00:00So the Braves did beat the Cubs 5-2.
00:02Before the game, we did learn that Sean Murphy is on the IL,
00:05won't return for at least eight weeks, has a fractured finger.
00:08Grant Holmes pitched for four innings, one hit, two runs, four walks,
00:11five strikeouts.
00:12Didier Fuentes, Dylan Lee, Rysel Iglesias didn't allow any runs.
00:16And look, the offense was great.
00:18Austin Riley, you just heard Yaz get his home run.
00:20Dom Smith was 4-4.
00:23But we did have two pickoffs, Michael Harris and Matt Olsen.
00:27And that makes 10 for the season the most in the MLB.
00:31Here's Walt Weiss talking about this new pattern.
00:34You know, to be honest, it's gotten to the point where, you know,
00:39we're going to make an adjustment there.
00:40You know, it's, look, I mean, I don't think, you know, it's costing us games.
00:47But, you know, it just shouldn't happen at this rate, you know.
00:51And I know we're trying to do some things different and that type of thing.
00:54And the guys are working their butts off trying to be really good at it.
00:59And Antoine has been awesome.
01:03And he's got passion.
01:05He's accountable.
01:06So, you know, that's just something we got to clean up.
01:10We've had this argument for years, Mike and myself.
01:13This is not how this team is built.
01:15It's still a lot of bases.
01:17And you're forcing it in there.
01:20And it's just not who you are.
01:22And, you know, you can play a little bit of small ball,
01:25but you're not a team that runs well.
01:26You're just not.
01:27The best player on your team as far as still on bases is not that guy anymore.
01:33And he's been the one that's been picked off the most.
01:35And I think it's just because it's not who it is.
01:38So I love the aggressiveness on the base pads,
01:42but eventually not everyone is going to be hitting lights out.
01:47And it is going to cost you a game.
01:49And I love that Walt Weiss is like, you know what?
01:52It's at the point now.
01:53Got to make some changes.
01:54Because you're trying to be something you're not.
01:58Yeah, and I don't know.
02:00You know, these are pick-offs.
02:02These are not caught stealings.
02:04Yeah, but why are you getting picked off?
02:05Because you're getting an extra little bit of a lead, though.
02:08I would love to know the inside story on what Antoine Richardson is actually
02:11trying to get these guys to do.
02:13And I asked Grant about it last Friday,
02:15and he mentioned that Walt Weiss, he asked Walt Weiss about it last week.
02:18And he was like, hey, we're trying some new things,
02:20trying to incorporate some of what Antoine does, this, that, and the other.
02:24Okay, what is it?
02:25Because obviously they've got to tell.
02:26The other teams seem to have a tell on whatever it is that we've got going on.
02:29And Antoine Richardson was with the Mets last year.
02:32I know that there was a big uptick in the second half of the year with,
02:35I think it was Soto.
02:38With them, and he finally started getting it down.
02:40But it seems like whatever he's preaching or teaching,
02:43the rest of the Major League Baseball seems to be onto it.
02:47Because it's happening at a pretty unsustainable clip.
02:50And, Allie, if it was, you know,
02:53we got on a run a couple weeks ago about it,
02:55and it's clear it's not just Ronnie, right?
02:59It's not just a him problem.
03:00This is something that they're doing.
03:02And I think they're getting too aggressive with their leads.
03:06Or maybe Mike's right.
03:07Maybe there is a tell that I don't, you know, that certain guys are doing.
03:12But you've got to change it because it is going to cost you a game or two eventually.
03:16The face that Michael Harris made when he got picked off,
03:19like he said it was just like, whoops.
03:21Like he just looked like in disbelief that it happened to him.
03:25But I don't think there's anything wrong in trying to evolve a little bit and try new things.
03:31But clearly, it's just not working right now.
03:33So it's time for course correction.
03:35I love the fact that they're trying to evolve.
03:39I'm with you.
03:40There's nothing wrong with it.
03:41I think you're spot on.
03:43It's a great point.
03:44Problem is, it's not who you are.
03:47And you can't force things.
03:49You are who you are.
03:51And the more you understand it and play into those things, I think the better it is.
03:56So I don't know what they do or I don't know what tweak there is.
03:59I'm not, I mean, I'm not that guy.
04:03I can't tell you.
04:04But whatever it is, they've got to make an adjustment.
04:06Well, and again, we've had this back and forth.
04:08And I'll push back a little bit.
04:10I mean, it's not who you are.
04:11You're right.
04:11It's not who you were last year.
04:12It's not who you were the year before.
