00:02Emergency crews arrived at a unit here on Todd Street in Warrawong at about 9 p.m. last night.
00:07They found a 25-year-old man and he had burns to his face, chest, neck and arms.
00:13The man was treated by nearby residents and paramedics before he was flown to a Sydney hospital.
00:18Police have been investigating and this morning confirmed the alleged perpetrator forced entry into the unit,
00:24doused the victim in petrol and set him alight before fleeing the scene.
00:28Several triple zero calls were made after what was obviously quite a confronting scene here.
00:33Detective Chief Inspector Brad Ainsworth said the scene was very violent and very confronting
00:39and the man has 50% burns to his body.
00:42The individual, I would say, was targeted.
00:45For what reason, I don't know.
00:47That's part of our investigation.
00:48But obviously for a deliberate brazen act like that, well, he had a beef with the man, let's say that.
00:55He was airlifted last night to Royal North Shore.
00:58He was in a critical condition last night, but now it's serious but stable.
01:03We're waiting until he can talk to us and hopefully then he will have some valuable information
01:09that will lead us to the identification and potentially arrest of the offender.
01:13Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to come forward
01:17and call local police or Crimestoppers.
01:19time stoppers.
