00:00A local rescuer heard someone dumped this very pregnant dog just outside of town.
00:05She looked like she could give birth at any moment.
00:08And Audrey wasn't going to let her have her puppies alone.
00:12I received some calls about this pregnant dog who was left behind by her previous owners.
00:18I found her pretty quickly, but catching her felt nearly impossible.
00:26Any time I would get closer, she would immediately disappear.
00:30I started to get really worried. If I didn't catch her, she was going to have her puppies in the
00:36woods
00:36and that they wouldn't survive through the cold. So I continued to track her.
00:40Does mama want some treats?
00:43But Audrey didn't just start rescuing today.
00:45She's been doing it for over five years and has saved more than 1,000 dogs along the way.
00:52I started rescuing dogs about five years ago when I moved to the area.
00:57All these stray dogs were just in the roads. They were tied up. They were super skinny.
01:05And where I lived at, it was known as a dropping off spot for dogs that were no longer wanted.
01:11I started digging around and going down a rabbit hole trying to figure out why is it like this here?
01:18Why don't they have animal control?
01:20And the deeper I dug, the more mad I got.
01:23I'm frustrated because people don't stay and neuter.
01:27So with being an animal lover and having a big heart, I started to take in those dogs and find
01:33them homes.
01:35When I prioritize, I think about which dogs are at the highest risk of dying or suffering.
01:43You're a cutie.
01:44Because they were huge.
01:47Oh, you little stinker.
01:52As Audrey became more well-known in her community, the calls kept coming in.
01:56And before long, she was rescuing multiple dogs a day.
02:00That is when she decided to take the next big step.
02:03Fast forward one year, I started my nonprofit.
02:09Thank you guys so much for your donations.
02:12I'm sitting in our new rescue van.
02:16We are getting ready to go rescue 40 animals.
02:19You guys, this is such a surreal moment for me.
02:24I cannot believe this.
02:26Yay!
02:28Lux Rescue is pulling these dogs out of their horrible situations where they're dying and suffering.
02:36I'm hungry.
02:38I get around 100 messages a day from fosters, from people in the community needing help.
02:47We deal with, on average, two new hoarding cases every week.
02:52So there might be dogs with mange.
02:54There might be puppies living underneath the shed.
02:58It's hard and it will wear you down over time.
03:02But seeing the life come back to these dogs, you know, it's just amazing what a little bit of love
03:10can do.
03:11What's going on?
03:14Just two short years.
03:16We have had so much success.
03:19Yay!
03:19Look at the babies!
03:26I caught her.
03:29I think this is a good one.
03:31What?
03:32Oh my god.
03:34This mama and her puppies are just one happy ending.
03:38There are countless more, all because of Audrey.
03:44I do believe that everything I've done in my life up until this point has led me here.
03:51Growing up, I loved animals.
03:54Oh my goodness.
03:55I wanted to be a vet.
03:56I loved being around them.
03:59Dogs can never be an unconditional love.
04:03One of the biggest things for me is fighting for change in our local community with our local government.
04:10Because there are no local shelters, Audrey has essentially become animal control for her community.
04:16She is truly the only person doing this kind of work in her area, and every donation makes a difference.
04:23Visit LuxRescue.com to support Audrey's mission to save every last dog in her community.
04:29I'm 182 thank you.
04:41You