04:15But when Ronnie was winning the MVP and you were, you know, playing at an insane clip
04:19offensively, he also stole 70 bases and was elite at doing that.
04:24So I think that maybe it's not what you are, but I don't mind the fact that that's the
04:28direction they're trying to push.
04:29And I've been calling for it.
04:30I mean, it's, you look at it and I think you're right.
04:34It's like, eventually it's going to lose you a game.
04:36But if they can catch on to whatever is being coached and they can actually make themselves
04:40the speed of your team, you can make the argument the other way around that eventually this
04:44will help them win games if you're stealing second and you're coming home on a single
04:47and some of the later innings later in the year.
04:50Yeah.
04:50Here's the problem.
04:51He stole 70 bases.
04:53Okay.
04:54What was the next?
04:55What was the next closest?
04:57I bet you it was like seven or eight steals.
05:00It would have been Harris that year, even though he was a little dinged up.
05:05I'd say he was in the teens, if I had to guess.
05:06And guess what?
05:09He ain't that player anymore.
05:11He's, that was an ACL ago for Ronald Acuna with a 70 bases.
05:16I don't think he's doing that anymore.
05:17I'm going to find out the stat eventually for the next, for the next, you got it?
05:22I got it.
05:23So next highest was Michael Harris with 20.
05:2620.
05:26Okay.
05:27So they've sold probably a hundred bases that year total and 70 of them and 90 of them were
05:33from two guys.
05:34Not who you are.
05:35Stole 132.
05:3732.
05:37By the way, 132.
05:38All right.
05:39So 32 of them were from, excuse me, 90 of that were from those two and the next 32.
05:45This is not how you are.
05:4640, I guess.
05:47It's not how you are.
05:48I just don't, I think you need to figure it out.
05:51I mean, obviously there are, but just play into your strengths.
05:54That's all.
05:55I'm a big believer in that.
05:57Well, and Walt Weiss has done so much right with this team.
06:00I think this is just a little blip.
06:02He acknowledges it, took accountability and is looking to change it.
06:05Where do you think his approval rating is with the fan base at this point?
06:08Is it a hundred percent?
06:09Are we all just in love with Walt Weiss at this point?
06:11It should be.
06:12Well, yeah, it should be.
06:15I am.
06:15With me, it is.
06:17Yeah.
06:17I know that there's some, you know, Twitter manager that's criticized a couple moves,
06:25not totally happy, but I just feel like every step he does a good job of thinking outside
06:32the box and figuring out things.
06:36Like going back to this thing, like I talked about earlier, Fuentes out of the bullpen,
06:39much like Max Freed was early in his career, where for whatever reason, it helped him being
06:45out of the bullpen, he was so much better at the bullpen.
06:47I love that type of thought process.
06:50Let me throw that question right back at y'all, though.
06:53Who has a higher rating right now, Hilmer or Alex Anthopoulos?
06:56I don't know.
06:57I think Walt Weiss at this point.
06:59I still think of people who are craving a little bit more action in the offseason from Alex.
07:05And I think they're justified because of the starting.
07:08Look, the starting pitching has been phenomenal.
07:13However, you're bringing this guy up and starting.
07:16That guy's going out there to the pen.
07:18And then, oh, now he's back in the rotation.
07:20There's been a, the rotation has been good, but it's also been handled perfectly as well.
07:28I feel like, I give Walt that credit.
07:31I think Alex is a part of those conversations.
07:33I do.
07:34But imagine if he had, if we had, you know, had made another arm.
07:38Now, in the hindsight, some of the, and I think Grant might have made this point on Twitter the other
07:42day.
07:42Some of those guys that are, or maybe CJ Nikowski, I don't know, I'll get them all confused.
07:46But some of those big arms that everybody wanted that were, hey, we got to get this guy, haven't panned
07:52out for the money either.
07:55So, it, you can make that, you can make the argument if you want to be the devil's advocate.
08:00But I think Ali's on his own.
08:02I think some of those people want more.
08:03They just wanted to see a little bit more going on.
08:05I do want to mention that I think Truist did the tributes to Bobby Cox and Ted Turner perfectly last
08:10night.
08:10With 40,000 people at Truist, it is nearly impossible to get a moment of silence.
08:15But it was completely silent when they had that moment.
08:20So, kudos to anyone that went to the game, partook in that.
08:22Because I understand there's a lot going on at that stadium.
08:25I agree.
08:26Good stuff.
08:27The second game of this series is tonight.
08:30It's J.R. Ritchie taking on Shota Emanaga.
