00:00Should you be emulsifying your cleanser and shampoo? According to TikTok, it makes for a
00:04deeper, better cleanse. Skincare enthusiast James Bach says that to emulsify, massage the cleanser
00:09into wet hands for at least 15 seconds so it creates a thick foam. James suggests cleansing
00:14for at least a minute. Dermatologist Dr. Shireen Idris also recently went viral on TikTok with
00:19this emulsifying cleansing method, which she says breaks up oil on skin. When it comes to hair,
00:24TikToker Abby Young, also a dracologist in training, says that emulsifying your shampoo
00:28in your hands will help it spread and cleanse evenly so your hair won't get greasy as fast.
00:33I asked a derm who said that this only works with foaming products. Foaming cleansers, for example,
00:38are better for those with oily and acne prone skin. There's no evidence that emulsifying makes a
00:43difference, but if it makes cleansing more enjoyable, go for it. I haven't noticed much
00:47difference in my hair while doing this, but emulsifying makes my cleanser feel velvety and
00:52cushiony on the skin and my face feels a lot cleaner.
