00:00I'm Attorney General James Uthmeyer.
00:02Since I took office a little over a year ago, we've made significant gains on reclaiming
00:07the Second Amendment rights of Floridians.
00:09And we are just getting started.
00:12For instance, we asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Florida's firearm purchase ban
00:17on adults who are old enough to join the military.
00:21We also brought back open carry for the first time in nearly 40 years.
00:26And today, we are suing the City of Jacksonville for knowingly maintaining an illegal gun registry
00:33in violation of Florida law.
00:36In July 2023, after Mayor Deegan took office, Jacksonville City Management approved and implemented
00:43a logbook, a gun registry that required security officers to screen visitors and record the
00:49visitor's name, age, state-issued ID number, and the weapon type of anyone found to be
00:55carrying a firearm.
00:57Jacksonville continued this practice until April 2025, when an individual attempted to
01:02enter a city building while legally carrying a firearm.
01:06The individual was unlawfully denied entry by security officers on duty when he would not
01:11provide the requested information.
01:13Florida law prohibits government entities from keeping a registry of privately owned firearms
01:19or their owners.
01:21The City's logbooks, maintained with City Management's knowledge and approval, constitute such a registry.
01:29We are requesting judgment against the City of Jacksonville for $5 million, as provided
01:35by law, and any other relief the Court deems appropriate.
01:38The Second Amendment is not a second-class right, and we will use all power of this office to
01:44protect the rights of Floridians.
