00:00future connections to Japanese animation, SFX, and kaiju movie director Hideaki Anno.
00:081983 techno-thriller War Games starred Matthew Broderick, who was later in the Roland Emmerich
00:17American version of Godzilla in 1998. Hideaki Anno directed the 2016 kaiju film Shin Godzilla.
00:28Photography-wise, there are many similarities in the movies and TV series Anno was involved with
00:36and what you can see in War Games. I'll give a few examples. The Whopper computer, perhaps similar to
00:43the Magi computer in Evangelion. Anno depicts elaborate command centers in his works. The air
00:52defense facility versus the nerve operations center in Ava. There's some shots of the ballistic
01:02missile rocket engines in War Games. Wings of the ONME's Rural Space Force in 87. The production
01:10traveled to America and towards some NASA facilities as well as studied photos and stock footage of some
01:19of the American and Soviet space rockets from the 60s. In War Games at about one hour, 17 minutes,
01:28David and Jennifer meet up with Professor Falcon. He's flying an RC, a model of a winged dinosaur. I
01:36believe this is a pterodactyl or a pterodon. This reminded me of another memorable image in an
01:45Anno anime. Episode 19 of the Nadia TV series. It's ran between 1990 and 1991. You see this in about
01:55nine minutes, 36 seconds. And Jean Nadia and Captain Nemo are going around the underground base in
02:04Antarctica where the Nautilus is docked. There are many animals frozen in ice here. They appear to be dinosaurs.
