00:00you've got mail all the stories you need to know about the world of atlanta sports
00:03in bite size brought to you by window comfort on sports radio 92.9 the game the thing you need
00:10to
00:10know about this braves team is that they've been able to overcome injuries unlike any other team
00:16this season think about the fact that we have four starting pitchers who were not with the team
00:22to start the season because of injuries no problem him not with the team to start because
00:28of injuries no problem mike's talking about sean murphy and we joke but not really it feels like
00:33he's hurt every year and now he's gonna go to the il he's got a finger issue guys but the
00:39fact of the
00:39matter is the way that alex has built this team they're able to withstand injuries because you
00:44have versatility it's dubon i need you tonight mike it's guys like that that all of a sudden have
00:52stepped up and more importantly are producing that has allowed this offense to not take a step back
00:57even when acuna who's injured right and it's not just at the plate you think about just this last
01:02series this last road trip you had dubon make an unbelievable play in the outfield we talked about
01:05eli white that's right we didn't mention yesterday jarvis's unbelievable dive uh to stop a texas leaguer
01:10from becoming a hit as he lays out at dodger stadium so everybody's contributing we've already spent time
01:15on you know dominic smith uh you know dubon is a guy that as we said to tony yeah you
01:20still you still
01:21hopefully we'll go get more bats if we can maybe he tries to pull off something like he did in
01:2421 when
01:25again nobody even knew who solaire was but certainly you feel good about dubon who's just
01:30been able to you know come up big and clutch at the plate at the field on the field i
01:34should say
01:34now you can put him in the outfield when you when uh yastrzemski comes up and again yaz is kind
01:39of
01:39what he is you know we said he was a platoon guy and you know the splits kind of tell
01:43it like it is
01:44he just you know he just cannot hit against left-handed pitching so okay but uh they'll be able to
01:48go do
01:48some more things and have the wherewithal from management to say do it do it this year which they don't
01:54necessarily always do i don't think but alex will never cop to that all right uh as we talk about
01:58why you should be feeling really good about this team and tonight we host the cubs it's grant homes
02:02on the hill uh colin ray goes for the cubs um the sean murphy injury guys is a fractured middle
02:07fingered
02:08we we were told uh as they came back from la we'd find out more we're finding out more he
02:12is now on the
02:1310-day il backdated to may 11th so they signed sandy leon to a major league contract and uh have
02:21made some
02:21roster moves but look murph is coming back but to mike's point that's been kind of the the mo for
02:27him and it's also why i think last year we wanted to see more drake right that's why we were
02:31talking
02:32about it give him a give an opportunity i felt you felt uh you still probably had you left maybe
02:3650 60
02:36at bats you know off the table with drake for sometimes he should have been still been out
02:40there but that's okay uh now it's walt weiss as we said to tony gwynn jr walt weiss anytime you
02:45know
02:45he moves the lineup and juggles moves things around things seem to be paying off if austin riley continues to
02:49start to come out of it right then everything's really rolling and you mentioned acuna you know
02:54and just getting him you know getting him doing this again with without it you've got the best
03:00record of it without arguably your most talented player right right so that there's a lot of reasons
03:06why you should be like okay again we haven't even seen the best of this no and that's the and
03:12the
03:12pitching like i mean i you and i were you were off today on the on the pre-show dayday
03:16and i were
03:16talking about it even you know with you know it's grant homes you know kind of having to be
03:20careful with the arm because he probably should have had tommy john in the offseason you still
03:24want five of his last six starts you know even when he's not that effective you find that when
03:27that goes back to the bullpen that's a great point oh and let me mention oh by the way since
03:31since i'm not being pragmatic matt olsen's having an mvp season yep i mean we could go on and on
03:37guys
03:37we got multiple all-stars potentially on this team that should be all-stars if things continue to go the
03:41way they are with ozzy and harris and drake stop yeah complaining and and worrying about what this
03:48team may do when are they going to choke it away or when are they enjoy where we're at and
03:52guess
03:52what mike if come july things have come back down to earth a little bit i still think the team
03:58is
03:58going to be talented enough to still be in the mix yeah i mean we talked earlier at the phillies
04:02and
04:02that's one thing look snicker was on with the steakhouse a few weeks ago and he said you know
04:05you're kind of echoing what you're not not to throw cold water on it but there's two parts of the
04:08season and you're trying to find what you've got early in the season and certainly by the way
04:12austin riley bent like over 290 for the month like 294 for this month now but yeah the braves are
04:18in a
04:18really good spot but phillies ever since you know don madley took over they needed a shot rob thompson
04:23it wasn't working they won seven of their last 10 and uh you know they've got an older team we
04:27were
04:28all writing them off a few weeks ago but look they're coming around the mets dead on arrival there's
04:32nothing going on the mets are talking about bringing up all their guys from double a now and getting all
04:36their rookie phenoms in the mix yeah this season is a wash for them um it's some at some point
04:42you
04:43get to a point in the season where it's too much to overcome and two months into the season that's
04:48kind of where the mets are they're looking at this and going is this too much to overcome and we
04:52talked
04:52about it guys we did this against the mets a few years ago 2020 when you when you catch a
04:57team from
04:5710 games it takes a lot right so we're already at that point with those guys and again um you
05:05can
05:05only control what you control the cubs are very good i'm going to tell you more about the cubs uh
05:09coming up because this is a really good team man and it's it's beyond the record it's the way that
05:13they've been constructed the lineup and i'll tell you this dansby is a big deal to them dansby swanson
05:19is a big deal and he kind of started this whole rebuild restructure thing for the cubs when that
05:24decision was made to not retain his services here we'll get into that later
