Tensions are rising once again along the Israel-Lebanon border after an Israeli soldier was killed during combat operations near southern Lebanon. Despite an April ceasefire agreement, Israel and Hezbollah continue exchanging fire as Israeli airstrikes intensify near Beirut and evacuation warnings spread across Lebanese towns. Lebanon is now urging the United States to pressure Israel to stop the attacks, while fears grow that the fragile truce could collapse into a wider regional war.

00:20Another Israeli soldier has been killed near the Lebanon border,
00:24even as a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah remains officially in place.
00:31The latest death is now intensifying fears that the fragile truce is rapidly collapsing,
00:37with fresh strikes, evacuation warnings, and growing diplomatic pressure across the region.
00:43According to the Israeli military,
00:46Sergeant Major Alexander Glavaniev, aged 47,
00:49was killed during combat operations near the Israel-Lebanon border on Sunday.
00:54His death brings Israel's military losses to 18 soldiers since fighting with Hezbollah escalated in early March 2026.
01:03One Israeli civilian contractor has also been killed during the conflict.
01:08But despite the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on April 17, fighting has not stopped.
01:15Israel and Hezbollah continue exchanging fire across southern Lebanon,
01:19while Israeli airstrikes are reportedly reaching deeper into Lebanese territory.
01:25Over the weekend, some of the heaviest strikes since the truce were reported,
01:29including attacks reaching within 20 kilometers of Beirut.
01:34Lebanese authorities now say the overall death toll from Israeli strikes since March 2 has risen to 2,869 people.
01:43And notably, dozens of those deaths reportedly happened after the ceasefire officially began.
01:50As tensions rise, Lebanon's leadership is now urging direct American intervention.
01:56Lebanese President Joseph Ahn and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam separately met U.S. Ambassador Michelle Issa in Beirut,
02:04asking Washington to pressure Israel into stopping what they called ongoing violations of the ceasefire.
02:11Salam specifically called for efforts to halt continued attacks, warning that the truce risks falling apart completely if strikes continue.
02:21Meanwhile, Israel's military issued fresh evacuation warnings for nine Lebanese towns on Monday,
02:27including areas in southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa region.
02:31Those warnings suggest that more military operations could be imminent.
02:36All this comes ahead of a new round of direct talks between Lebanese and Israeli representatives scheduled in Washington later
02:43this week.
02:45Those meetings are expected to focus on maintaining the ceasefire, preventing further escalation, and avoiding a wider regional conflict.
02:53But on the ground, the reality appears very different.
02:57Despite diplomatic talks and international mediation, rockets, airstrikes, and military operations are continuing almost daily.
03:06And with casualties rising on both sides, concerns are growing that the Israel-Hezbollah conflict may once again spiral into
03:14a much larger war.
