tell a great story that's in the book about the first time you guys met and there was a
00:21beer bottle incident.
00:22And someone who you were acquaintances with threw the bottle at Billy because they thought he was showboating on stage
00:28as sort of being too dramatic.
00:30But it led to the connection that ended up changing your life.
00:34Yeah, so it's the beer bottle that changed my life, which I also refer to sometimes as the Cinderella slipper
00:40because I am like a grunge Cinderella.
00:43In the book, I really describe how all these tiny little things happen to me getting like the bell of
00:48the ball backstage pass.
00:50But it started with the beer bottle thrown at at that time, a band from Chicago that nobody knew playing
00:56for one dollar in a club in front of 25 people.
00:59And I was the ticket girl. So I and then my friend threw a bottle.
01:02And I also in my fable of my life, I say the moral of the story is be polite is
01:06I went and apologized on behalf of Montreal to what I thought was one of the coolest bands I had
01:12seen because they had more refined grandiosity than a lot of like the punk.
01:17Even Nirvana at that time in 91 was not. So I had been drawn by the glossy grandiosity, whereas my
01:25friend who was more punk was like, these guys, who do they think they are playing like an arena?
01:29They're playing a punk club. So I went, hello, I'm Melissa. I'd like to apologize on behalf of Montreal, Canada,
01:34and I will follow you until the end of the world as your biggest fan.
01:37And I was their first fan, according to Billy. And so there we were. And then that's how we made
01:42friends.
01:43And then later, my local band opened up for him on the Siamese Dream Tour, thanks to a fan letter
01:48that I wrote years later.
01:50P, remember me, the girl at the beer bottle. I finally have a band. We'd love to open up for
01:54you during the Siamese Dream Tour.
01:55And he got the letter at the P.O. Box at Virgin Records.
