There are new questions around how many trees will need to be cut down to make way for upgrades to the North Adelaide golf course, with the opposition today presenting figures that indicate thousands of trees are in the firing line. The government says their numbers are inflated but can't put their own figure on how many will need to go.

00:09government plans to redevelop the North Adelaide golf course to host Live Golf from 2028.
00:15I think the people of Adelaide, the electorate of Adelaide, will be absolutely outraged when
00:21they realise how many trees have to go to accommodate this.
00:25Frank Pangello and Opposition Leader Vincent Tarzia calling for clarity and quoting an
00:30international golf course designer who predicts more than 5,000 parklands trees are on the
00:35chopping block.
00:36Be upfront and honest with the people of South Australia and release these full costings
00:42and these full designs.
00:43The government says the number will be smaller, but the Premier admitting the exact figure isn't
00:49known yet.
00:50We've made clear that there will be some trees that need to go, but there is a lot
00:55of work going into place to make sure that that number is as small as possible.
00:59This number is not based on any science, any fact, and if they're wrong, they both should
01:04quit.
01:05Controversial laws passed by State Parliament earlier this year allow the government to
01:09take control of the golf course to push ahead with the upgrade plans and override the Adelaide
01:14City Council.
01:15There was concern today too from Kaurna elder Tim Aegis, who is worried the soil excavation
01:21will uncover Aboriginal remains and says a consultation process hasn't been up to scratch.
01:27Every time they run one of those protocols, they don't hear what we have to say anyways.
01:33So people wonder, well why go, because they don't listen.
01:36The government says any issues will be dealt with in accordance with the Aboriginal Heritage
01:40Act.
